Being first timers to Costa Rica.. we relied on a map to get ust her.. Ha!.. make sure you call and get directions from the hotel if you've got your own car.. it's only 25 meters from the main road, but finding the side street is a trick and driving in San Jose can be an adventure as there is a Hooters and an Office Depot, but no street signs.

We stayed 2 nights when we got to CR to use as a jumping point to the volcanos and the waterfalls. It's definately a diamond in the rough in San Jose. It's not in a rough neighborhood.. San Jose is just.. well.....worn...

The hotel was great, friendly accomodating staff and great food in the restaurant including a free typical Costa Rican breakfast (rice & beans, toast, juice, fruit. and coffee) ( For a coulple of dollars more you can have an omelette and some meat) Having a decent restaurant in the hotel was worth a lot as it's not advised to be out in SJ after dark too much (The sun sets between 5 and 6 all year)

We had a king superior room ($25 upgrade from the standard) with a garden view which included it's own private patio with outside seating. The room was well appointed with a large walk-in closet, antique furniture and beautiful hardwood floors. The entire hotel is charming with common seating areas and lots of plants. If you have your own transportation, there are 3 different places to park behind locked gates. This was a big plus too since space and parking are hard to find in SJ.

Room Tip: Spring for the next level room upgrade.

I was looking for a place to stay for our trip to visit my daughter who was studying abroad in San Jose. I was looking online and had considered this hotel, but was not sure if the website would show the true hotel. The organization she was with for her program also recommended the hotel, so I booked it. What a pleasant surprise! The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are nice, clean and very quaint. The staff is so friendly and helpful. We stayed one night at the beginning of our trip and then another before we departed back to the states. When we came back, we felt like friends. The food is good, too. In a previous review someone had mentioned that the area was not safe. This hotel has a beautiful fence that surrounds it so we felt very safe. I'm not sure there is an area of San Jose that would be "safe"...

The hotel was as charming as described in past reviews. The service was exceptional. When Ronald, the hotel manager, learned of my husband's walking difficulty he went out of his way to make us comfortable and make our stay that much more convenient.

The entire staff exhibited the "Tico" warmth and friendliness that keeps bring us back to Costa Rica.

We stayed here based on the Trip Advisor high rating, which was well-deserved. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating.

We stayed here the last two nights of our trip to Costa Rica. We ate dinner both nights in the hotel's restaurant as we were advised by friends and our guidebook to not venture into San Jose after dark. The restaurant dinner was delicious, had large portions and was reasonably priced.

The complementary breakfast was sit-down service including fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, fresh-squeezed juice, scrambled eggs, gallo pinto (black beans and rice) and friend plantains. In Costa Rica, when they say, "breakfast is included", they mean it!

We selected this hotel through recommendations on the internet and a tour book and everything listed in these two venues was as it was stated. The location - 2 blocks off the main road in San Jose provided the quiet we needed from the noise and traffic. The rooms were spacious and clean. The staff was fantastic in helping us with making all our travel arrangements throughout Costa Rica. They were very polite, helpful, and provided great recommendations. The food in the restaurant was very good. The only item I wish the room had was windows to open in the evening - we are used to having windows open with fresh air and neither of the rooms we stayed in had windows - just a patio door and we did not feel comfortable to leave it open. The ceiling fan helped with the air flow - but a window would have been better - but I would not let this stop me from staying here again.
