We booked a Mangrove swamp tour and the price included lunch at a local restaurant. We were not expecting too much but the tour guide promised us some good local food. I was skeptical as we pulled up to the Best Western Hotel, but a pleasant surprise was in store. The restaurant is on the 3rd floor, and it is partially open to the outside. We had a nice view of the promenade along the ocean and the weather was very nice.
We did not get a menu since the meal was part of the tour, but we did have a choice of chicken or fish. Both dishes were very good and included the meat, white rice, black beans, a local version of cole slaw and a few fried plantains. The food was tasty, nothing fancy but I think I had a good, local meal. Rice and beans could be dressed up with the local salsa, and the coleslaw was a nice, fresh non-mayo version. Dessert was homemade strawberry ice cream, and the mango, smoothie-type drink was awesome. I recommend this restaurant for a good local meal; everybody in the family liked it!
