This place was great. It had the best breakfasts, the nicest rooms, the best service - and unlike many other hotels, it actually looks like it does in the pictures. But the best part for me was that it was comfortable enough to feel like home.
Aside from a very, very steep hill (ok down- maybe 15 minutes, not ok up), I thought the location was great. They have a beautiful
butterfly garden, a nearby waterfall a short 10-minute hike away and are just isolated enough to be rife with wilife. It's not advised to talk back up the hill after dark, and usually it's pretty easy to grab a $3 cab up. My favorite part Of the location was all the monkeys. We could either hear or spot a clan of howler monkeys every few hours, which is so amazing.
I have to give major props to the service overall. There were drinks for sale (24 hours with honor system purchases) and laundry available. We could just ask anyone there to call us a cab and expect to have one there in 15 minutes. Ryan was super knowlegable about different things to do from yoga to fishing and the cook made us the best breakfasts of our trip. The menu rotates every day, but day 1 we had an amazing piece of fried cheese, rice and beans, eggs, toast, coffee, fruit and fresh made watermelon juice. So good. Day...This place was great. Day 2 we had potatoes, eggs, fried plantains, toast, coffee, fruit and watermelon juice. Day 3 was banana pancakes with eggs, fruit coffee and watermelon juice. Then for dinners we went to get some stuff from the market and stuck it in the kitchen fridge to snack on.
This was my favorite stay in Costa Rica and I'd highly recommend it unless you really want to be in the heart of town.
