Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort
Ranked #4 of 46 Hotels in Manuel Antonio

This was the 4th hotel in a lightning tour of 5 in Costa Rica. Others were more basic such as Pacuare but service standards were better.
Room-neither telephone or wi fi worked on arrival. Fixed on 4th time of asking. Drains and sink plugs mal functioning.
Dinner. Beer at bar was warm. Wine at dinner was off. Even new bottle at 38 US was rank.
Restaurant. No atmosphere. Bland piped music.
Breakfast. Food arrives in spasms and in the wrong order. Constantly having to ask for items eg knife an side plate for toast.
Reception. Usual administrative fandango with mandatory card guarantee only to be told our room was not then available. Why not send us to lunch straightaway and then do the check in.
By themselves these are minor irritations but even allowing for Puranas vida standards have to match the prices which is down to management or lack of it.

Dear RichardB,
thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your stay with us. We are very sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced in your room and during meal times. This is certainly not the service standard that we strive for and that our guests are used to. As you know, we tried to fix the situations on the spot when you brought them to our attention, but for some reason, we were not able to pull things off correctly with your stay. We are working hard right now to make sure that those same things will not happen again to any future guests. We hope you accept our appologies and give us another oportunity to serve you better in the near future.

This place is a simply amazing stay. We were there for four nights which I will never forget! For my review, I will start off with the negative aspect I found. There was only one and it was the cost. This place is probably the most expensive stay I have ever been at, but it was worth it! Also, if you were to drive there, the drive down the hill to the place is incredibly steep and very narrow.
Now to the positive aspects! The room was wonderful! The bed room and it's bath were separated from the rest of the rooms because they were air conditioned to make sleep comfortable because it could be a little warm and humid outside, nothing uncomfortable but it might not be the best conditions for sleeping. The other room had a small refrigerator that they kept full of water and some basic snacks. One could then go to the hot tub on the patio and get a great view of the ocean. Everything in the room was comfortable and well maintained. One could then just take a short walk down to what is an almost private beach depending on the tide. The beach is totally secluded from the public beach to the south if there was much of a tide at all but when the tide recessed a lot, you could climb over a small rock structure and get to the public beach there. You could also get there through a trail or they would shuttle you there. At the other beach they did offer surfing lessons which were very private and fantastic. On the site, the food was great, the service was wonderful and always friendly! At night, they would always have some sort of an event. One night, they had a meeting on all of the wildlife in the area and where and how they could be found. Another night, they had a dinner on the beach with great musicians playing very Caribbean type music. It was just amazing sitting there on the beach under the full moon listening to that with wonderful food and service! Something I will never forget!
There was such a small number of rooms for guests that there were never lines and one could really have a great deal of privacy. You could also get to know guests because there was such a small number which I really enjoyed and it made the stay even more comfortable. Also, there were a couple of nice short trails right behind the place and we saw more wildlife there than when we went and toured Manuel Antonio Park! We sat on a nice bench along the trail and watched different monkeys playing with each other for over a half an hour all by ourselves! All I can say about this place is it is quite expensive, but the stay was still totally worth it and it will be an experience I will never forget!

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. Originally we had planned to bounce around the country, but instead we opted to stay put at this mysterious place we'd heard great things about.

We drove in from San Jose in a rental car. Pro tip: pay for the GPS. The drive was gorgeous, relatively easy, and so much fun. We were warned in advance that the roads are a little gnarly for the average American, and that the entrance to the resort would sneak up on us. It did. We barreled down the driveway into the rainforest.

From the very first moments, we were in awe, and it never stopped. The staff became like family, the grounds became a paradise, and each day was both adventurous and relaxing. The food was just plain excellent. We've never been that excited to eat breakfast before!

The beach was unbelievable. Monkeys and sloths and birds and sunsets. Seriously, what more do you want? The rooms were amazing, like living in a luxury suite in a rainforest castle. Clean, cool, and private. The weather was excellent, and we were in the rainy season.

Golf carts are available to zip you around the property at any moment, and there is plenty do on the property or in the surrounding area. Tons of restaurants with wonderful people. Costa Rica is a wonderful country, and Arenas del Mar infinitely amplifies the experience.

I could write for hours. Maybe I'll come back and write more. Bottom line, don't hesitate. Book now.

I chose Costa Rica to celebrate my fiance's birthday last week, and after much research we chose to stay here for 6 nights- I am so glad that we did, it was nothing short of amazing.
Upon arrival to the resort we were greeted with genuinely friendly smiles and a delicious natural fruit drink.
The property is in the middle of the rain forest and they do an effort to make the wildlife and nature the focal point. Highlights- We spotted a family of howling monkeys right outside of our balcony on the first day, as well as a Sloth and baby by the entry lobby every day, among many other animals.
The food is amazingly fresh, and delicious at both restaurants- breakfast, lunch, dinner (best seared ahi tuna I've had to date.) The drinks are prepared with natural fruits and top shelf liquor. We had all of our meals at the hotel and looked forward to them every day!
I must say that Rodbin (manager on duty) made our stay perfect. I expressed to the check in staff that there was a misunderstanding on my behalf regarding the room that we booked, and the next day Rodbin approached us and offered us a suite with a jaccuzzi in the balcony and a breath taking view of the Pacific Ocean and Manuel Antonio park- totally surpassed our expectations, he made sure every day of our stay that we were happy and taken care of.
Just a few names that stand out- Heiner (concierge) William, Angel. Everybody was so great and assisted in making my fiance's birthday an unforgettable one.
The private beach "Playitas" is a major plus.
We were very sad to leave and are now planning our next trip to Costa Rica!
I highly recommend this resort to everyone, we will never forget our stay.

Dear Liliana,
greetings from green and lush Manuel Antonio. Thank you for taking the time to write such a great review about your romantic getaway to Arenas del Mar. We agree that a stay at our resort is a wonderful experience for honeymooners and romantic couples. Thanks for pointing our the incredible wildlife that you can experience around the hotel. A mayor plus for sure and other guests told us the other day that say saw more monkeys and birds around the hotel than in Manuel Antonio National Park itself that is just within walking distance. We were very excited about your raving food and beverage comments. We have significantly upgraded the menus in the past months and it seems that things are working well. We are glad to hear that Rodbin, our Manager on Duty was able to solve the situation you encountered and that you were able to create such a great connection with the rest of our team. How great that you are already planning a return trip. We hope to see you again at Arenas del Mar and maybe at a few of the other Cayuga Collection Sustainable Luxury Hotels and Lodges of which our resort forms part of. All the best.

This place is amazing! We spent five days and four nights at the resort which can only be described as paradise. We had a beautiful room overlooking the ocean. The bed was so cozy and we wanted to take the pillows home with us. We had a chance to see wildlife (monkeys, lizards, birds, and sloths) right outside from our balcony.

The staff was first class. A great group of people who are dedicated to providing guests with a unique vacation experience. We especially enjoyed having drinks at the bar with Oscar and Angel. Luis and Pedro were wonderful waiters who enriched our dining experience. The gentlemen driving the golf carts to help us get around always smiled and made pleasant conversation.

The spa was a delightful getaway for a few hours. The couples massage we had was a great way to unwind.

The food was fantastic. A good variety on the menu. We ate at both venues multiple times and found something new and delicious each time. The drinks were tasty and befitting this rainforest heaven. The fresh fruit at breakfast made for a refreshing start to the day.

No complaints, can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ocean View Suite was plenty big enough for the two of us
