This is a very quaint, friendly hotel, walking distance to all the sites in San Jose. It's at the foot of a fairly gentle hill that leads to the central parks and the cathedrals. The staff are warm and welcoming and there's a very lively restaurant on site that attracts locals in the evenings. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with clean, new linens and towels, with a safe, TV, fridge and a ceiling fan, but no aircon. My room was windowless and was positioned just under a staircase, which seemed odd and did create noise and the sense that the room was dark and airless. It also felt damp. The walls are exposed, painted brick, which gives a modern feel to a quaint space. The bathroom is modern with strong hot water pressure in the shower, but the entire floor is tiled, with nothing to prevent any slippage when the shower is in use or on the wet floor afterwards. An accident just waiting to happen and I felt very insecure. There's no drinking water provided in the rooms, other than a bottle for sale at $3. Breakfast was included and comes with fruit, toast, juice, coffee and something akin to a large slice of greasy spam and what I think passed for cheese, but was in fact a tasteless, rubber triangle of something indescribable.
