This restaurant is, at this time, rated the number one restaurant in San Jose. Don't get me wrong, it IS a very very good place to eat...and the food is very well presented and well prepared. There were a few things, however, that I think could be a bit better to get a higher score. This again depends on what each diner values in a restaurant.

LaTerrasse is a small (seats 10 at most) restaurant near hotel La Amistad and a bit difficult to find.Tell the taxi to take you to that hotel and it is just 300 feet away. The owners take great pride in giving their guests the best possible service and food...and it shows in the presentation. The first course I had was Escargot...it was the best part of the dinner and very nice. Unlike many Escargot dishes, this one was NOT broiled in butter with some breadcrumbs sprinkled on it. They offered a dish with mushrooms and a bit of onion in a nice broth/sauce. They also served a Blue Cheese and Zucchini souffle as an appetizer, which was still cold on the inside of the portion. The main course for me was the Beef Burgundy which was prepared in the traditional way. It was very good, but served as a very small portion, along with a potato au gratin. Tasty, but I was finished too quickly.

Desert was a warm chocolate "cake" with Basil Vanilla ice cream. Also, home made and delicious.

I do recommend this restaurant, but keep in mind that there restaurants with equal food quality and larger portions than this one...but, if you don't mind that, you will definitely love this place.

Why go to a restaurant where you have to share space with many other patrons, when you can visit La Terrasse and enjoy of an intimate space and home-made French food?

I visited La Terrasse with my sister and mother and all our food selections were simply delicious. The jazz was perfect. The champagne was nice. The prices were reasonable. The ambience was excellent. What else can I say? Give yourself this treat, you deserve it.

To top it all, the creme brulee was unforgettable. I will come back to La Terrasse to get more creme brulee soon, Gerald!

We were there for dinner (8 adults) and had the place to ourselves. It is a complete experience and not just food. Old remodeled house in barrio Amon converted into a cozy french restaurant where owners cook and serve tables in a warm friendly atmosphere. Very good french cuisine and good value for money. Reservation are a must.

In a nutshell it felt like we were invited over for dinner to our friends beautifully designed home, where Gerald entertained us with stories about France and Costa Rica whilst Patricia worked her magic in the kitchen to prepare an absolutely delicious meal. All this to the sound of Motown classics playing in the background. By far the best meal we had in Costa Rica!
