“Spring Break in the North Country”
Reviewed 26 March 2014

An amazing experience. The lodge is adequate for basic needs, the meals have been wonderful. The activities during the day are super experiences for being in the north. Dog mushing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snow machine tours and time and space for relaxation. Sleeping between midnight at 5 am is limited because of the beautiful Aurora to which we were treated. Each night got better and better. Napping is a must after dinner. Not a lot for small children to enjoy but our group felt is was fantastic.

Room Tip: The jacquizzi rooms have their own bathroom, but the shared facilities are fine.

My husband & I loved this place, but I can see where others wouldn't. It's remote and in the middle of wilderness without any place to go. If you're easily entertained and adventurous, you'll love it. We did the dog sledding here rather than elsewhere due to the remoteness, it was very serene and peaceful. We didn't get to see the northern lights while visiting, but still had a wonderful experience. Loved communicating and being educated by the staff and the meals were delicious. The rooms were rough and small, but served its purpose. Would love to return during the end of summer or fall. The winter can be bitter and cold, we managed using many feet and hand warmers.

I would highly recommend this lodge! Hazel and team kept everyone full of good home cooked food, kept the facilities clean, made sure everyone had enough warm gear when going outside and pretty much did their best to meet all our needs. The rooms are small and simple and bathrooms and showers are shared but I never had to wait for the facilities and lodge was half full. Dogsled ride with Jürgen was awesome and a must when you are there and snowmobiling with Sven was a great experience too. Luckily the Aurora Borealis was active and had a few clear nights to see it. What an amazing experience! Here are some photos of what you can expereince when you are in Bettles

Thank You Hazel, Jürgen and staff for an amazing adventure!

I would recommend this facility to anyone seeking a remote Alaskan Northern Lights experience. This is not a 4 star luxury resort, but the facilities are acceptable considering the location. The food is not gourmet, but is good and the staff is great. If possible I recommend booking one of the deluxe rooms with jacuzzi tub. The dog sledding and snowmobiling were great experiences for my husband and I, well worth the price. Hazel does a great job of managing this facility and in my opinion, deserves a great deal of credit for its success. Pros include location, varied activities, staff, and clothing provided. Negatives for me were the set menu, and when fully booked, the situation seemed crowded....particularly at meal time.

Room Tip: Jacuzzi room the best. Other rooms share a shower.

Wow, my wife, sister in law and I stayed at Bettles the last week of February 2014. Words can not describe how fantastic our trip was. Hazel, Jaimie and the whole team were so nice. Always happy to help or just chat (when not busy looking after the guests). We had a room in the Aurora lodge and it was small but suited us fine (your not there to sleep). The bathroom was shared but I never had to wait to use it. The three meals a day were great. Quantity and quality was excellent. All the activities were spot on and so much fun. The winter gear supplied was a godsend. It's cold, remote, rugged, gorgeous and more than we expected. If you want to become an Aurora chaser than this is the place. Thank you to all staff at Bettles Lodge.

My husband and I with 2 other couples went to Bettles for my Birthday February. 5-9, 2014. We enjoyed every single moment. Hazel and each and every person did their best to meet our every need. The food was great even catering to special dietary needs. No matter how cold, there is ample outerwear to keep you warm. Our bed was very comfortable. The room and lodge temperature was comfortable. We experienced 3 of 4 nights of beautiful northern lights!!! The snowshoeing, dog mushing, and snowmobiling were all very much fun. We all feel transformed by this experience! We would like return one day winter or summer.

Room Tip: I really enjoyed the jacuzzi tub. I used it 3 of 4 nights. We liked the rooms at the back of the Aur...

If you're planning to travel to the north ofAlaska you MUST consider staying at Bettles Lodge. Usually people go to places closest to Fairbanks, but the isolation of Bettles provide a perfect spot for Aurora observation, mushing or even walking. The warm of Jamie, Hazel, Teresa and the rest of the team makes your stay a unique and unforgettable experience. The food and the snacks are delicious and the main lounge serves as an encounter point for travelers and locals who get together to share their experiences in a relaxed environment, enjoying a cup of coffee, tea, or maybe even a local beer or wine. Summer has to be a delight as well with the river running wild.
