The Villa Tournon is out of the City Centre, but within walking distance (10-15minutes).
There were some rooms that were a little tired and worn, but others were much better. We originally had a room at the front of the hotel & it was very noisy (a bar / singing), but the staff were happy to move us to another room.

Breakfast was served in a large dining room, with plenty of fresh fruit, juices, the usual beans & rice, toast, cereal etc. A few coffee addicts we travelled with said the coffee in the rooms was the best they'd had in Costa Rica.

The hotel bar was expensive, but just up the road (turn right out of the hotel & go up the road a little way - max. 3-5mins) on the left is a centre that has good restaurants if you didn't want to eat in the hotel.

The garden is pleasant for a City hotel, with a small pool & hot tub (go looking in the garden for it). There was a safe at reception, so you can go into the City without the worry of carrying all your valuables. Staff were helpful & on the whole friendly.

A reasonably priced city hotel, which is handy for the airport at the beginning & end of your trip.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room.

Hotel is 10 minutes walk from town based on a noisy road with a casino and night club next door.Be careful when booking rooms that you ask for a quiet room away from noise of loud music in nightclub, ideally at back of hotel.Hotel has a nice pool. Food adequate but not inspiring. Decor is dated beds are very firm

We stayed in this hotel at the beginning and end of our Costa Rica Tour. first two nights were adequate but not inspiring, the last night (Friday night) our 'Superior Room' was right on top of the night club/casino and sleep was impossible until 5am!! The superior room had carpet instead of wooden floors which was filthy and the wallpaper was peeling of the wall. A very sad ending to an otherwise really nice holiday we had in Costa Rica.

We stayed here as part of a mission team. Many groups booked the hotel for one/two night stays - most are teenagers with limited supervision, no manners, and early departures (4am). Two different groups came thru while we were there. In one case, the 17-year-olds partying became so bad, the hotel called the police.

However, the staff is VERY NICE - welcoming and friendly. The rooms were fine - very clean. The beds are hard but OK. Showers have to be coincided with the availability of hot water (on a timer - ask the front desk for the schedule). Bring earplugs and leave your AC fan on to drown out the noise of the teens in the halls. Ask for a room to the left of the elevator on the third floor (ground level). Rooms to the right go toward the Casino. If you are over the casino, your room WILL smell like cigarette smoke.

The breakfast buffet is coffee, juice, scrambled eggs, pancakes, rice and beans, toast, and sausage.

I stayed at this hotel for eight long nights. The bedding consisted of twin beds with mattresses that were as hard as rocks. The room had a strong smell of dampness that I wondered about the mold growing behind the walls. Many of those in my group complained of no hot water and window a/c units that did not work. Luckily, mine worked well.

This hotel appears to be used as a one night stop for lots of student tour groups. (One set was even set up in the workout room when all of the rooms were booked.)

The decor looks as though it could be straight from the 1970's but there are some interesting art pieces in the lobby and dining areas.

The best area of the hotel was the pool area. It was a nice place to sit at the end of a long day.

Breakfast was provided each morning, but every day the food was the same: rice and beans, pancakes, scrambled eggs, little sausage pieces, fruit, and toast.

The two positive things about the hotel during my visit were the hot water and the towels were soft.
