The whole experience was excellent from the start. They were very accommodating at requests. The staff were friendly, helpful, personable and professional. The staff went out of their way to help my travel companion when she broke her foot and had to be on crutches. They even moved us to a lower floor to accommodate her temporary handicap. The views from the room are outstanding. Unlike a previous review, I loved the nearby beach as well as the walk in nature to get there. The food was delicious and the building beautiful. It was the kindness shown from the staff that really made this trip as wonderful and memorable as it was. R and C from Santa Barbara, Ca

We just returned from Costa Rica, where we spent our entire 7 day honeymoon at Issimo Suites. All of the staff members are so nice. The front desk staff were efficient and helpful. They booked all our excursions and also made restaurant reservations and called taxis. The cleaning staff did a fantastic job as well. It was so nice to come back from our excursions to find a clean and tidy room with fresh towels waiting. The restaurant was running a special and all of the food was 50% off! The food is good with all fresh ingredients. Breakfast in the morning includes a buffet with fresh fruit, pancakes, and pastry in addition to freshly prepared dishes from the kitchen. They serve the traditional gallo pinto with eggs and also an "American breakfast" with bacon and eggs. They deliver coffee outside your room at about 6 am every morning so you can enjoy a cup there before heading upstairs for breakfast. They have a great happy hour special that runs from 12-5pm with buy 1 get 1 free drinks. We enjoyed sitting out in the patio area near the pool during this time and chatting with other couples. I really liked the fact that its an adult's only hotel since it was our honeymoon. The pool is really pretty and also very clean. My favorite part of the hotel is the amazing view of the water and also the "jungle". We only saw one monkey :( But a sloth did move into one of the trees in front of the restaurant area, so that was a consolation :) The website made it sound like our room had a private balcony, which it did not, we shared our balcony with another room. I would have most likely upgraded if I had known we did not have th private balcony. The sheets in the room were clean and of good quality and the bed is really soft and comfy however the throw pillows and duvet cover were a little dingy so we took them off the bed. The shower has very poor water pressure which was disappointing and also does not get very hot. The restaurant staff has to calculate by hand the price of your meal/drinks there is no electronic system and since they are required to give you a dollar price instead of colones the waitor made a few mistakes that my husband caught and had to have corrected. There are TV's in every room and they have a few English channels so we were able to watch the Olympics!! Some guests have complained about the noise when you are located near the stairs, but we were never disturbed. The small private Playa Biesanz is about a 10 minute walk away and the larger public Playa Espadilla is about a 15 minute walk down a steep hill, but we much preferred this beach because it was better for sunbathing and swimming (if you like the waves). We rarely took a taxi, there are many restaurants within walking distance at the top of the hill on the main road. Overall the positives outweigh the negatives by a long shot and we had a great trip. Thanks Issimo!

My husband and I spent our anniversary here and are so glad we did. The rooms were so nice, and we loved the panoramic views the glass windows gave. The location was beautiful of jungle and beach (we saw monkeys and toucans!) and the service is top notch. This is a great place to experience luxury and relaxation.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights in March. We had a wonderful time and definitely recommend it for couples who are looking for a nice, small, intimate resort experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful in recommending places and booking reservations. Our room was very nice (with the most comfortable bed) and the most incredible views of the rainforest. It was a little funny that the bathroom is not a complete separate room (just area) but thankfully we're very comfortable around one another so we didn't mind. We ate breakfast at the restaurant each morning and monkeys would literally run up to you at times (one even stole a slice of banana off of my plate on our last day!). We couldn't stop laughing about it. We both got massages one day which was really nice. It was definitely a nice addition to our stay and took place in a cute, little, cave-like room. The hotel is good walking distance from a little quiet alcove beach (you just need to do a mini hike through the forest). This was honestly a cool experience in itself though, we saw lots of animals and it wasn't anything intense. We rented kayaks over there and just relaxed. Since I was already pretty tired by the end of this though, walking back uphill to the hotel after coming out through the forest was not my favorite 5 min. of the day, but certainly do-able. It was nice to come back to the hotel and jump in the pool with a happy hour drink before returning to the room to shower and get ready for dinner. On other days we went to the main beach in Manuel Antonio which is more crowded (but not annoyingly so) and also beautiful. We had rented a car so could easily drive over there and found this convenient. Don't pay anyone to park or "watch" your car over there - it's just scams. You can totally park along the main street on your own and be fine (people stand over there and try to take advantage of the fact that tourists don't know this so that they can make some extra money). We went to the Manuel Antonio National Park and didn't use a tour guide. You must go here! We didn't find a tour guide to be necessary and felt that we saw just as many animals as we would have without one. It was helpful to have binoculars though to spot the sloths high up in the trees. You can bring a bathing suit and stop along the gorgeous beaches throughout the hike. Around here in Manuel Antonio there are many great spots for lunch were you can just stop in. For dinner we had a great experience at Victoria's, you should definitely have dinner here. We also really enjoyed dinner at La Luna which is at another hotel (they drive you up the hill to the restaurant in a little golf cart which was very cute). This was a romantic dinner for our last night. All in all - we definitely recommend Issimo Suites and the rest of the mentioned places above. One extra tip - re-apply sun block often which sounds typical but it's the truth. I don't burn often and had lotion on and still got burned one day. The sun here is not like most other places (well I'm from NY so definitely not like here anyway). Enjoy!!

