Recently spent 4 days in this hotel on the Osa Peninsula. Great location for watching scarlet macaws that regularly fly down to eat beach almonds in front of the hotel. Has a rough road to get into town from hotel but you could easily just spend your day on the beach and at the pool.
Rooms were very comfortable, great views, clean. Restaurant wasn't great so we went into town and found great restaurants.
Price was excellent.

My family stayed at Agua Dulce about one month ago and I wish we were still there! The beach is just steps away, where you can walk for miles, splash in the pools at low tide or simply enjoy the waves. We stayed in one of the balcony pool suites which was clean and comfortable. We were traveling with our 14month old, and because they had another family staying with a small child we did not have a crib the first night. However, when the second night came around we walked into our room after a dip in the pool to find our very own pack in play! Turns out one of the staff members had made a special ferry trip to Golfito just to purchase the crib for our stay! Our visit was relaxing. We started each day with a wonderful breakfast buffet. One day we took a quick taxi back to town to get some snacks for our rooms, but we always made our way back to the resort restaurant for dinner and a fabulous margarita. Each staff member was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, we even got to meet the owner Mitch who let us take the pack in play to our next destination at Cabo Matapalo for a whole extra week! He sealed the deal further by sending us off with a cute stuffed bear for our boy Riley. I hope to return someday and have another wonderful stay.

Very nice location on this beautiful and gigantic black sand beach 2 miles out of town. the rooms are very clean and the property very well-kept. Do not miss walking around, lots of wildlife !!! we went for a 8 miles walk on the beach going south, and it is gorgeous, wild with savanna and jungle right there, a few shallow rivers to cross (always watch), truly a great relaxing location. Great service and very polite staff.

We stayed here for 11 nights. The hotel beautiful and staff is very helpful. I really recommend this place. The breakfast is just amazing, and it has like its own playa with no tourists. If you go to Puerto Jimenez you should really stay here!

This was my second visit to Agua Dulce, the first time in February 2013, and most recently during the last week of January this year.

After spending nearly 20 vacations in Costa Rica since 2001, and staying in many, many hotels across the country, including the 5 star luxury resorts up along the Guanacaste coast — with golf courses, personal concierge, etc., Agua Dulce Beach Resort has now become our #1 favorite hotel in Costa Rica.

None of the other hotels we’ve stayed at in Costa Rica over the years can compare to Agua Dulce for overall experience, happiness factor and value. Truly, none can compare with Agua Dulce. I'll be specific: there has been no other hotel where the price was right; I could walk out the door and be in the ocean or in the pool within 60 seconds; there are more than enough opportunities to see the animals that Costa Rica is famous for — some right outside the door; the ocean (Gulf) is always available for a swim, sometimes so calm that you forget Costa Rica's reputation as a surfing haven, yet sometimes the surf comes up just enough that you can have a fun ride on a boogie or surf boarding. And the food at the restaurant is better than just about any restaurant in Puerto Jimenez, and actually, better than most of the hundreds of restaurants I've dined at in Costa Rica over the past 13 years since our first trip.

Yet, the thing that stands out most about Agua Dulce is the phenomenal service of the entire staff, from the maintenance and landscape guys to the housekeepers to the waiters and waitresses and kitchen team, the management group — and really, everyone that works at Agua Dulce. The staff has come together so much over the past year, into a cohesive team. This difference from a year ago was the most noticeable change, and so positive. Kudos to the General Manager, Carlos Apuy, who was brought in a little over a year ago by the owners to run the hotel. Carlos has done a phenomenal job at creating a friendly, fun, relaxing and safe hotel. In an area of Costa Rica that is far off the beaten path, Carlos has helped the management team in transforming this hotel and the results are palpable.

Now the details of our most recent stay: last year we stayed in one of the pool front rooms. This year, we decided to try the oceanfront 1 bedroom bungalows, and we were thrilled. The beds are very comfortable (as were the pool front), there's minimal noise except for the sound of the water lapping the shoreline and scarlet macaws in the almond trees lining the property. There is literally no one between you and the water at night. And during the day time, there might be a couple of people on the same beach as it is very secluded. The beach area in front of the hotel is very safe, as the hotel is there and at night it has security guards constantly making the rounds (although the hotel is literally almost at the “end of the road”, so there are very few people who come to it that aren't guests).

We spent part of every day on the beach, reading, swimming, boogie boarding, RELAXING. We ate lunch at the restaurant several days, and also ate lunch from our own refrigerator that we had stocked from the local supermarket in the town of Puerto Jimenez.

Agua Dulce is a short, 10 minute drive from the town center, so if you want to leave the resort it’s easy. They also have bikes and boogie boards for use by the guests.

The airport is close to Agua Dulce (although not too close – you can’t here the small planes); and it’s also a reasonable drive down an almost fully paved road from Quepos.

The hotel restaurant has a nice variety of foods, from appetizers, salads and entrees ranging from fresh caught local fish to excellent meats and pasta. The room rate includes a full, real breakfast, cooked to order (not a buffet.)

Another favorite part of my trip to Agua Dulce is the constant visits by the Scarlet Macaws. They are beautiful and often hang out in the Almond trees around the hotel and beach. I also love seeing the parrots arrive in town at dusk, just by the main pier. I was standing under a tree full of parrots and some of their feathers sprinkled down on me like snow! We were also lucky to pick up a Scarlet Macaw feather under the trees at Agua Dulce.

I will always remember this trip as one of my all time favorites – anywhere in the world – most especially the week we spent at Agua Dulce.

Thanks to the management team of owners who continue to invest in the people and property to enhance it for guests, and to Carlos and his team of staff members such as Harry, Minor, Johanna, Janette, Chris and the rest of the crew at Agua Dulce. It was a fantastic experience.

Room Tip: Beachfront bungalows are wonderful - all the rooms are nice and clean. The reservation team will help you choose the room that's just right for you.
