Perfectly situated near town but tucked away for a bit of peace and quiet. The rooms are nice and clean, have decent aircon (it is sooooooo hot in PJ!) and have a lovely view over the lagoon.
PS: If you fancy a boat trip, try Toboga tours - you can find the details in the Lonely Planet guide.
PPS: The best place to eat in PJ is the little Italian called Il Gardiniera. Some of the best food I've had outside Italy!

My husband and I spent the first 3 nights of our honeymoon here before heading into the Corcovado National Park. Our room was clean, sunny, and had a lovely view of the gulf and the beautiful landscaping. It was nice to have a fridge and coffee maker in the room, too. The front desk guy, Juan Carlos, was very helpful in arranging tours and he patiently answered the many questions we asked him. The CJ had sea kayaks for their guests to use and we enjoyed taking them out in the gulf. They also let us store our luggage with them while we were backpacking in Corcovado, which was a great convenience. I would definately stay here again.

Cabinas Jimenez offers a selection of affordable accommodations ranging from rooms to individual bungalows along the shore in Puerto Jimenez. My husband and i spent the night in a lovely bungalow with a/c, mini fridge, coffee maker, tiled hot water shower and adorable private deck overlooking the harbor with views back across the Golfo Dulce. The beds were very comfortable. The owners Chris and John were very friendly and helpful and have done a wonderful job improving the property since they acquired it. Because there is no restaurant on the premises, it was suggested to us that we order a pizza from the newly opened gourmet pizza place and that it would be delivered hot to us--we did just that and sat on our deck enjoying the evening as we dined. By the way, the owner of the pizza place is a delightful young Italian, and our pizza was fabulous. If you're interested in fishing or scenic boat tours the owners can set that up for you, too. All in all a delightful oasis in a town most people just breeze through on their way to the Corcovado National Park.

My wife and I stayed at Cabines Jimenez late February and early March, 2009, along with her brother and his wife. He all loved the place. The cabines we had, numbers 2 and 10, were spacious, well air conditioned and just steps away from the water.
We had a lovery view of the golfo dulce and the fishing boats out front.
The town of Puerto Jimenez is just a short walk away. Great restaurants, grocery stores and souvenir shops. We stayed for our first 8 days in Costa Rica and then headed north to see a bit more of this beautiful country. Before we left we made our reservations for next year with John.
Both John(the owner) and vodka Chris(boat captain and expert on all matters about Costa Rica) were a pleasure to deal with.
Anyone thinking about going to Puerto Jimenez or Cabines Jimenez and requiring any info can e-mail me at BurkeT@gmail.com.
I will be adding some pictures as soon as I figure out how to do it.

The experience of staying at Cabinas Jimenez was just wonderful. The best view in town, all from our private cabina. We also took the tour offered at the hotel. It was one of the best tours I have ever been on. We saw dolphins and visited a wildlife sactuary. John runs a great place with a friendly, helpful staff. Its a short walk to town. I would go back in a minute. Say hi to Oso for us.

Overpriced, tiny little room. It was a shame we had prebooked this as I would never have paid $60 a night having seen the room in advance. I´m currently staying in a hotel elsewhere in Costa Rica that charges $14 for a twin room and it is much bigger than our room in Cabinas Jimenez.

There was no space to open our small cases and we had to squeeze between the two beds to get into the room. The airconditioner was bizarrely placed in the bathroom and the bedroom door was incredibly difficult to open.

We were really really disappointed with our experience there and felt ripped off. The public areas are nice (hammocks looking out over the bay, a covered area where you could have a picnic) but not worth the money.

I first stayed at Cabinas Jimenez with my husband and my parents who were visiting us from the states. We live in Costa Rica. We could not have picked a better location or nicer people to stay with. Close to everything, clean, and the view to die for. We have already returned with other friends visiting from the states. It is the best little get away, even if you live here....I would love to keep it a secret but as a former hotel owner I must share...GO!
