We were just looking for a place to spend the first night in Costa Rica before moving on. A quick trip to Trip Advisor brought us to the Hotel Grano de Oro in San Jose. It was an absolute gem. The staff was fantastic. It is not in the city center, but that's a small price to pay for the luxury of this hotel. Between a long day of travel and convenience of the hotel restaurant, we chose to eat there. The food was absolutely top notch! We were told the next day by our driver that it was considered one of the top restaurants in Costa Rica. I had no trouble at all believing it. There was a little sticker shock with the dinner bill from the restaurant but it wasn't what you'd think. The bill comes with gratuity included and was in Colons as well as Dollars. When it looked like the bill was 60000 dollars, I was headed for a heart attack. When it turned out to be under $120 with tip included, my cardiac problems were minimized.
Would I go back again? You betcha!
