We showed up at this hotel and asked to rent multiple rooms. They only had one room left - which we accepted and told them we'd figure it out. There were 5 of us trying to pack into a deluxe double and we offered to pay more for the additional guests. When we were checking out the room, they pointed out that the couch was a pull-out and were understanding of the fact that there were more of us.

The issue started at 12:30 am when 4 of us got back. The security guard on the shift declared that it wasn't possible for all of us to stay. At 12:30 in the morning in a foreign city we were told we couldn't stay. A few of us ended up spending a very rough night sleeping in our car by the police station.

While I understand we had too many people for the capacity of the room - that understanding had been made. We had attempted to get additional rooms. The hotel was full, there was no room for more profit.

In stead of sorting out the issue in the morning, we were thrown into a situation that risked our safety.

Dear customer: As you know, in any hotel in the world, the rooms are made for a particular guest capacity. Upon arrival, before 9 pm as recorded in our system, the clerk told you that we had only one room available for 2 people. For security reasons, we are constantly reviewing our cameras for the movement of people in the Aranjuez Hotel & Apartments. We found that in the room you rented for 2 people, 5 people had entered. The receptionist asks you to respect the agreement of the room's capacity. The receptionist then proceeded to find accommodation options for the other three people. In total, he had to call five hotels, finding accommodations in several of them, including the hotel located in front of the Hotel Aranjuez. We did everything possible to help out your friends. We are very surprised that your friends decided to sleep in the car and not in any of the hotel options we sought out for them (different inexpensive hotels, including one with a shared bathroom).

What a great little hotel! We stayed there for a total of 3 nights during our time in Costa Rica. The hotel is older but adequately renovated and updated to provide visitors with clean, comfortable rooms and modern bathrooms while maintaining the character of the old Tico homes that comprise the place. There are numerous open areas shaded by trees and gardens where you can sit and relax. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and eager for your stay to be pleasant. The breakfast buffet is excellent and overall our stay was most enjoyable and exceptional value for the money. One thing you may wish to note if arriving in San Jose by busfor a stay at this hotel: negotiate a price with your taxi cab driver. He will be one of a throng vying for your attention as you disembark. You should be paying 5 or 6 bucks American. And then do not believe a word your driver tells you on the way to Aranquez Hotel. One of them explained in detail that a general strike in the city would prevent us from making our flight the following day but luckily for us, he could take us to a special hotel he knew close to the airport for a bargain price. I am embarrassed to say we almost fell for it, he was so calm and plausible. A second driver we used had a less ambitious but equally fictional story to tell. If leaving the hotel by taxi, the staff will make the arrangements with a trustworthy and reliable driver. No worries there at all. Getting back on topic, Aranquez is a lovely spot and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Jose!

Room Tip: We stayed there twice, each time for 55 dollars. Some of these rooms have king sized beds. When maki...

Dear Bruce: Undoubtedly, all users of Trip Advisor will be very grateful to all the information provided by you. The problem with the taxi drivers, is something that worries us a lot. For this reason, we insist on telling our clients do not pay attention to taxi drivers trying to drive them to another destination or charge an exorbitant fee. We always recommend our visitors to take only official taxis and if possible, take note of the number and the taxi company. Our receptionists only call known companies and during the day they keep a list of all the taxis they request for our guests. Thank you so much for enjoying our autochthonous hotel and the “tico” feeling we are looking to leave in our guest´s memory. ¡Hasta pronto!

We stayed overnight at this hotel upon arriving in San Jose and couldn't have been happier. We did not stay in the main facility as we booked this trip at the last minute. Our room was in a satellite building around the corner, at first glance, appeared a bit Stalinist. But the room itself was lovely: king-sized bed, nice bathroom, safe in room, and a great tree outside our window that attracted hummingbirds. The breakfast, which was included, was amazing: a giant buffet featuring all kinds of fruits, breads, yogurts, coffee, and an omelet bar in a lush garden setting. The staff were extremely helpful and assisted us in renting a car through Hola car rental, the price of which was better than we were offered at the airport. All in all, a great place.

Room Tip: If you can, book a room in the main facility.

Dear Customer: We are delighted to read that you found our hotel comfortable. The street in front of Aranjuez Apartments is special because of the trees and plants on the shore. In many respects, provides a sense of old Costa Rica. We are glad to read that you have appreciated the new presentation of the buffet and the new dishes we have introduced since last week. We are always looking to improve in all aspects our breakfast, to provide our clients unforgettable sensations and a relaxed start day. Thank you for considering Hotel & Apartments Aranjuez a "great place". ¡Hasta pronto!

The Aranjuez Hotel is composed of several old Tico houses cobbled together into a rambling complex with interesting public spaces scattered here and there. The decor is charming and the staff friendly and helpful.

From the hotel it is an easy walk through several beautiful little parks to the part of downtown San Jose most popular with tourists. The Gold Museum is there and a pedestrian street with shops and cafes.

Ah, but the creme de la creme of the Aranjuez is the breakfast--which is included in the price of the room. In addition to a hot bar with rice and beans, other local dishes, and prepared-to-order eggs and pancakes, there is an incredible array of fruit, bread, pastries, and sweet and savory tidbits to suit every taste. All served in an atrium surrounded by lush jungle foliage.

I have stayed at the Aranjuez three times and will return at every opportunity.

Room Tip: restaurant is breakfast only, but there are good restaurants within walking distance. rooms vary co...
