Great hotel in San Jose

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Aug 2017
When pulling up to this hotel, I saw a beautiful Victorian building. When walking in, we were greeted wonderfully, with cucumber and lemon water. The service was outstanding, and always ready to help up. They gave us great recommendations for lunch, and helped us get around the city.

There is a lush green courtyard leading to the rooms, so it's very different from your regular hotel. The rooms are a good size, but super clean, with bright windows, and a comfortable bed. If I go back to San Jose I would love to stay here again.

We spent 2 nights at the Hotel Grano de Oro. It is a lovely hotel, very clean and the staff was wonderful! It is several blocks from downtown San Jose, but all within walking distance.

We arrived at this Victorian mansion and were given passionfruit/orange juice drinks as we waited to check in. Everyone was very courteous and gave us all the information we needed about breakfast, the jacuzzis, dinner, the TV and the minibar (which was all complementary, except for the alcohol.

There were 4 of us staying in a deluxe, double queen room. Plenty of room for my husband and me, with our two grown children, 19 and 16. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. We didn't think the hotel was full, but they indicated that they only had 2-3 rooms available.

We had dinner the first night in the hotel and the ambience, service and meal were all terrific. Good variety on the menu and from the warm bread to the extensive wine list, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It is a good value, when compared to NY prices, but I can see where prices are high compared to other restaurants in town. Breakfast is included and everything was delicious. The complementary fruit and banana bread were great!

Not much to do in San Jose, but we are looking forward to going back for our last night in Costa Rica. Oh and important for the kids was free wifi throughout the hotel.

Room tip: They all seem unique and equally good. Nice wood floors.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Grano de Oro for two nights to start our vacation in Costa Rica. Although parts of the hotel are being remodeled, it was a comfortable and nice place to stay. The staff are courteous and professional,

So, what makes this place such a winner? The service and food at the restaurant (Note: Service is mentioned first). Although the food was fantastic, our server, Carlos Castro, added a special seasoning that enhanced the flavor. Carlos was one of the best servers we've ever had: welcoming, professional -but authentically nice, and a good Spanish teacher.

You can't go wrong by dinning at the hotel's restaurant. And the entire staff, hotel and restaurant, were great. But Carlos added a little something extra- maybe it was the Spanish lessons....

Probably the most interesting hotel in San Jose with lots of character and the best restaurant in town. Each room is different and perfectly decorated. The staff is very friendly and the food is perfect. As a foodie from San Francisco it was right up there. Enjoyed my stay!

Stayed here for one night before heading off to the jungle. What a charming place. A great place to rest up after a long haul flight. The room was very comfortable and the kids managed to relax in bed and watch a film. We both had massages which were great. Dinner was fantastic but because of jet lag we did not make he most of the amazing menu, but our lighter bites were excellent. Beds were very comfortable and our breakfast boxes to go (as we left at 6am) were yummy. Would thoroughly recommend this place.

The Grano de Oro Hotel is a small (aprox 40 rooms) but elegant hotel with the greatest waitstaff I have ever encountered. The room was beautiful - had a wonderful indoor/outdoor patio and fountain. Service was absolutely superior. The bed was as comfortable as my own and I am very picky about a bed. The restaurant has a reputation in the town as the best dining spot in San Jose. The chef has been at this hotel for 22 years, truly 5 star!

Room tip: I had room 5 - it was great
