This was hands down one of the best trips I've ever taken. It is stunningly beautiful here and actually two trips in one -- one half beach vacation, and one half jungle/wildlife vacation. The Lookout Inn is the perfect place to stay if you want to make the most out of this incredible part of the world. Terry and Katya were the perfect hosts -- fun, friendly and very helpful in arranging our activities and advising on the best places to go and where to see wildlife in their natural habitat. I've travelled in Guatemala and Belize and have never seen as many monkeys in the wild as I did here. Twice we woke up to a band of white face capuchin monkeys playing in the trees outside our room, and on every hike through the jungle we ran across at least one group of monkeys. The solitude in the jungle made it particularly special. No need to jockey for position with loads of other tourists. Quiet, peaceful, amazing!
The beach too was amazing, and we were almost always the only people on it. The Lookout has lounges, chairs and boogie boards, it was a blast.
The inn itself is fabulous and made us feel like we were worlds away. They've done a great job building the rooms and bungalows to make you feel like you're alone in the middle of the jungle, while at the same time making it easy to go to the main area for fantastic meals, drinks and/or just great company. We really looked forward to going up for meals, not only because the food was varied and delicious, but also because we really enjoyed hanging out with Terry and the crew and all of the other travelers. I think it says a lot that nearly everyone we met there were repeat visitors to the Lookout.
And, I have to give a shout out to Margarita, Rocco and Princessa, the friendly canine welcoming committee. If you love dogs, this crew will act as your surrogate pets while away. They often came down with to the beach with us and were so sweet and entertaining, which made it even more special.
I could go on and on but I'll stop here and just say, go! You will have a fantastic time.
