Residence Inn by Marriott San Jose Escazu
Ranked #1 of 14 Hotels in Escazu

I needed to have test done at Cima Hospital and the Residence Inn is directly behind the hospital within walking distance. Every place we went whether shopping or eating out was no more than 1.5 miles away.

The hotel itself was wonderful, the staff was very helpful. The breakfast was good with lots of choices to choose from, omelet bar, waffles, hot buffet chooses, cereals and fresh fruits and juices. The room had a full kitchen with a 2 burner stove, microwave, full sized refrigerator, dish washer and dining table. There was a desk area, living room area with flat screen TV that could be watched either there or turned to be watched while in bed. There was also a free laundry room for the guest use. The hotel would also arrange to have groceries delivered to you upon request.

Next to the hotel there was a iMax Theater with a food court, and a nice Oyster/Sushi bar. Just down the road was the Pricesmart (like a Costco or Sam's Club), Office Depot and the Multiplaza Mall with the Auto Mercado Grocery store. For the American's visiting you will find familiar products. Just on the other side of the highway is an Outback Steak House that I highly recommend. About a mile and a half away is ChiChi's restaurant which I highly recommend for the potato skins and BBQ ribs. They are famous for there chicken wings but I have never been able to get past the ribs. You can google the name and get the map to find the place, its easy to find.

All in all the trip was very enjoyable and I decided I love Escazu! Every thing is right there. No need to go into San Jose.

When we made our reservation and when we checked in, we were not warned of the construction noise next to the property. Our warning about the noise came when we got to our room and found a small piece of paper informing us about the construction next to the hotel from 6:00 AM to 6:00 from Monday to Saturday.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms on the east side of the hotel.

I stayed at the Residence Inn Escazu for 2 weeks in June. Loved it! The suite had a kitchenette with full-sized refrigerator and dishwasher. Seating area had a loveseat that converted to a sleeper sofa and the TV was on a rotating stand so you could watch from the loveseat or in bed. The laundry room contained 4 washers and 6 dryers all of which were very clean and free of charge, you simply provide the soap/softener which is available for sale near the front desk if you don't want to go shopping. The hotel overall was very well maintained and clean. The breakfast buffet was small but contained a nice variety of foods. The hotel is 1/2 block from the Cineplex with food court and only 1 1/2 blocks from a huge mall with grocery store. Would definitely stay again.

Perfect for extended stays. Has a kitchen in the room where you can cook your own food, or you can have your complementary buffet breakfast downstairs. Daily housekeeping cleans the room very thoroughly.

This is a very clean, new, and comfortable hotel. I've stayed there twice now, once in a Studio with a friend, and once in a Two-Bedroom with my family. After the spaciousness of the Studio, I was a little surprised that the Two-Bdrm wasn't much bigger, only cut up into rooms (and quite a bit more expensive, almost double). Only wish they had a DVD player in the room (or one to borrow from the front desk) for any of the 3(!) TV's in the room. With most of the channels only offered in Spanish, would have been nice to throw on a movie for my kids. Love the kitchenette.

Breakfast is good enough for a free breakfast. Have to agree with the other reviewer, though, the orange juice was awful. Tasted like Tang, with a bad aftertaste.

Good service: We ordered pizza from outside the hotel one night, and when it arrived the front desk called to ask me if we wanted them to pay for it and put in on the room. We thought that was a nice touch. Bad service: The maid forgot to leave a new coffee bag, and I was alone in the room one morning with my two kids sleeping, so couldn't leave. I called the front desk to request a bag, they told me it was no problem, they would send someone up right away. Nobody ever came, which was a bit disappointing, if you need your morning coffee like I do!

We often need to come to San Jose to pick up supplies, so the proximity to the businesses of Escazu/Santa Ana/Rohrmoser, not to mention the best mall in SJ, Pricesmart, Office Depot, IMAX, and CIMA hospital is great. Location is the best selling feature of this hotel!

Notes:
-They do not provide hair dryers or shower caps in the rooms, so be sure to bring those if you need them. Ditto any wine or beer, there is no mini bar or restaurant to buy these items, so stock up before you get there.
-Definitely eat at PRODUCT C (Seafood/Fish Shop/Oyster Bar), one of our favourite restaurants in the country, which is kiddy-corner to the hotel across the courtyard in the IMAX building, a one-minute walk. (Leaps and bounds better than Saga, right across from the hotel.)

I booked this hotel at $160 /night because the rate included breakfast and free-internet. This is a new hotel and it is OK, however the breakfast is really, really poor. I spent three nights and the breakfast was always the same, just scrambled eggs, three kind of fruit and waffles. The orange juice was not natural but from the bottle. For a hotel that is in a country that produce great fruits at low cost, they should serve 100% recent-squeezed orange juice. There are not waitress, just people to pick up the dirty plates from your table. You have to help yourself and serve everything, even your coffee.
I could booked a better hotel for the same rate including a real breakfast. The swimming pool is a joke, just a pretty small, small 2x3 mts swimming pool. They just provided a small shampoo and an small conditioner.
