Nice park near an ugly downtown
Good for running during day time
You have to avoid it at night
I learned recently that the nice white
Colonial house in the middle of the
Park use to be the headquarter of the old airport in San Jose it is why they converted the place in park

Has been cleaned up as they built the National Soccer Stadium there not too long ago. Sabana Park used to be the old air field many years ago.

If you are visiting Costa Rica, you may find yourself with some time to spare in San Jose before heading out to more "touristy" areas. By all means, stop by the park for an hour or so...easy walking paths, food vendors, and a chance to see some real, local culture.

San Jose is not a picturesque city, by any stretch of the imagination. However, Parque La Sabana offers a reprieve from the noisy, congested, air-polluted environs of the city center. It's great for a stroll or jog, people watching, catching a few minutes of pick-up basketball, soccer, or baseball games. On weekends, it is filled to the brim with families weekend athletes. The new national stadium is also housed in the park and offers some great concert venues in addition to soccer matches.

Be sure to stop at the museum as it has changing exhibits and there is no cost. Very well done inside and out with recent renovations. Don't miss the outdoor sculpture garden as it is quite large and interesting as well.
