I always say that the people make a place, and this was certainly true at Luz de Mono. The family who owns and runs the hotel were the most genuinely warm we encountered in all of Costa Rica (We had traveled through most of the country.)
Although Montezuma, with its hippy vibe, was not our most favorite location in Costa Rica, we would definitely consider mellowing out in Luz de Mono if we were ever in the area again.
We stayed in a casita located up the hill, which involved invigorating exercise--that we were in brewed of anyway! It was definitely worth the stroll, though, since along the way you can spot unique animals indigenous only to the area--right in the hotel grounds. How cool is that?
From the casita, you can glimpse, hear, and smell the Pacific Ocean. By the way, the beach with its bathtub-warm water is right across the street from the hotel!
One caveat, you probably won't get much sleep (at night anyway) with all the mayhem of the howler monkeys screeching away. You can however, catch up, sprawled out in a hammock by their beautifully tranquil pool with the sounds of the ocean crashing against the shore. Ahh, makes me want to return...
Thank you, Luz de Mono, for memories that we so cherish.More
