“Perfect place to escape from the city!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2010

We recently stayed at Cabinas Jimenez for a total of 12 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabinas are cozy and comfortable and the included A/C, coffee maker and mini fridge were wonderful to have in the room. The grounds are well kept and beautiful filled with tropical trees and plants. The staff is ALWAYS available and very helpful. Jon was nice enough to take us out on his boat with a few other guests on a short tour of the Golfo Dulce. It was a nice quiet place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Everything was in walking distance including food, laundry, groceries and Juan Carlos was always available to reccomend somewhere to eat. Our room was cleaned daily. The free use of kayaks and the bikes are a great addition to the hotel. The pool is a wonderful spot to hang out and relax when the tide is low.

Wow, what a disappointment this hotel was! My husband noted that both of the staff members seemed a little incoherent and I smelled the alcohol on their breaths from several feet away. The guy at night wasn't really able to answer any of our questions and had to sit down and just seemed to ramble on about something.

Well, maybe it's just the culture here in Puerto Jimenez? Anyway, lets go on to the room…it was really, really small. Too small for the amount of furniture it had in it. The included A/C unit was mounted in the bathroom for some reason and was regularly turned off at night even though we paid for it (we heard the staff turn off the circuit breakers regularly). The room was only cleaned once in our 3-night stay. Also, there were other guests who regularly smoked pot in the pool area. Not sure about the legality of drug use here, but it's definitely not a place to bring children.

The included use of the bikes and kayaks were a bit of a let-down. The bikes were never available and the kayaks were crappy fiberglass things that were too heavy for us to carry down to the water. The included wifi rarely worked and was not accessible in the room.

I was happy with the plates and silverware they included in the room, and we never had any bug problems. I would seriously consider other accommodations before trusting the good reviews on tripadvisor.

Dear Traveler,

After attempting to contact this Reviewer and the Spouse and receiving no response. And only after submitting husband and wife's reviews for removal or editing by Trip Advisor, have I decided to respond. Trip Advisor agreed with me, and the husbands review has actually been edited from it's original content.

Never, In my 22 years in the service and hospitality industry have I come across two more genuinely unhappy people. I find no reason for anyone to personally attack a property and it's staff in the manner this couple has done, and in this very public forum. They not only attacked us...But most all of the other properties they reviewed!

The language used by this couple in all of their reviews seems purposefully hurtful and mean spirited in its tenor and content. Before they were edited, this couple even went so far as to click and find each others reviews helpful on our page!

We take all our guests reviews very seriously and constantly make changes to improve our property as well as our hospitality and the services that we provide our guests. In fact, we are very proactive about problems by having in room books, and laminates on the inside of every door asking our guests to please tell us if there are any problems or issues we can address, because we want to make their stay as comfortable and carefree as possible. I promise, Cabinas Jimenez welcomes constructive criticism, and we truly take the opinions of our guests to heart.

As for you Traveler, you will have to make up your own mind. Over the years we have had many excellent reviews. I would encourage you to become a member of Trip Advisor. As a member you can view other guests profiles and reviews, as well as contact other members and reviewers directly. Our prior guests who have taken the time to post a review, would also probably be happy to take a moment to answer any questions or concerns you may have about Cabinas Jimenez.

As far as this couples claims, opinions and the words they chose to use...I will choose the high road on this one. To specifically address them would lend validity. I have questioned our staff, as well as personally reached out to this couple regarding each of the allegations, and conclude they are all unfounded.

My son and I stayed at Cabinas Jimenez for 4 days. Our room was exceptionally clean, and was cleaned with loving attention each day. We had a great time going out everyday on the free kayaks the owner provides. He also provides free use of several bicycles he has and that was fun too. We biked all around Puerto Jimenez. John invited us and several other guests to go on his boat to a remote beach. The water was clear and we all jumped into the warm clear water. All staff and other guests were friendly which created a peaceful atmosphere.

Let me start by saying, that my stay at Cabinas Jimenez at the Peninsula de Osa was the most memorable , interesting, adventurous trip of our entire travels to Costa Rica. From the moment we checked in, until we unfortunately had to leave...everything at the hotel was perfect! Our room was spacious, with new comfortable beds, AC, a refridgerator and coffee pot were all great touches. The gardens surrounding the hotel are lush and full of orchids and other interesting flowering plants I had never seen before. The pool, the kayaks and the bikes were great for relaxing and getting out and exploring the cool little town of Jimenez.

Thank you John for your help booking all the tours and your incredible staff. There is lots to do in Puerto Jimenez, horse back riding, canopy tours ,dolphin and whale watching. We took the boat tour operated by the hotel, and we were very lucky to see a humpback whale with its baby and hundreds of spotted dolphins! Thank you capt Greivin! JC was a great source of information, we had a great time playing chess with him. He also took us to Punta Matapalo were the mountain meets the sea, and it seems the wildlife is more concentrated there. With JC we experience an interesting, enjoyable, refreshing, beautiful, laughable and lovely time. Without him we wouldn't have seen this much. From interesting animals to wonderful beaches with unknown waterfalls. We have never seen such a beautiful, diverse array of nature landscapes before, I will always remember the forest reverberatingwith the deep throat roar of the howler monkey troop answering JC. Thank you Juan Carlos you gave us exactly what we ask for, and it will always be a great memory.

We just spent 3 nights at Cabinas Jimenez in Puerto Jimenez and had a very nice experience. Friendly and helpful staff, and nice relaxing atmosphere. Woke up to sun rise and scarlet macaws outside my window avery day. Great and inexpensive food just steps away.
The town has a relaxing atmosphere and is just a 40 min bumpy drive to Matopalo where you can see monkeys and swim in waterfalls. There is also an airstrip we took a 10 min flight into Corcovado's amazing Sirena Station and were completely immersed in a rain forest heaven.
We happily recommend Cabinas Jimenez as a peaceful and friendly place to stay while in the Puerto Jimenez area.

DH and I stayed in a room without an ocean view but it was clean and comfortable. The location within PJ is great - right on the water and not in the center of town. At night we could hear the music from the disco club in the background but otherwise we had great sleep. The service provided by Cabinas Jimenez is excellent - they even let us borrow their kayaks to explore the nearby mangrove estuaries!

This was our fourth time staying at Cabinas Jimenez, the first having been in 2003. We have watched the extraordinary evolution in awe. The one-time non-descript "no-tell motel" at the end of the road has become a delicious, unique tropical paradise, an artistic labor of love perched on the gorgeous Golfo Dulce. We "moved in" for three weeks, settling into the rhythm of leaving early in the mornings to go work on our newly-acquired property and returning before noon to hang out and cool off in the new pool. The comfy open-air lobby became our living room, and we were always made to feel that we were right at home. John, Chris, Juan Carlos and the rest of the staff were simultaneously very responsible/responsive and easy-going, not an easy feat, we're sure. We can't say enough how much we appreciate all the attention to detail these folks put forth to make our long stay seem so short. The use of kayaks and bicycles was a wonderful treat. The fridge and the coffee maker in the room allowed us to greet the dawn over the Golfo in comfy chairs on the patio with our cafe con leche. It doesn't get any better than that! We also really appreciated the way the energy of Cabinas was both peaceful and playful. Quiet contemplation, while watching the macaws fly overhead, was natural and appropriate, but there were times when good, raucous laughter and play were in order (beer bowling at the pool, anyone?). What an amazing balance of everything you need. Cabinas JImenez captured our hearts; you can bet we'll be back next summer!
