Three of us arrived at Cabinas Tropicales after randomly following the signs in town. Marc promptly welcomed us with a warm smile and thorough information on anything we could possibly want to know about how to explore the area in the best way.

Cabinas Tropicales is safe, clean, and beautiful with spacious rooms, warm water, wireless internet, and a/c for a great price. The hostel has an open air kitchen with a refrigerator and stoves to use, surrounded by beautiful green plants and trees so a lot of beautiful birds come here to feed, including Rufus the hummingbird! Marc's attention to detail with the fresh-picked bouquet of flowers added to the charm of the space.

We spent one night here in July, the off season. The rooms are arranged around a central courtyard with picnic table and cooking facilities. Another group staying there was up late cooking, drinking, and being very loud. Good management would have asked them to quiet down. At least post signs. We were also unhappy with the checkin process. No one we met introduced themselves, smiled, or welcomed us. A young boy showed us the rooms and gave us the keys. An adult who I presume was the owner blurted out to us later in the day that he usually took payment when guests checked in. Ok. But no one asked for payment when we checked in so how were we supposed to know. And if you wanted to be paid, why not say, "would you mind paying now? we usually collect payment at checkin." Internet was broken most of the day. There is AC but it needed to have the circuit breaker turned on. When I went looking for someone to help figure out why it wasn't working, the same adult male helped me. He did ask if I needed help. I told him the issue. After that I don't think he said anything, just went and turned on the circuit breaker. Again, I think he was the owner, but he never introduced himself and never smiled. The rooms are clean and basic. The mattresses are poor, though not for this budget in Costa Rica.

Hi we appreciate your review and thank you for visiting us for the night.
I have never had a bad report on other clients being loud. I live on site and all clients are informed that if there s a problem just knock on my door.
As far as the check in I am sorry that I did not meet you at the gate as I always do and introduce myself. At the time of your stay I had an accident which entailed 22 stitches in my heel on my foot. I was not able to walk for 4 days . My 13 yr old son who has been around the hotel business all his life was helping me out with check in and the clients. Sorry for any inconvenience caused to you. With all the hotels I have managed and visited you either pay or present your credit card on file which you never did as you were asked to pay but you need to get money from the ATM which is ok . Your account problem is caused by power Serge's which happens daily here in 3 rd world countries and caused the breaker to shut off ....I live on site and never received a complaint when you were here??? Sorry for any inconvenience caused to you.. pura vida

My friend and I stayed here the night before our hike to Corcovado and the night after our hike. Mark and Lee were accommodating, friendly and extremely helpful. I felt comfortable and loooooved the outdoor shower. When I go back to Puerto Jimenez, I will definitely be back to the Cabinas Tropicales.

Gracias amigos!

Room tip: ask for the outdoor shower :)

A safe, clean and peaceful place to stay in Puerto Jiminez, with a beautiful outdoor kitchen. We hung out the first day, enjoying the hammocks, hummingbirds and other birds passing by. Later that day, Mark helped us organizing our trip to Corcovado. He knows the best guides and organizes everything right away for you. We had a guide named Bolivar, a very good, friendly and passionate guide!

We could leave our luggage in Cabinas Tropicales during our trip to Corcovado. The only downside: we agreed to stay another night when we returned from Corcovado, but when we arrived he told us he was overbooked so we had to change hotels. A bit of a disappointment, nevertheless, Mark had already arranged a room elsewhere of comparable quality. Don't hesitate, you're safe and well informed at Mark's place!
