“Location, attention, and comfort on the Golfo Dulce in the Osa Peninsula”
Reviewed 11 March 2010

If you want to be on the gulf and close to the pueblo of Puerto Jimenez, this is THE BEST place to stay by far. My small group of 7 travelers were very pleased with our stay earlier this month.

The cabinas are Super clean and comfortable, very reasonably priced, and have awesome views of the incredible Golfo Dulce. John, Chris, and Juan Carlos will bend over backwards to make you comfortable and assist you. They are the shining stars that make this a class act. They can suggest and book tours, make recommendations for meals, adventures, fishing guides and surf spots. My group spent a 1/2 day on their boat, La Sirena, for a day snorkel and gulf tour that is a MUST DO for first time visitors. Enjoy the best the Osa has to offer with John and his crew.

This was one of the nicest places we stayed on our entire trip, its a budget/mid price range hotel, but its kepy up really well, right on the ocean, great pool, hammocks, free kayaks. Rooms were to American standards, which is very hard to find in Costa Rica. Secured Parking Lot Too!

The location is great- we took a water taxi over from Golfito and this place was just a short walk from the dock. The room was exceptional- we had one of the private cabinas (#1) great for a group of friends or a couple with kids. I literally could watch the sunrise from my bed. The deck has amazing view and you are right there on the water. Air conditioning was a big plus. The pool with its jets was the perfect way to soothe my sore muscles from hiking Mt. Chirripo. Loved this place and the front desk staff was super helpful- they are happy to help you with anything and speak great english!

Our ride to Puerto Jimenez was a lot easier then we had read in our travel books. The roads were not a problem at all. There are some gravel roads mostly around where they are replacing bridges. Chris, Juan Carlos and John were all helpful in organizing tours and giving us information. I would recommmend to anyone coming here to make sure you have enough cash as a lot of places in town only accept that form of payment. There is currently only one bank in town that was not working one day so can cause some problems. There is a lot to see and do in this area so don't only plan to stay a few days as you will be disappointed. Corcovado Park was awesome. Make sure to leave early in the morning to start the 3 km walk down the beach to the park entrance. Access to the park is 7:00 a.m. and the walk is about half an hour to the entrance.

We had a wonderful week long stay at the Cabinas Jimenez. The accommodations were great - clean and very comfortable. There were also a number of great amenities provided by the hotel - pool, kayaks, bicycles. The staff was exceptional - very friendly and extremely helpful. They went far out of their way to help with our travel plans and make sure we had a great stay.

Our family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) stayed in Cabinas Jimenez for a week in the #1 Bungalow and #2 Cabina. If you are staying within town, Cabinas Jimenez is by far the best option – it is the only hotel directly on the water, and if you are in rooms #1, #2, or #10 you’ll have beautiful views right from your room and private patio. Guests in the other rooms can go out into the common areas around the pool, hammocks, and the large thatched roof hut which all have views over the water. The location was also convenient with a 5 minute walk to the pier for fishing charters and boats to Golfito, and similar distance to restaurants and the grocery stores.

The rooms were spotlessly clean with comfortable mattresses. Our rooms had a safe, small refrigerator, ceiling fans, and A/C. A few really nice pluses offered by the hotel were: kayaks, a few bikes available for picking up groceries or exploring town, wireless internet, and bottled water. Note that rooms don’t have phones or TVs.

Talk to Chris at the hotel about signing up for activities during your stay. We enjoyed 3 days fishing with Capt Oscar, the La Sirena tour to the wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary, and a fantastic wildlife tour of Matapalo with guide Andy.

Things to remember when packing for your trip: binoculars for viewing the animals, cool clothes (restaurants in town are open air with no A/C), bug spray if you are going hiking, cash if you want to save credit card charges (many places charge 6-10% extra for using credit cards).

There are lots of all-inclusive fishing lodges and Eco-lodges outside of town that charge hundreds per night, but for our money, Cabinas Jimenez is a great value and was a perfect location for starting our daily trips and activities.

The cabinas are not far from the water and that is very nice. The rooms are so-so, the pool
is extremely small. Everything is very tight. But the most unfortunate part of the stay is that the owner, an American who lives in Puerto Rica, is hostile and unfriendly. He creates a very uncomfortable atmosphere, including for his employees. This is not a good place to relax.

Dear Traveler,

As evidenced by our prior reviews, we do not respond to poor reviews. We firmly believe the opinions of our guests on Trip Advisor are an important indication of the hospitality we provide, and we have tremendous respect for this Site. However, we must address misstatement of Facts. The fact is, we are unsure that this reviewer was a guest at Cabinas Jimenez. The facts are that the owner is not from Puerto Rico, and none of the staff at Cabinas Jimenez is from Puerto Rico. The fact is, the owner is from Cape May New Jersey, and has been the owner for years. Our welcome page on our website has also stated this fact for years. We have reached out to this reviewer through this site to find out more specific information. As of the time of this posting we have received no response.
