“Great hostel & staff in an excellent location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2014

For the price (8000 Colones, or 16 USD; single), you can not beat it. You are right in the center of town. Two markets and street vendors allow travelers the option of cooking a nice meal in the high quality kitchen. The rooms are clean and simple, and the showers have hot water. A rare luxury for backpacker priced accommodation in Central America. The security is very good for the center of San Jose. The manager (Thais) is very hospitable and reliable and the cleaning staff (especially Kenia) do a great job. I miss you guys :) Scotty. P.S. put in a fitness and recreational room in that one big empty space!

Room Tip: They have different rooms for a slight increase in cost.

You cannot find a cheaper place in San José with the amazing location of this hostel. The place is simple and without any decoration, the beds are small and the appearence is not like a warm place, but you can have a private room for US$14 dollars, in front of the central market, where you can have very good food for US$ 4 dollars, walking distance from the main bus stations and it is close to museums, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and more.

It seems very safe, the front desk is staffed 24 hours and the staff is very friendly and reliable.

If you are looking for a beautiful and cozy place, you have to go to other place, but if you just need a good place to sleep and a great location this is a great option.

was there last night for maybe 30th time in 25 years. great location, close to all bus stops and downtown. you can walk everywhere. rooms are spartan with nice bath and shower (hot water) at the end of the hall. very clean and safe. rooms just went up to $14 (a steal for San Jose). The shared kitchen is no longer a deal, they now charge a $2 cooking fee which is ridiculous since you can get a meal in mercado central (right across the street) for $4. there are no guests allowed in the rooms so better security. you have to be buzzed in through 2 gates. a great value for anyone coming or going to the airport or exploring downtown (lots of museums, theater, play houses and parks). close to some great tico bars los condes and embajada, cold beer and cheap bocas.

Room Tip: ask for a room away from the balcony. it can get noisy

i spent 3 nights here because it was in front of the central market, and it was the cheapest i found in downtown San Jose, DUDE YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY a TAXI, but this place scare the hell out of me because looks like a mental institution but you have internet, kitchen, i stayed at the cheapest dorm room 12 dollars, San Jose is a expensive city you know, hot water in the shower, the cleanest in central america , i think , friendly staff, just bring your cervezas imperial at night if you are by yourself , to avoid nightmares because this place looks like madhouse, but in general it;s a good place brother, lemme tell you...
P.S. a little bit noisy, you hear children crying, couples fighting ,you name it.

Room Tip: you just bring you a couple of beers and you sleep out like a child

This is the second time I have stayed here and probably the last. The central location makes it an easy walking distance from the Caribe Sur bus terminal and even shorter distance to the bus to the airport. This saves about $30 in taxi fares. We had a private room with private bath for $30. Very very basic but clean. They advertised free coffee 24/7 and free toast and jam in the morning. They had neither, and the lady on duty did not seem to care. Most hostels we have stayed at in San Jose provide coffee and breakfast and are still in this price range or even a little bit less.

Room Tip: The dorm rooms cost less, no extra value in private room.

Really good price for San José, The rooms are OK, the showers & toilets really good. Perfect location (center town), really close to most of the Bus terminals.
But it is really noisy, and the kitchen is crap, oily, durty, and no equipement at all to cook...

Good for one night but no much more!

I was searching for a place to stay for one night in San Jose, if possible in the middle of the center and that is where this place is located. Was not sure about the hostel considering some of the other reviews, but I decided to check it out, also because a private room is just 14 dollars.

The other guests were a couple of older guys, so it is definately not a backpackers place or something. They have a very high number of rooms, but the hallways look a bit like in a mental institution. So it does not really have style, but I slept perfect. Bathrooms were very clean. Only big con was the lack of power outlets in the room. Location is perfect. 24h reception, but they don't speak english.
