“Best hotel in Manuel Antonio!”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

We were blown away by the Arenas Del Mar property in Manuel Antonio. We chose to stay there for a friend's wedding in the nearby area and we're so glad that we did. We were intrigued when we found out that it was the only property in the local area that had direct beachfront access, but we came to appreciate far more about it than simply that. For starters, nearly all of the rooms have beachfront views or close proximity. We fell asleep to the sound of the waves each night. But then we started each morning with a delicious breakfast, free of charge to hotel guests. The staff were also incredibly accommodating in helping us plan excursions and day trips. They also went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. The rooms themselves were comfortable and beautifully decorated. And I found the property incredibly reasonable for the high-quality experience we had. In short, it had a "luxury" feel at a very affordable price. If we ever return to Manuel Antonio, I can't imagine staying anywhere else!

Room Tip: They're all amazing!

This resort has everything you could want. For me the food is super important. Both as a chef and being gluten sensitive it is hard to impress me but this place did it. All the food and drinks top notch. Staff does anything they can to make you happy. Rooms are wonderful with big beds, outstanding views, largd deck, free wifi, free international calls and the list goes on. The resort gives you access to two different part of a beach with breathless views. Easy to walk into town, plan day trips are just hang out and relax. This is a dream for anyone.

I recently stayed at Arenas del Mar for a week with my husband and two sons, age 8 and 5. This is a beautiful resort, with many amenities and a focus on sustainability and preservation of the natural beauty of the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The hotel is on a huge property that has mostly been preserved for the local wildlife and plant life. We saw so much wildlife right there at the resort. The suite that we stayed in was clean and spacious with a stunning view of the beach and the Pacific Ocean. The private beach was great, as were the two swimming pools. The staff was friendly, professional and attentive. They went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and happy. It was obvious that they take pride in their work, and really care about their guests. They were great at recommending activities and restaurants for my family. This truly is a first class establishment. It was the perfect place for our family vacation.

We couldn't have been happier during our stay at Arenas del Mar. The staff is truly top notch and made this one of the best vacations we've had. The hotel is located on the hills leading to the beach in seven separate building with 38 rooms total (100 building is at the beach, 700 is closest to reception at the top of the hill). There is a pool at reception and another small pool at the beach. The main reception area has a very nice restaurant, a small gift shop, a library nook, a spa and a bar. The pool at the beach has a restaurant (open during the day with additional seating on the beach). The hotel offers many things to do right on grounds: spa, nature walks, tortilla making class (so fun and free!), and, of course lounging at their private beach with drink service to boot! The mini-fridges, sinks, and coffee pot are on the balconies and it truly makes for wonderful outdoor living (cabinets have child locks to keep the monkeys out- how cool is that?!). We really enjoyed searching the grounds for animals and spotted: sloths, capuchins, squirrel monkeys, agouti, vine snakes, boas, tree frogs, rain frogs, woodpeckers, tanagers, caracara, hummingbird, aracaris, and hawks, to name a few. Go visit Manuel Antonio and stay at Arenas del Mar. I promise you will be happy you did.

Room Tip: The higher the number, the better the ocean view. The lower the number, the closer to the beach.

The Arenas del Mar was the third place we stayed at during our 2 week tour of Costa Rica. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, so much that a security guard showed us the two sloths just outside the premises. If it had not been for the titis in Manuel Antonio, there would have been no need to leave the place, as wildlife was so abundant and the private beach gorgeous!

My girlfriend and I had an excellent time at Arenas del Mar. The room had an amazing view. The wildlife on the property was extensive. All the staff were very enthusiastic about making sure we were having a good time. It was a tremendous vacation, and the location and character of the hotel as well as the quality of the staff played a major part in the success of the vacation.

This was the 4th hotel in a lightning tour of 5 in Costa Rica. Others were more basic such as Pacuare but service standards were better.
Room-neither telephone or wi fi worked on arrival. Fixed on 4th time of asking. Drains and sink plugs mal functioning.
Dinner. Beer at bar was warm. Wine at dinner was off. Even new bottle at 38 US was rank.
Restaurant. No atmosphere. Bland piped music.
Breakfast. Food arrives in spasms and in the wrong order. Constantly having to ask for items eg knife an side plate for toast.
Reception. Usual administrative fandango with mandatory card guarantee only to be told our room was not then available. Why not send us to lunch straightaway and then do the check in.
By themselves these are minor irritations but even allowing for Puranas vida standards have to match the prices which is down to management or lack of it.

Dear RichardB,
thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your stay with us. We are very sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced in your room and during meal times. This is certainly not the service standard that we strive for and that our guests are used to. As you know, we tried to fix the situations on the spot when you brought them to our attention, but for some reason, we were not able to pull things off correctly with your stay. We are working hard right now to make sure that those same things will not happen again to any future guests. We hope you accept our appologies and give us another oportunity to serve you better in the near future.
