“Great accommodation in remote town”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

We stayed a total of 3 nights in Cabinas Jimenez on either end of our hike in Corcovado Natn'l Park. Both rooms were very clean and pleasant. Although there is occasional "air traffice" that can be heard from the small airport nearby, this location is actually further from the airport than any of the other town accommodations.

The small pool, A/C, and television were nice bonuses as we learned that many accommodations do not offer this.

Our room offered a beautiful view of the Golfo Dulce from our lovely porch, and visitors are welcome to use the Cabinas Jimenez bikes and kayaks to move about town or explore the nearby mangroves.

Although some people mentioned difficulties with phone contact, our reservations were made entirely through email and all replies were timely and provided very helpful information. The staff were also friendly and helpful with any questions we had upon arrival.

Having travelled extensively in many countries and accommodations, we are happy recommend Cabinas Jimenez.

Room Tip: We were willing to pay a bit more for a waterfront cabina and a family cabina. Definitely worth the...

My cousin and I stayed here for four nights, checking out Oct. 4, 2013. We had originally booked the bungalow but John showed us the Rancho as an alternative and we liked it better so switched rooms. The only downside to staying in the room was that there is no place to hang up clothes - no closets or hangers of any kind, so we had to lay our clothes on the top bunk bed (nobody was sleeping there). We were very pleased with the service we got from Leah – who went out of her way to assist us. We didn’t have 6 people to do the boat tour, so she arranged a private boat tour with a man named Marvin who took us to the animal sanctuary. She also made arrangements one night when it was raining to get food delivered at a very reasonable price. She was helpful and friendly and I can’t say enough good things about her. We had a negative experience however when checking out. We asked the receptionist on duty that morning (whose name I didn’t get) to call us a cab to take us to SANSA airfield for our morning flight. She didn’t realize I understood Spanish and I overhead her say sarcastically to the “taxicab” driver that “the little princesses need a ride to the airport.” We were shocked because our interactions with the staff had always been polite and we tipped the maids well, so we felt her attitude was uncalled for. The person she called was not a metered cab driver and he overcharged us for the ride back to the airfield. Unfortunately, the hostile attitude on the part of this rude staff member spoiled what had been a pleasant experience for us.

Really enjoyed our time at this hotel. We stayed 3 nights in the Rancho #1. Beautiful view of the Gulf from the large deck. Enjoyed seeing the Red Lored parrots fly by daily. Many birds can be seen from the balcony. Nice little pool where we met some very interesting travelers. Mini frig was handy for drinks and microwave for coffee. We used the free kayaks for fishing and sightseeing. We found dolphins about 1/4 mile south, just off the small beach. The tide is really extreme so you must be mindful of time when using the kayaks. Used the free bikes to get to the larger grocery store, explore town and visit the crocodile habitat.

John made arrangements for a 1/2 day nature hike tour to Matapalo with Andy as our tour guide. We saw three kinds of monkeys, a sloth, boa, lizards and many birds. We opted to hike up to the waterfalls- rather strenuous, but very pretty. Very nice tour. We also went on the Fina Kobo Chocolate Farm tour. It was interesting but felt it was over-priced for the short tour and small fruit/chocolate buffet. Our tour guide was difficult to understand. If you do this tour, go in the morning when it is cooler. You can take a bus to get there.

Hotel Pros:
Good value, charming, convenient location near town. Walking distance to grocery store and restaurants. We would definitely stay again on next trip.

Cons:
No place to store clothes, we rigged a clothesline so we could hang a few things, Wi-Fi in our room was very weak so we had to go to the office to get service.

This is very nice place to stay, however reaching the front desk through phone is impossible. Tried 2735-5090 for two days straight and no one answered. How come a hotel does not answer phone calls?

Good luck trying to find a spot here, its good as long as there are people working here.

My wife and I visited Puerto Jimenez for 3 nights and stayed at Cabinas Jimenez. The hotel sits on the bay and is waterfront property, meaning there is virtually no beach. However, at low tide it becomes beach front property as you can walk out several yards on dry sand. We stayed in one of the rooms that was on the water and it had a lovely view. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. They do not serve food but you can grab breakfast at a great soda 1 block from the hotel. There is a beach just a few blocks away that you can visit. The hotel provides bicycles and kayaks free for your use. While there we saw a Scarlet McCaw and several parrots. There were other sea birds that I can't identify. The Osa peninsula has a lot to offer and is becoming the go to place in Costa Rica and Puerto Jimenez is a great location. It is a long drive from San Jose but you can fly to Puerto Jimenez inexpensively.

We stayed at the Cabinas Jimenez in August. We did a three day tour through the Corcovado National Park and wanted to stay in a decent hotel to prepare before the trip and to relax afterwards. We stayed one or two days longer than planned at the Cabinas, because we enjoyed it there so much. The staff is really friendly and helpful and the town is really laid back and relaxed. There is a very nice pizza place right by the soccer field down the road. The pool is pretty small, but that was not important for us.

We arrived for 2 nights and stayed for 6.
What a lovely place (we got Rancho #2). One morning while having breakfast we saw dolphins in the golfo dulce from our terrace.
Shortly after we arrived there was a drop out of the internet connection on Osa Peninsula and I asked John about it. John said "You're on vacation!" and that's what summarizes best this perfect week at Cabinas Jimenez.

Room Tip: Rancho #2 is best (in our opinion).