My husband and I recently got back from our honeymoon and we spent 4 nights in room 106 at Issimo. We were greeted with a welcome drink and very friendly service from the moment we got there. Right when we checked in we booked three excursions through the hotel and enjoyed every one of them. The companies the hotel works with are excellent, well-run and worth the money.

In our room we were greeted with a 180% views of the beach and a beautiful layout with rose petals, and a private balcony. Every morning we were greeted with monkeys playing on the balcony below us. We had a lot of fun watching them and taking lots of pictures. They never climbed onto our balcony probably because they would have to pass two other balconies to get to ours. One morning as we walked down to breakfast Titi monkeys were on the property and about 5-6 people were feeding them bananas. (Referring to someone's review below once we stopped feeding them, they hung out on the ledges for about 5-10 minutes, then they went back into the jungle. Remember this is the jungle; Issimo has ZERO control over what animals come onto the property.)

Some details that I loved were coffee delivered every morning. (The coffee mugs were left on top of the microwave in the room; again referring to someone's review below) The privacy our suite had was wonderful! Only if we stretched head did we see other people's balconies. Also our room had it's own private staircase.

We also felt the pool area was very nice. There were cushioned lounge chairs under umbrellas with the bathroom nearby. The service was also incredible from breakfast, to dinner to the front desk from Elizabeth and Ivania. We also had a couples massage that was very nice. We get massages all the time and felt that both women did a fantastic job and really relaxed us.

As for the beach it's about an 8 minute walk from the hotel and 2-3 minutes were spent walking through the jungle getting to it. It's not the type of beach to layout at and their aren't any waves there. It does have pretty views and it was a nice walk for us around 4 in the afternoon before dinner. The beach is called Playa Biesanz if you want to do more research on your own. We enjoyed the beach after our tour through the National Park.

Overall this place is very nice and worth the money. We would definitely come back and stay here again!

Although it was not perfect, our stay at Issimo was excellent and an excellent value. We spent 3 nights in the Jacuzzi Junior Suite and one in the Penthouse (101). We got super last-minute deals ($119 for the jacuzzi Junior). Both rooms were very nice, with the Penthouse being gorgeous. I found the service to be 5-star, with Elizabeth at the front desk being particularly helpful with tours. Breakfast was standard and other meals were good, especially with the 50% off special they were running. I recommend the ceviche, fish casada and the margaritas. My biggest complaint is that they feed monkeys, or at least do not discourage it. This may lead to thrills for some guests because monkeys hang out on the property in the morning, it is hands-down bad for the monkeys. (And it contributes to monkeys waking you up in the morning.) I think they should stop this and post notes in the rooms advising against it. I found the other imperfections small and easy to forgive: beds too soft (but note that the couch-like pieces in the room are firm); while the bed linens were good, the other linens (throw pillows, table linens) were cheap; too many red petals too often; some wildlife (bats, crabs) on the property; the teak lounge chairs at the pool were pretty but too heavy to move myself. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and it was a great value. Highlights of our trip were the guided tour of the park, surfing lessons, ziplining, walking around Quepos, and dining at Gaia's restaurant. Enjoy.

We just returned from a 11 day trip to Costa Rica, and we stayed at Issimo are last four nights. We had a really enjoyable stay, BUT we also had very realistic expectations. There were other guests who complained and griped about everything without really stopping to take in the surroundings...you are in the rainforest. There will be small bugs, lizards, crabs on the property. The monkeys will wake you up very early. It is a boutique hotel, so you will hear noise on the property from time to time. With that being said, some rooms were clearly better than others. We had room 107 and LOVED it. We had a large, private balcony and a spacious interior. We had a walk-in closet and private bath area with swinging doors. We were woken up early by the monkeys and occasionally heard footsteps from above, but nothing that bothered us in the least. The room next to us (108) and below us (110) were not so lucky. They seemed to get a lot of the noise flow from the stairwell, doors opening/shutting, footsteps above, and laundry (which was done early in the morning and could be loud from certain areas).

The pool was nice for a refreshing dip, especially after a trek to the small beach. The beach is beautiful and isolated from the hustle and bustle of others in the area. We took running shoes and jogged down the hill (5 minutes at most) and then took our time making the steep climb back up. This is not that uncommon for the area...so get ready to work out your calves!

The breakfast was on par for a free breakfast...nothing to write home about but it filled you up. We ate lunch and dinner once there (2X1 meals); we were disappointed with the food and preferred to try the many local restaurants on the top of the hill. Be prepared to barter with taxis...we learned to ask a cost up front and decline if it was too high. There were so many taxis around, we just waited for the next one who gladly lowered the rate.

Service seemed a bit spotty for us. The staff were friendly but distant, and part of this may have been due to a language barrier. Some days are room was cleaned top to bottom, flowers and fruit left, and the hot tub filled with petals etc. Other days it wasn't cleaned until very late and we didn't get enough towels, robes etc. We simply shrugged it off and went to the front desk to ask for whatever we needed. Whenever we asked, they jumped on it. Again, we didn't find this to be too bothersome, but others might not be okay with waiting.

We did book a tour from the hotel and were satisified. We did not like our couples massage that much, as they didn't really seem to know what they were doing. Again, we laughed it off and made an appointment at a wonderful place called Rain Drop Spa. Overall, we had a fantastic time because we appreciate the good and shrug off the bad. Go there with an open mind and allow yourself to relax...it will be worth it!

Room Tip: Room 107 had a great location and wonderful set-up
