“Amazing trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for 11 nights. The hotel beautiful and staff is very helpful. I really recommend this place. The breakfast is just amazing, and it has like its own playa with no tourists. If you go to Puerto Jimenez you should really stay here!

This was my second visit to Agua Dulce, the first time in February 2013, and most recently during the last week of January this year.

After spending nearly 20 vacations in Costa Rica since 2001, and staying in many, many hotels across the country, including the 5 star luxury resorts up along the Guanacaste coast — with golf courses, personal concierge, etc., Agua Dulce Beach Resort has now become our #1 favorite hotel in Costa Rica.

None of the other hotels we’ve stayed at in Costa Rica over the years can compare to Agua Dulce for overall experience, happiness factor and value. Truly, none can compare with Agua Dulce. I'll be specific: there has been no other hotel where the price was right; I could walk out the door and be in the ocean or in the pool within 60 seconds; there are more than enough opportunities to see the animals that Costa Rica is famous for — some right outside the door; the ocean (Gulf) is always available for a swim, sometimes so calm that you forget Costa Rica's reputation as a surfing haven, yet sometimes the surf comes up just enough that you can have a fun ride on a boogie or surf boarding. And the food at the restaurant is better than just about any restaurant in Puerto Jimenez, and actually, better than most of the hundreds of restaurants I've dined at in Costa Rica over the past 13 years since our first trip.

Yet, the thing that stands out most about Agua Dulce is the phenomenal service of the entire staff, from the maintenance and landscape guys to the housekeepers to the waiters and waitresses and kitchen team, the management group — and really, everyone that works at Agua Dulce. The staff has come together so much over the past year, into a cohesive team. This difference from a year ago was the most noticeable change, and so positive. Kudos to the General Manager, Carlos Apuy, who was brought in a little over a year ago by the owners to run the hotel. Carlos has done a phenomenal job at creating a friendly, fun, relaxing and safe hotel. In an area of Costa Rica that is far off the beaten path, Carlos has helped the management team in transforming this hotel and the results are palpable.

Now the details of our most recent stay: last year we stayed in one of the pool front rooms. This year, we decided to try the oceanfront 1 bedroom bungalows, and we were thrilled. The beds are very comfortable (as were the pool front), there's minimal noise except for the sound of the water lapping the shoreline and scarlet macaws in the almond trees lining the property. There is literally no one between you and the water at night. And during the day time, there might be a couple of people on the same beach as it is very secluded. The beach area in front of the hotel is very safe, as the hotel is there and at night it has security guards constantly making the rounds (although the hotel is literally almost at the “end of the road”, so there are very few people who come to it that aren't guests).

We spent part of every day on the beach, reading, swimming, boogie boarding, RELAXING. We ate lunch at the restaurant several days, and also ate lunch from our own refrigerator that we had stocked from the local supermarket in the town of Puerto Jimenez.

Agua Dulce is a short, 10 minute drive from the town center, so if you want to leave the resort it’s easy. They also have bikes and boogie boards for use by the guests.

The airport is close to Agua Dulce (although not too close – you can’t here the small planes); and it’s also a reasonable drive down an almost fully paved road from Quepos.

The hotel restaurant has a nice variety of foods, from appetizers, salads and entrees ranging from fresh caught local fish to excellent meats and pasta. The room rate includes a full, real breakfast, cooked to order (not a buffet.)

Another favorite part of my trip to Agua Dulce is the constant visits by the Scarlet Macaws. They are beautiful and often hang out in the Almond trees around the hotel and beach. I also love seeing the parrots arrive in town at dusk, just by the main pier. I was standing under a tree full of parrots and some of their feathers sprinkled down on me like snow! We were also lucky to pick up a Scarlet Macaw feather under the trees at Agua Dulce.

I will always remember this trip as one of my all time favorites – anywhere in the world – most especially the week we spent at Agua Dulce.

Thanks to the management team of owners who continue to invest in the people and property to enhance it for guests, and to Carlos and his team of staff members such as Harry, Minor, Johanna, Janette, Chris and the rest of the crew at Agua Dulce. It was a fantastic experience.

Room Tip: Beachfront bungalows are wonderful - all the rooms are nice and clean. The reservation team will hel...

We stayed 4 nights at the Agua Dulce in Jan and it was one of the nicest places we stayed in Costa Rica. The beach across from the resort was amazing, the rooms were large and very clean and it's just a short gravel road drive into Puerto Jimenez. The food at the restaurant was unremarkable though as well as the service. Our last day there we asked if we could buy a bottle of rum, they quoted an outlandish price so we declined and just ordered a few drinks instead. When it came to check out we noticed that they charged us an exorbitant amount for our drinks. When we pointed that out they apologized sheepishly and re-issued our bill. Make sure you ask for prices of everything before you buy.

