This is truly a terrible hotel. In fact, I really don't understand why this got such great reviews and has earned a Tripadvisor Award of Excellence. It must only be because of the location.
From the moment we arrived we felt very unwelcome.
The hotel is run down, the rooms are dated, the bathroom simply horrible, the restaurant is terrible, truly terrible, the people that work there really don't care what so ever. And that's not only the people in the restaurant, it's almost everybody that works at the hotel.
They are probably ridiculously underpaid because they don't care, and that's putting it mildly.
At 5:45AM the gardeners start talking very loudly near their toolshed (1 meter from our bedroom), during the day they just sat down on our porch to look at their phones or talk. While we were in the room. We hardly had any privacy.
The cleaning staff only wanted to clean the room if it fitted their schedule, not ours. When our baby was sleeping too long in their opinion, they were throwing angry looks at us and made it very clear that they were unhappy about the fact that they had to wait with the cleaning of the room. Making us very uncomfortable.
They just don't care about the customers.
The breakfast was the worst we've had during our extensive travels around Costa Rica, and that's OK if you have the feeling they do it with love but in this case they just don't care. We had to ask for a simple bowl six times, we wanted eggs but they didn't want to make them the way we like them (a simple omelet with only eggs!), we didn't get fruit for our 1-year old because they didn't consider him to be a full person, even though we had food stamps for each breakfast. Again we had to ask several times and when they finally brought the things we'd requested they just threw it on the table.
I would never go back there, but apart from the bad things there are some good things; the location on Golfo Dulce is magical, the pool is good and they have bicycles you can take for free.
