We only stayed here one night (as our time in Montezuma was spur of the moment & limited), but it was just what the relaxation doctor ordered! The B&B is nestled atop a hill just far away enough from the "town" area which offers quite a bit of tranquility. The only sounds are the monkeys in the morning, the jungle at night, and the occasional lovely music being played softly in the common area.

The rooms are clean and very cute with a nice TV, AC, and Wi-Fi. It was low season when we were there and none of the other rooms were booked. I think the owners, Josh & Ryan (brothers), gave us the nicest room they had (purple one) at the lowest rate they offer. We had a charming balcony right off our room that overlooked lush tropical vegetation, the butterfly garden, and the ocean off in the distance. The breakfast (which included superb coffee & fresh juice) in the morning was DELICIOUS!

I can't praise our hosts, Josh & Ryan, enough! They both really went out of their way to make us feel so comfortable while simultaneously giving us our space to enjoy our time there. I felt like we were hanging out with some old friends. They provided rides up (trust me you don't want to walk this) & down (this is fine to walk) the hill where the "town" is, gave great suggestions to places for dinner, and answered whatever little questions we had.

The other awesome thing about Mariposario is that #1 it has a Butterfly Garden on the property (it's very beautiful in there and so peaceful) and #2 there are trails to the Waterfalls right behind the property. So if you are feeling adventurous, forget the guide and put on your hiking shoes! We had a blast swimming in the waterfall and didn't have to pay a cent! Just the way nature intended...

We stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of september and loved it. The accomodations are very comfortable, modern and clean with free Wifi and satellite tv. Breakfast served every morning was awesome. Wholesome meals made fresh every day, and served to you just like it were a restaurant. The hosts ryan and josh were very friendly and informative about anything you needed to know. Its a bit of a hike up the hill to the B&B from downtown but we actually enjoyed it. There is so much wildlife in this area that we saw monkeys, armadillos, and various other wildlife just walking to and from town. I would recommend this place to any traveller, very homely feeling, and surpassed all my expectations.

Room tip: just ask the hosts, they are very helpful

We've travelled throughout Costa Rica - Montezuma was a great place to visit - because of the Mariposario Gardens. Nice & clean - and a great location up the hill and away from the noisy town. (awesome walk up the hill a great workout :)) Folks that run the place are amazing! Thanks to Josh, Rene, Phil & the rest of the gang for delicious breakfasts on the balcony each morning, good advice and just all round friendly chats. We highly recommend this place - you won't be disappointed!

Booked for 3 nights, stayed a 4th. Service from Josh and the students working at the butterfly farm was exemplary. Was offered several lifts into Montezuma when weather hit us one night with a fine electrical storm, and to get down to the fast ferry to Jaco.

Even put on some of my favourite music for me at breakfast (I don't even get that service at my girlfriends!).

Bit of a steep walk up the hill from Montezuma (about a kilometre), may be worth waiting for a taxi in the town if you arrive with much luggage!

Pura Vida, our recent visit, to Montezuma and Montezuma Garden, was the most relaxing and wonderful vacation one could have ever imagined or dreamed of, on so many levels. Time slowed down, the weather was perfect, the people friendly and the food was healthy, fresh and awesome. Montezuma Gardens was peaceful, clean, comfortable and Ryan and Josh were the best hosts. The breakfasts were amazing, thank you Rosa and Ryan, lots of good coffee, fresh fruit and great juice, especially the tamirand and watermelon. Ryan, Josh and Andrea were extremely helpful as resources for all the best things to do and places to see. The butterfly garden is amazing with many gorgeous varieties, one must see for themselves. We felt very safe and the beaches were, well, mostly vacant, the water warm, it was perfect. We are returning next spring and plan to stay longer. Pura Vida
