Loved our stay at the Mango Moon!! Donna, the owner, took care of us just like a friend would ensuring we had everything we needed from food, to fun tours, to nights out. We were 3 friends and were lucky to stay in the Gecko Suite which had two rooms with 2 single beds and one king with a private balcony overlooking the stunning ocean views in a tranquil setting. The place has a cozy charming feel since it only has 9 rooms providing the perfect balance of costa rican local vibes with comforts of a nice hotel. The food is really tasty (get the fish tacos!), and you can also go up the street to Emilios for lunch or Cafe Milagro for dinner. Its a steep 20 min walk downhill to the beach, so having a car enabled us to drive around easily as well as explore regional excursions like the Nauyuca Waterfalls (45 min drive). Def go Sport Fishing with Pez Rey!! All in all the place is prefectly cozy, clean, quiet and feels like home with Donna right there to help with anything at any time like tours, food, entertainment, etc.

Room Tip: Gecko Suite was on the top floor with a "privatized" balcony with a stunning view of the o...

Mango Moon is as advertised: an intimate boutique hotel. Our overall experience was very good, a 4 night-stay for a family of 4 in the Gecko Suite. While all of the comments from other reviews accurately note nuisances (thin walls, awkward balcony entrances, steep beach access, etc), we found these items to all be marginal concerns. We recommend Mango Moon.
+ Comfortable setting with easy walking access to most places, beautiful view
+ Donna is very attentive to her guests; she was constantly there, waiting tables, providing advice, etc
+ The Gecko Suite bedrooms and balcony were perfect for a family with two children
+ Ease of meals was notable; we liked having the option to just stay and eat when we chose
+ Quick cab to the beach and the park
+ Monkeys were great, right outside our room; noisy at 4am but we were there to see them!
+ No mosquitos
- The kids LOVED Gracie (cat) and Manga (dog), and my wife didn't suffer from her usual cat allergies, BUT I'm not a fan of having pets roam the dining area
- The pool was nice, BUT the bevy of red and orange ants made it less appealing; we didn't come to see them!
- Bathroom was tiny and the toilet paper receptable wholly inadequate; needs to be larger and with a lid which stays closed and you don't have to touch
- The safe was odd; a big tin box which you could easily move; we put ours in the refrigerator!
- The concrete structure prevents wireless access beyond the common area, but it doesn't block the music or voices from other rooms; neither was a big problem, but I can easily see how the evening music could be annoying

Room Tip: The room on the far right top floor (when looking up from the swimming pool) is probably the best if...

We stayed at Mango Moon for 4 nights at the end of our Costa Rica vacation. We were very spoiled by phenomenal service in our 2 earlier hotels, so we were a bit fussier than if we'd started here. The hotel is in a beautiful jungle like setting with gorgeous ocean views. The rooms are adequate . The plumbing is quirky - our pipes whistled most of the day and night , and the bathroom had a distinct sewer order on our first day. The staff is very warm and lovely , and the food is amazing ! Happy hour brings terrific frozen drinks . The menu incorrectly states that breakfast is included - please verify when you check in- our bill was corrected when we questioned the charges. One takes a steep walk to a wonderful warm ocean beach. The infinity pool is small but refreshing.

The Mango Moon Hotel offers amazing restaurant and poolside views of the Pacific Ocean. Donna is an amazing hostess. They really are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure your stay is as wonderful as possible. Be sure to take the hike down to the beach from their gated entrance (towards the back of the hotel). At low tide, there are some wonderful tide pools to explore and the beach is very peaceful and private. On the 15 minute hike there and back, you may see monkeys and other animals in the forest.

I can't say enough good things about this place. Donna, the owner, truly loves Costa Rica and is so personally invested in your having a wonderful experience. The hotel is small and quaint (9 rooms), good food, lovely pool. She didn't have any avail in her hotel for some other people looking for a room in Manuel Antonio and reached out to her fellow hotel friends on facebook to try to find them one. She also provided us great recommendations for activities and nightlife. I would definitely stay here again. If you want a personal touch and people who truly want you to love CR like they do- stay here

We stayed here for almost a week with our 2-year-old and had a great time. Donna the owner let us stay in a better room that was available for a couple nights. The views are breath-taking and you may well see more monkeys here than in the actual park. Mornings can be noisy with all of the wildlife, but for us we just used it as an alarm clock. The food was good, made fresh with a personal touch. Donna and the staff worked around the little glitches that can happen and will happen in this very challenging jungle environment. Our only advise, and this is NOT the fault of the hotel, is that if you are traveling with young children, it's not the ideal place due to the very high balconies, large gaps in the railings, and steep steps to other floors. You cannot let them explore around this place at all and will be hating life having to chase after them incessantly. Other small critiques: no high chair for kids. If you are going to accept toddlers, you need a high chair. Also, more lights on terrace during dinner hours would have been nice, even if it does attract bugs. No light makes the place seem lifeless and closed.

My partner and I stayed here for our Honeymoon and we couldn't have been happier with our choice to stay here for a week. First of all, the views from here are incredible. It's location is superb since you can walk to most beaches and all the restaurants along the strip. Most of the other hotels are quite far or in isolated areas. The owner, Donna, is quite the host and will help you with whatever it is you need. The other members of staff are equally as friendly and always happy to help out. We stayed in the Howler Hangout room, which 100% lived up to its' name. We were visited by these loud and magnificent creatures 3 times during our stay and our large and private balcony gave us the best view of them up in the trees (and the other wildlife too). Our room was also isolated from the main part of the hotel and was built as an addition separate from the others. So, if you want privacy this is your best bet. Now, we used the pool every day and not once did we have to share it, despite the hotel being mostly booked up. Honestly, we felt like it was there just for us! Oh, and the view from the pool is just haaaamazing! There is a private beach (shared with another hotel) just down a steep jungly/rocky path, which takes about 8-10 minutes to get to. After going to all the beaches in the area we loved this one the most because it was less busy and at times completely empty apart from us. Perfect for a couple looking to spend some alone time ;) hah. As for food, our favourite restos were the little fish place El Gato Pescador (great for lunch, but not comfortable enough for dinner), the Falafel Bar, Cafe Milagro and Cafe Agua Azul. Do NOT waste your money on El Avion, the food there was terrible and you're paying for the gimmicky airplane bar they have. If you're looking for the gay experience, the best bar was Karma, which is to the left of the restaurant Victorias. The owner Michael was super friendly and told us where to go and what to do re: being a gay couple. We also went to Liquid Lounge which is the gay club, typical house music and a basement vibe, but a lot of fun. In any case, we will be going back to Manuel Antonio in the future and staying here again, without a doubt!

Room Tip: The rooms on the lower level are by the pool and people can walk by your sitting area, I would recom...
