“Private, secluded, and perfect”

What a fantastic place and unlike any other in Quepos/Manuel Antonio. Areanas del Mar was a great get-away for our family who stayed four nights in one of the larger suites--it's very kid friendly. The grounds are gorgeous and the rooms stunning: beautifully appointed and all (it seems) with dramatic ocean-views. The pools were fantastic and the staff incredibly helpful and polished for such a new place. A few kinks still need some working out--timing for the wait staff could be improved--but when you're on vacation in a place like this, it doesn't really matter does it?

Areanas del Mar is very private and rather secluded--you would never know that you are in Quepos--with a more or less private beach in front of the hotel. All you hear are birds, monkeys, and surf. The food is excellent--high quality ingredients and very well prepared--and the breakfast that comes with the room leaves good to go. No cars are permitted on the property--there is a car park at the entrance--and guests are shuttled up and down the steep hills on golf carts. Our kids love that!

We've visited Quepos a number of times over the years and stayed/visited many of the most popular hotels. Without a doubt, Areanas del Mar is far and away the best hotel in Manuel Antonio and you would do well to book early. By this next tourist season, I suspect, reservations will be hard to obtain.

Arenas Del Mar was the perfect, sustainable tourism hotel for us in the Manual Antonio Area. The staff was very accomodating, and the sights, sounds, and service were outstanding. We saw more wildlife on the grounds of the resort than we saw in the national park! The room rates are great for what you are getting, however, food and drinks are quite pricey. I would recommend eating out as much as possible, if you are looking to save a few dollars. The rooms were very clean, very new and comfortable, and didn't lack any necessities. I would recommend this resort to anyone headed to the M.A. area.

We just returned from Arenas del Mar and had a wonderful time. We, too, requested a room in the highest building, and boy did we receive! Our room had wonderful sliding screen doors. We left the doors open to the screens at night and listened to the surf. Many travelers recommend staying at a hotel at the top of the mountain to overlook the sea, but the view is truly beautiful where we were and we wouldn't have been able to listen to the sea at night.
We enjoyed the sunsets at hotels such as Mariposa (highly recommended for dinner and drinks at sunset) and then came back down to our plush beautiful hotel for the night. The beds were very comfortable with down duvets. We had two bathrooms in the ocean view suite, one was huge. When you open the door to the room, you have the most beautiful view of the sea. The balcony was huge. We spent entire days out there relishing the view and looking for monkeys, sloths, etc.
The staff was wonderful. They, as other travelers noted, would run out to show you a sloth hiding in the trees. We saw many monkeys running around the property.
The lower pool had a wonderful restaurant for lunch. We requested to be served on the beach under the shade of the trees and they were happy to accommodate.
Our friends had highly recommended Mariposa, but after viewing both properties, I know we made the right choice for the reasons listed above.
The staff made everything easy for us, as well. They booked our cab services to the restaurants in town (you will be served a very hearty breakfast at the hotel, which is delicious) for dinner, rafting and ziplining trips, etc. They also gave us colones for our American dollars, when needed. You will need many, many ones (in dollars) for tips here. We were advised before we left, but did not bring nearly enough. As stated before, the hotel did help with this.
Overall, it is just a beautiful property with beautiful rooms. Next time we stay in Costa Rica, we will not hesitate to book our stay there.

For our first trip to Costa Rica, my husband and I looked for a safe, on the beach hotel. This place was very safe, clean, and gorgeous. It's a new eco-friendly resort with two beaches in front of it and within walking distance. You can also walk down the beach to the fabulous National Park. When we walked into the room, I thought the bathroom was great and the bedroom nice but nothing outrageous, then we opened the curtains and saw a fabulous view (Punta Catedral) and huge balcony with wet bar and sitting area. I really liked the sliding glass doors and sliding screen door which let us decide to a/c it or enjoy the humidity. Some rooms have jacuzzi tubs on the balconies but your neighbors might be able to see you, so check on that if you want your privacy. Yummy food, fabulous service, monkeys and sloths in sight but not too close, ignore the little crabs that are crawling around everywhere (not in rooms) at night. Could get pricey if you stay several nights, we stayed two and I think our money was very well spent. This place is great for couples, didn't see much for kids and one beach is pretty rough.

I can't understand how anyone would not give this 5 stars all the way around! The grounds were beautiful, full of wildlife! The room was amazing on a cliff overlooking the ocean with a hot tub on the huge very private deck. The room was super clean, the bed so comfortable, the service was absolutely impeccible! The one thing we did not completely love was the food but we found the food here was comparable with the "good" restaurants in town. The location was perfect, close to everything...you can walk to MA Park along the beach, you can go to some of the best fishing in the world, anything you want and the hotel will arrange it for you! A must in my book!

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. This eco-friendly hotel opened in Nov. We were upgraded to 703-A for 2 of the 3 nights which we were repeatedly told was one of the nicest rooms in the entire hotel. Well it has to be! The large suite had gorgeous nearly panoramic views of the ocean, Manuel Antonio Park, the hotel, the beach etc. The balcony was very large and wrapped around the side of the building and had a jacuzzi too. If you are going, I highly recommend the buildings in the 700 section (I heard 600 is good too). 2nd and especially the 3rd floor are best. We then had to sadly move to a room in the 200s which would have been wonderful, but for the fact we had just stayed 2 nights in 703-A.

The hotel staff was fabulous from the time you pull up to the downstairs gate (the hotel is a little tough to get to as you have to drive up and down some pretty steep hills but it is worth it). Everyone, including the groundskeepers greeted us and asked if we needed anything. Victor, who drives everyone around, was so helpful and went out of his way to make our stay so nice. Ask for him, he has great knowledge of the area. The (new) restuarant manager was also very nice too. The food at the hotel was decent. Breakfast was best. Dinners were good but they use a lot of sauce on everything.

The location of the hotel and the logistics of getting your car do make it a little tough to get into the city or Quepos, but the hotel does run cart service at all hours so you can get to the car its just a little bit of a challenge.

The beaches are nice. Be warned the Playitas beach is a legacy gay beach and families were clearly initially taken aback until they realized what was going on. Go check out the other beach and walk into the park and spend some time at Manuel Antonio beach which is gorgeous. Those beaches are nicer and the waves/water are calmer than the ones at Playitas.

All in all a wonderful hotel, with a great staff, 5 star accommodations and hospitality! We highly recommend anyone to stay there. We hope to go back very soon!!!
