All around, the very best place to experience all the peninsula has to offer minus the tourism. This was by far the highlight of our stay. When we think back, this is what we remember most... drinking up the aliveness of quiet and nature. Our host was a wonderful man who spent much time crafting such a special place. Hospitality is not work as much as second nature. We look forward to our return. (Traveled actually Feb 2012.) My only beef and kick in the pants for next time around is that rental vehicle. (First trip and we've learned from the experience.)

We traveled Costa Rica for 2 weeks with our one-year old daughter and Suital was by far our favorite spot. It was poor relaxation, true rainforest experience and amazing food all at once. The cabins are simple but really comfortable, each with their own little patio with rocking chairs and a hammock. Carlos is a terrific cook and we had so much fun spending extended breakfasts and dinners talking to him and fellow travelers.
Suital's grounds are huge and one can spend quite a lot of time just exploring the rainforest there. It is a longer hike to the beach but the beach is really nice and secluded and the water is warm and - compared to most other beaches we have been to - very calm. Suital is a little bit off the touristy path but still offers a lot of nice spots to visit in a short driving distance.
If you prefer an authentic and personal place to stay, we can highly recommend Suital Lodge!!

We found this place via a travel guide and very glad we did. What a find. Huts were simply equipped but comfortable. The hikes down to the 'private' beach were challenging enough but not too difficult. And the beach was simply AMAZING!! Proper piece of private tropical paradise.

We were lucky we had to stop driving because of the heavy rainfall/darkness and ran in to this Lodge. This is a place where you can really relaxe! The cabines offers a lot of room for two, the shower is okay and the wooden interieur makes the vacationfeeling complete. With nature this close you forget about the rest of the world, time fly's! The eating 'place' is nice and the food (we had breakfast and dinner) is good. The beach is a 30 min walk threw nature (up and down/ slippery), but very nice. We rented kayaks (you have to carry your peddel down to the water) and discovert the beautifull Golfo Dulce bay. At the end of our stay Carlos helpt us with booking a tour from Siepre to the Corcovado park by boat and the reservation for our next hotel. helpfull man.

I would highly recommend Suital Lodge for anyone looking for a true rainforest experience. The cabins are uniquely designed and very comfortable. If you don't want bugs just keep your lights off after dark. We did not have a car and spent three days exploring the property which was quite strenuous. The beach is nice and we booked a panga tour with the next door neighbours which was well worth it. I caught a red snapper that fed everone at dinner that night. The meals were excellent and we enjoyed the company of Carlos, his daughter and the other guests in a large palapa. Giant frogs, a tarantula and thunder storms added to the fun.

We traveled to Costa Rica at the end of May. After a night in San Jose we flew to Puerto Jiminez then took the bus to Suital. The bus ride was unexpectedly pleasant and dirt cheap. We used the bus again and were very pleased on another leg of the trip. We arrived to the complete serenity of the lodge mid-afternoon. Carlos greeted us with Osa, the lodge dog (we met her daughter Canela later) after Osa had noted our arrival. He introduced us to our cabin (blue--farthest from the dining/gathering area and great view into the jungle), told us when dinner was (always 6:30) and what we were having (fish, if that was OK with us as the other--just 3--had indicated that was fine). Within an hour we were out of our cabin and on the trails. Within minutes we'd seen things we'd never seen before--leaf cutter ants, pale billed woodpeckers, toucans, hummingbirds that are never seen on the US east coast, plants, flowers, just amazing! Dinner was absolutely fantastic--corvina in a light, slightly spicey tomato/onion sauce. Our time on the deck of our cabin before and after dinner was wonderful--just no other way to put it--both nights we were there. Breakfasts were great too--we didn't do lunch, just snacked until dinner and that was fine.

Our fellow guests--2 from Switzerland and one Swiss ex pat from San Jose--were great company and we enjoyed their company at dinner. I suspect in this environment you'd have a great time with just about anyone because it is all about what you did and what you saw. All of it is puncuated with Carlos' insights and experiences. He is a wonderful host, extremely nice, polite, interesting--all you could ask for!

We gave this 5 stars because it was precisely what we'd hoped for. We were wet, dirty and sweaty within minutes of our arrival and that is just what we'd hoped for! We watched bats fly in and out of our window, slept under mosquito netting and drank the warm beer/booze we brough from Puerto Jiminez. We were left alone but never ignored. We had a fantastic place to stay in the jungle. We would go back in a heartbeat!

The trails throughout the property are just unbelievable. We saw all kinds of birds and other wildlife. Pretty much every step of the trails there was something new. We also got our first glimpse of the howler monkeys here. If you don't have a great time here then it is simply not your kind of place. But if you like a great adventure with some great food and company (oh, and hot water shower!) then this is absolutely the right destination!

Room Tip: Blue cabin is at the end of the row of 3 cabins and farthest from the dining/gathering area. We enj...

We were part of the group visiting with Abilene_Birder and also had a great time at Suital. Carlos has constructed the cabins with all comforts - you can even flush your toilet paper which CR veterans will understand is somewhat unique in the country. For those concerned with bugs while sleeping; though Carlos has designed open windows and a bar that opens to the patios, the upper walls of our lodging (in the duplex) were completely screened windows. So, if you want, you can close up and still have plenty of fresh air at night. This way, we didn't use the mosquito nets and had no problems whatsoever. He has also constructed lots of handy shelving.

One note that isn't made clear in the website is that the beach access is somewhat difficult. Be aware that it is a fairly good hike descending a well maintained jungle trail. The trail was a great jungle experience but you probably don't want to head out from your cabin in flip flops. For easier access, we opted to travel to Playa Blanca which is not too distant. There we found numerous Scarlet Macaws and other birds while we enjoyed the seashore.

There is a wonderful cabana for dining that we used as a central gathering place.

This was our third trip to CR and we consider Suital to have been a very unique and wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: If you are going to share the duplex, be sure you know the neighbors well. Fortunately, we were rel...
