“A great place to enjoy Costa Rica”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2013

Bolita is a place to see the natural world of Costa Rica off the beaten path. I enjoyed great hosts for my time there. If you want to get away from the tourist hordes and enjoy a quite relaxing place this is it. I love being in tune with nature and my needs with what Ron and company have built in this lovely abode on the edge of Corcavado.National Park. Here is a way to see a lot of what the park offers without the hassle of setting up a trip into the actual park.

Room Tip: Only a few rooms, I was woofing and still had a nice place to sleep. This is Costa Rica and bugs we...

It was really nice to stay in such as beautiful and calm place like Bolita is. We came there because wanted to visit Corcovado. Bolita has a great lication ( near the Park border), so you can see the same wildlife like in the National Park, but cheaper and less public. The trails were excelent! We woke up in the early morning and walked around the jungles ( waterfall and river on the back way - awesome). We lived in a private room ( for couples) and it was very comfortable. Kitchen and showers were clean and had all nessesary equipment. You can walk all day long or just lay in gammake and listen the sounds of nature. But the main thing is that in Bolita you feel like in home.Ron is very hospitable and kind. I hope we'll come back to Bolita next year.

If you want to see (and listen to) real nature,
if you want to watch the animals in their certain surrounding,
if you want to swim in rivers, instead of using an artifical swimming pool,
if you want to hike by yourself, instead of taking (and paying for) a guide,
if you love to wake up in the early morning and see the sunrise, right from your sleeping place,
if you want to move your body and breath this wonderful air, instead of ´working out´ in a boring fitness palace,
if you want to enjoy the silence, far away from the over-touristic places,
if you want to spend a little time at a very special place,
(take enough time, maybe you would love to stay longer)
if you want to enjoy cooking and taking a shower in a very beatiful way,
(this place is very good organized and very well equiped, the stuff is extremely friendly)
if you want to make your trip to Costa Rica unforgettable;

THAN YOU REALLY SHOULD NOT MISS BOLITA !!!

Take a look, and enjoy !

Fantastic spot. Went for a few days and stayed 18. Well made paths wind around creeks and waterfalls.Lots of birds and sundry wildlife wandering about. Has a decent kitchen. Very, very highly recommended for budget travellers looking for a stay amongst nature.

Bolita is a modest little lodge in the middle of the most diverse jungle in Costa Rica. As a person with much passion for wildlife conservation biology, this was the most exciting place to have stayed during my entire 3 months in Costa Rica. I will admit, I was a bit ill prepared for such a journey. The only real discomfort I faced during my time here was not having the foresight to bring along exciting groceries from the town of Puerto Jimenez (the local groceries don't have the widest selection). However, after a little while I grew accustomed to the simple and healthy diet available there. It was also quite an adventure to locate. In 2011, at least, knowing some Spanish made it a bit easier to find. But the "collective bus" (which is really just a pickup truck with some benches in the back) was part of the excitement in finding Bolita. I stayed for a week with a friend and took in many of the pleasures of the surrounding jungle-- the sound of howler monkeys in the morning, the various trails and waterfalls, and a rare sighting of the Terciopelo snake! Ron was a great host with fun stories and helpful advice. In retrospect, I had no idea just how special this place was when I visited. Looking back on my travels, it was the most enchanting and magical place I had ever been. I would suggest going with at least one close friend (or partner), bringing along plenty of books and art supplies, bringing some of the foods that excite you most (or at least some good spices), and really dedicating a good amount of time to exploring this place.

Bolita is the best option to experience everything the jungle has to offer, backpackstyle. It's on the border of Corcovado Park, which means you get to see the same wildlife and nature, without being restricted to a guide or an organised tour.

It's not just a hostel, it has quite a few beautiful trails, which will keep you busy for at least 2/3 days. The trails are great, if you're not too scared (or drunk), but it leads you to lookout points, waterfalls, etc. With the map they provide you it's easy to explore the trails, you more or less know how long it will take you and you won't get lost. We saw monkey's, a deer, tucans, macaws, frogs, butterfly's and so on. After hiking, you go back to the house, to eat, relax and sleep. Waking up with the sounds of the birds and monkey's is the best.

The house itself is great, comfortable beds, big kitchen, showers, toilets. You just need to bring your own food and there is no electricity (no fridge), so you have to be a bit creative in what to eat. Lots of fruit, pasta, tuna, soup, etc. Water from the tap is the best I've tasted in CR.

To put it short, this was one of the highlights during our trip to CR/Panama. Great peaceful place to go with a limited budget.

Recently I travelled to Costa Rica and easily one of the highlights of the trip was staying at Bolita. Tucked away just outside Puerto Jimenez and just under Parque Corcovado, Bolita provides a legit jungle experience. Far enough away from society to relax and equipped with proper toilets, great shower, and a surprisingly well maintained kitchen set up, it is easy to see why my friend and I extended our stay here. As for sleeping arrangements, the tree fort style hostel offers dorm-style multi-bed sections. Although they are only mattresses, I had no issue getting a great sleep in the fresh air. On top of that, the land is surrounded by hiking trails to beautiful spots all over the property, including waterfalls, lookouts, and access to the national park. I definitely suggest checking this place out if you are in the area.

Room Tip: There is a private room for couples.
