Marvin of El Pinto Expeditions is fabulous!! I enjoyed a 3 hour ride on the beach engaged in great and interesting conversation with Marvin. We stopped along the way to give the horses and myself a rest and indulging on a fresh pineapple and water which was shared with the horses. Marvin is extremely passionate about his horses and his clients and take GREAT care of both. If you choose to go horse back riding contact Marvin directly, don't go through a tour company. Marvin will also help you plan the perfect horseback riding experience for you, just tell him what you are hoping for....a short hour ride, and picnic on the beach etc. Let it be know that Marvin will do nothing to put his horses in and sort of danger or harm. He is such a caring man and will do his best to accommodate you. You will love this experience!!
Thank you Marvin,
Sandra

“Fantastic! Pick this one!”
Reviewed 1 January 2014 via mobile

Marvin is a fantastic guy who took us on a ride on the beach that we will never forget. Horses were well kept and we understood quickly that he is very good with them, and does this because he loves the horses.
Experienced and novices are both welcome. The two of us are experienced riders and we loved it. The horses were very well trained and needed very little to make them do as we asked. When I thought gallop, Cookie started without hesitation.
Choose this one as he does a great experience (only takes max 4) and he really takes great care of his horses and the riders!

We had such a wonderful time riding the horses on the beach with Marvin! The ride was beautiful and Marvin made everyone feel including those that had never been on horses before feel very comfortable. We would definitely do it again!

“Great ride for experienced riders and novices alike.”
Reviewed 23 December 2013

Marvin and El Pinto are a great choice for riding on the Southern Nicoya. We have our own horses who live with us, and were really happy to find horses who were not only well trained, but were also interactive and willing partners. It is rare to find horses on the road that allow you to experience the rider-horse interaction that is the best part of riding. Marvin's crew is clearly well cared for and given the attention they need to know they are partners in his business. These guys are not only safe, but not deadened. Although we were into a relaxed ride, Marvin's horses were happy to respond to anything we asked of them, to move away from the pack and lead, move into a trot, or happily walk along and allow for great conversations with Marvin. Marvin is based in Cabuya now, a short drive from Montezuma. We chose to ride for several hours at night on the beach in the end, but next time will go into the mountains. Couldn't resist a chance to ride on the beach under the nearly full moon with waves breaking in the background. Marvin is very involved in his community and the conversation was another great bonus of the ride. Watching some riders in Montezuma a few days later only reinforced how happy I was we went with Marvin. Marvin also speaks great English and has spent time in US and Canada, allowing for pleasant, in-depth conversations for English speakers. By the way, Marvin is pictured in James Kaiser's guide book in the Montezuma section on p. 335 with his charming gray Niso. While Marvin is a bit more expensive than some of the Montezuma based rides, I think the experience again proves you get what you pay for. Definitely worth supporting.

“Excellent tour by wonderful tour guide - Pura Marvin!”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

This was my 3rd trip with Marvin, and every trip was fantastic. I LOVE the small, personalized tour. Marvin is a true horseman - he cares so much about his horses - and his clients. On this trip, I had just completed a year of medical treatments and was just getting back to my usual level of fitness. Marvin made sure that I had a very gentle, easy going horse so I wouldn't be anxious. He brought 3 of us on a beautiful ride through some primary and secondary jungle up the mountain from Cabuya. We saw lots of wildlife that we wouldn't have ever noticed if Marvin wasn't there to show us. From the top of the mountain vista we could see the Pacific - so awe inspiring. One of the many things that I've always enjoyed about riding with Marvin is that it's fun to learn a bit of Spanish - although Marvin speaks English fluently, he is always helpful when I/we try to speak Espanol. He is also very knowledgeable about the local area - recommending restaurants, hotels and beaches. I'm returning to Costa Rica in a couple of months with my son and his girlfriend - and we will go with Marvin again. Thanks Marvin! You're the best!
