Nothing in Costa Rica is cheap but this place is within a backpackers budget and well worth the money. The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly too. The place has a great view across MA, there is a large kitchen and 2 supermarkets nearby but if you can't be bothered to cook the food at the hostel is well priced and good value - BIG portions. Towels are included too! Always a bonus in my book.

We booked the Loma Linda house, which is a few kilometers up hill from Vista Serena. We stayed downstairs (i think upstairs is even nicer). We booked one bedroom for 3 person, the second bedroom was not used, so we had the living room and the kitchen just for ourselves. There is really plenty of space. In front of the house there is a small patio with hammock, table and chairs. Eating breakfast outside was nice. There is a small shopping center right on the other side of the road and a bank with atm. The bus stop was just a few meters away and theres plenty of restaurants next to the main road. We felt save, there was even a night guard at night. The reception at Vista Serena was very helpful - we stayed in contact via email, which worked very well with the free wifi. The beach is not that close. The first day we walked down along the main road about 30min. It was ok, but with all these fast driving cars (no walkway) maybe a bit dangerous (especially at night). After that we took the bus - there is one after every 20min - which was much better and not so expensive. Theres also plenty of taxis. Next to the beach theres also many restaurants, shops and a market with souvenirs. Loma Linda is a great place to stay and the Vista Serena crew is very nice and helpful.

The place is not that good but the view is worth it so you juste forget everything! I was in the big dormitory (like 20 beds) and there was no lights to go there at night so if you can choose your room take one with 4 or 6 beds. Otherwise the location is not that good because you need a cab or the bus to go the beach.

Ran by an american guy fluent in many languages. Stayed in the big dorm which had fresh sheets upon our arrival, a relatively clean shower and bathroom. The hostel has a kitchen that serves reasonably priced breakfasts and dinners. Hostel has free coffee and toast in the morning, with one of most amazing views I've ever seen in my life. You can keep valuables locked up in the safe behind the desk, accessible most of the day. Security guard at nights. Stay here.

I just returned from a 3 month trip to Costa Rica. Out of all the hostels I stayed in, Vista Serena was one of the best. The location was perfect - a short bus ride away from Manuel Antonio. The people were friendly and the room was perfect for the group of 11 I was travelling with. We were able to hang out around the hostel at night too, which was a problem at other hostels due to noise restrictions. Not to mention the view was breathtaking. Not only did I have a great experience at Vista Serena, but I had forgotten my tennis shoes there and they shipped them back to me in San Jose without a problem.

I would highly recommend this hostel.

Stayed in a 4 bed dorm, there was ac and a fan we were right next to the washroom but didnt hear any noise
Great view from the balcony
Took the public bus from San Jose (I think the station was called tracopa and we had assigned seating so no one was standing)
Great hostel, a little bit far from the main beach, we didn't see the hostel from the bus so we got off at the last stop and took a cab from there, make sure to just run the meter if you do this, we asked how much before we got in the cab and he ended up charging 2.5 times the meter rate
Great staff, very friendly
Took the public bus for about 300 colones down to the park and beach
Food in this town is very pricey compared to other parts of Costa Rica (went to San Jose Monteverde and arenal so not sure about other beach towns) there is a small kitchen to cook your own food

As a side note Was a little disappointed with the guided Park walk, didnt see as much wildlife as we wanted.