We had an opportunity to stay at Blue Osa and Aqua Dulce in late December 2013. Although they are both surrounded by rainforest on three sides, and they are both on a lovely beachfront, the two places are like apples and oranges. . Aqua Dulce has a wonderful endless smooth beachfront to walk, to collect shells, swim, watch beautiful birds, and enjoy. Aqua Dulce also offers excursions into the neighboring area (for a fee).
If you enjoy an open menu, open breakfast, open lunch, and open dinner times, then you will like Aqua Dulce. Aqua Dulce serves a full hot breakfast (including fresh fruit) from 6am to 9am, and the restaurant is open for your pleasure all day until 10pm. The food is ample, fresh, and varied (menu items include vegetarian, chicken, beef, fish, etc -- you can order your fresh fish cooked four different ways!). Aqua Dulce's menu also includes snack food items like ice cream, chips, and sandwiches. if you wish to walk, shop for souvenirs, or have a local meal, Aqua Dulce is only 10 minutes from Puerto Jimenez by Taxi ($10 each way),

If you like air conditioning in 93F+ humid weather then you will like Aqua Dulce. If you also like running (reliable) hot water then you will like Aqua Dulce. We had a great time at Aqua Dulce, costing us about $100 per person per day, including drinks at both lunch and dinner.

Room Tip: If you like very quiet, choose a room in the back, away from the swimming pool.

We are in Costa Rica for 10 days and decided to travel to the Osa Peninsula. The Aqua Dulce is an ideal location to stay - not hurried, no race for chairs by the pool, outstanding service and beautiful surroundings. We stayed in one of the 3 bungalows facing the water front - 2A - and enjoyed the sound of the ocean waves……

The food was superb, service friendly and helpful. We would stay here again in a heart beat. We watched some NFL playoff games with one of the owners Mitch, Chris the marketing guru and a few other great people who were staying there. Nice bar and restaurant location.

Marlin and Harry were great at the bar - they kept the TV on late one night so I could drink some cold ones and watch the last of an NFL game….

It is an absolutely gorgeous spot.

Room Tip: You can see beautiful Macaws, woodpeckers and other birds at breakfast in the surround trees. Bring...

We stayed here for a night on our way through the Osa Peninsula, and it was a great way to relax after a bit of adventure. The resort has spacious, clean rooms with nice hot showers, a lovely little swimming pool, great beachfront access, and a restaurant on site. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. No complaints!

Situated directly on a long strand of endless palm lined beach and the pristine Golfo Dulce, lies Agua Dulce. A true hidden gem on the Osa Peninsula. My husband, our 13 yr. old daughter and I stayed a week while my husband was there to fly a twin otter seaplane for work. We loved our experience there! From waking to the sound of the Howler Monkeys to the mesmorizing Scarlet Macaws flying over your head, this was a true paradise. Horseback riding on the beach, zip lining through the rainforest canopy, yoga on the beach, dolphin tours in the Golfo Dulce were some of the many activities that Ginnette and Mario (front desk) were happy to make the arrangements. A morning of yoga on the beach with Natalie was the perfect way to start the day, she was lovely. The pool is heavenly with it's swim up pool bar and we loved conversation with Rebecca who served us exotic tropical fruit cocktails and smoothies. The restaurant was excellent. Every morning the staff would arrive around 5: 00 a.m. to prepare a nutritious and delicious breakfast buffet. Eddie was always happy to serve us. I am still craving the heuvos rancheros and fresh tropical fruits. I cannot forget to mention our friend, Marlon (bartender/waiter extroidonaire), who took such good care of my daughter and her local friends at lunch and my husband and our flight crew at dinner. The three course meals were excellent every time. Everything was prepared from scratch that day, even the bread! The fish, chicken and beef were consistently grilled to perfection, the vegetable sides were tasty and fresh, and the desserts (like the coconut flan or mango cheesecake) were a heavenly finish. Marlo worked very hard and did a phenomenal job pleasing everyone. Hats off to the staff in the kitchen as well! I don't know their names, however, they did a great job preparing food. The maid services were also very good with our rooms and laundry. A great big thanks to Chris Langos, marketing director of Agua Dulce, for hooking us up with this amazing retreat. We had a great time and loved every minute of our stay! Chantal Gaasrud, Southbury, CT
