After fhe boring international food it was a miracle, an oasis of fresh local products
cooked in a light french way.I do recommand this place !!
The desserts, pastries and icecream ,althought they are classic, are very light and become
a sort of tentation-at your own risk !
I will come back.

I guess this restaurant would be an artist's dream... unique decorations in a light and breezy atmosphere, and the food very attractively designed. Only problem is if you come there to eat rather than look, you'll end up disappointed as the portions are very small. At first I thought they were bringing the appetizer -- then I realized this was in fact the main dish! To be sure, the chef did arrange the food in a very decorative way and it was pretty to look at, but there wasn’t much to eat. Left hungry, wondering where to go to get a decent meal.

It took us two goes to find this restaurant- the first attempt was in the pouring rain - so keen we were to try it after reading the glowing reviews in Trip Advisor. The problem was that the map had the restaurant in the wrong location! Anyway we went back to our lovely hotel (Mansion del Parquet Bolivar) and asked our host to call the restaurant confirm the address and order us a taxi. Turns out it was in walking distance. Arte and Gusto is light and open and French. Oui the owners are French and the food was lovely. Small menu and wine list, which we appreciated, and different food to what you find elsewhere in San Jose. I ordered the shrimp stew with saffron ( very good) it came with a beautiful little egg flan, rice and vegetables. My Amigo had the octopus stew which was also delicious but different, a nice bottle of French Rose and an apple tart to share, all for $58, so good value too. Worth a visit, rain or shine.

I live here and this cafe has become my local favourite. I go for lunch there every other week it seems and the menu ejecutivo is by far the cheapest and tastiest in town. The 3 course meal served with bread and freshly made fruit juice is so tasty that usually clean my plate with the bread. If you eat a la carte you can choose the amazing chocolate fondant dessert. It's conveniently located near the National theatre and will definitely give you an energy boost to keep going with your sight seeing.

Loved the artsy atmosphere. Proprietors were friendly and generous. One of them had just returned from France the day before, and shared some wonderful, robust Camembert gratuitement after our meal! Tell them you've been to France or want to go and you'll have friends for life. The food was fresh and flavorful, although the pate could have used a little more aspic.
