“Perfect for Costa Rica arrival”
Reviewed 21 January 2013

I stayed here just one night, the plane landed at 18:30 at San Jose and I was picked up at the hotel by a shuttle the next morning at 8:30. It's place is perfect for you if you need to spend a single night in San Jose. Perhaps it's just me, but there a far better cities in the world than San Jose and Costa Rica has much to offer, so why would you stay more than a night? The breakfast is the best I had in all of Costa Rica.

Thank you for your commentary about Hotel Aranjuez and our buffet breakfast. We are always aware of how to improve this service: looking for new recipes using fresh ingredients acquired directly from costarican producers at the Market and experiencing different ways of presenting our breakfast. We hope that if you ever have to stop once again in San José, Hotel Aranjuez will be your choice.

My husband and I disagree about this place. It had a lot going for it, though. The breakfast is great, lots of selection, great fruit, and breads, tons of stuff, you will not leave hungry. The staff at the front are great, too. I had an emergency and needed an ER when we got there, and they helped us figure it out. They were generally just really personable and helpful.
The rooms vary quite a bit. We stayed first in room 35, which was nice. It had a funky but cute vibe, but only enough hot water for one shower. We stayed in room 32 for the second visit (on our way out of Costa Rica) which was really cute, it had interesting architectural features and the hot water was not a problem. The noise, though was really bad, both from the hallways and other rooms. Also, our bathroom had a large open grate with no screen to keep out bugs, so we had to be sure to keep the bathroom closed at all times.
The delux rooms have good sized t.v.'s for when you are too exhausted to go out, they also work for drowning out neighbors. This area of San Jose is not that nice, there are a few sodas, and it is not close to downtown, but it is walkable for a generally able bodied person. If you are staying here for one night right after arriving, or right before leaving, be aware that it is not close to the airport, it is about a $15 cab ride, which is easy to arrange, but it would be easier to stay somewhere closer to the airport if you are just crashing for the night.

Room Tip: ask to see a few different rooms. They are all very different. The standard rooms have smaller beds...

We much appreciate the feedback that your commentary brings us. We are surprise about the water problem. As you know, as eco-friendly hotel, we use solar panels for heating water. In any case, an electrical system works out in case of any problem with the solar panels. Thank you for aware us about this water problem, our Maintenance staff is checking carefully the solar panel system We also apologize about the screen in room 32, we already took care of that. Near the Hotel, on the east side, our customers can find many restaurants that offer a range food possibility as bars, cafés or fancy restaurants. Many of them are located in a cute costarrican neighborhood. Once again thank you for these observations that permit us to improve our service.

We started and ended our trip at Hotel Aranjuez, based on the reviews on TripAdvisor. We arrived at 11pm and the guy at the desk welcomed us and showed us our room (a double with a shared bathroom). The bathrooms were quite close and we never waited for a shower. The hotel is located in an older part of town that originally we were a little concerned about safety, but in the end we walked everywhere and it was quite safe. The breakfast buffet alone is reason enough to stay here as it is incredible and the courtyard you eat in is beautiful. The walls are a little thin, but that just adds to the hominess as you fall asleep to shuffling feet and creaky wooden floors.

We started our trip to Costa Rica with a four night stay at Aranjuez Hotel as it had been recommended by the apartment manager where we stay in Quepos. The hotel is made up of several older houses that are attached with rooms down a number of walkways. The hotel is quaint and the rooms are somewhat dated but very clean. Some rooms have bathrooms and some are shared so it has the d feel of a hostel. Coming with the room is a magnificent breakfast buffet with a chef cooking eggs or pancakes to your liking and a huge array of pasteries, hot dishes and desserts, along with fresh juice. There is a beautiful garden dining area and other garden areas where you can read or relax. The room prices at Aranjuez are very reasonable and with breakfast a nice deal. The front door is staffed at al times and the staff were extremely helpful and kind. A great place to spend a night or two at the beginning or end or your trip.

This was our first stop on our trip to Costa Rica in Mid-May 2012. It was really great. We were looking for 'different' experiences throughout our trip and this fit the bill. Situated in a neighborhood outside the heart of town it is a quirky arrangement of rooms around gardens and sitting rooms. We were able to walk around and found a local bar to hang out in during the afternoon (learned some Spanish, figured out the money, watched some soccer), found a grocery for supplies and everything else we needed the hotel had. Our room was just fine, bathroom adequate. It's cool, not necessarily fancy. We just wanted to get off to the rest of the country the next morning and it was great. It was only a few minutes drive by taxi to the regional airport (by a cabbie who was probably an ex-Formula 1 driver). Many reviewers have mentioned breakfast and justifiably so--it's wonderful! We stuffed ourselves on great food in the garden, already seeing birds and plants we'd not seen before, making us even more anxious to get out into the rainforest.

This was a great first stop for us and we'd recommend it to others!

If you are looking for a clean and friendly place in San José, this is where you should go. The walls are leaf thin and the doors do not offer much of a lock, but the windeling corridors and hidden rooms in a garden is much to look for. The place is clean, neat, very friendly and the breakfast worth to kill for! We met a LOT of nice people there too.

We much appreciate your commentary about your lodging experience at Hotel Aranjuez. We have been working in isolating the rooms, but in some cases, due the patrimony structure of the houses, we are forbidden to do it. About the doors, they are part of the patrimony structure for the houses. In any case, we are going to make some improvements in this subject during this 2013.

This was a nice and inexpensive hotel, not far from downtown San Jose. I stayed in the cottage rooms and they were very spacious and clean and had a cozy feel. The staff was very polite and helpful. It's a good place to stay if you're doing a transfer since all the tour operators know the hotel.

Room Tip: The cottage rooms are very cozy and delightful.
