“Quite Nice and Enjoyable”
Reviewed 3 May 2013

This was our first stop...just 2 ladies taking a restful trip to Tahiti after saying we would make the trip after Australia in the late 1980s. We spent 2 nights with 2 1/2 days of peace and quiet. The water was very relaxing just a few feet away from the pool area...even though rough on both days it was a joy to look and listen to. Walking in the water was just find for me with water shoes on but I could not do much more because of the current being so rough. The beach was more than a 15 minute walk....long road but not bad. Very enjoyable and water was just fantastic. I did not use the bikes...seem to be a little to old for me...but others did. The walk was better for me....dogs are plentiful but if you don't look at them....you are okay I guess. Something about the islands like this....stray dogs everywhere. Elizabeth and Jean were great host...we did not eat with them in the evenings...usually was out in the day and by the time we returned already had eaten because their food was prepared for late eating and I don't eat after 7pm. They understood and gave me suggestion of a restaurant pretty much next door. The dogs were very good and welcomed us home after being gone all day...enjoy me playing with them and frizby??
Had the single room upstairs over their place because originally I was traveling alone...then after plans changed...they gave a small bed. The room was clean, well decorated with nice pictures and mattress was comfortable. Bathroom was decorated in wood and stone...very nice and I loved the shower. There was a porch from the room which was as big as the room....very nice breezy and good for laying out the luggage, which we used for that and relaxing in the chaise lounge. If I make another visit I would love to stay in the bungalows....I did look inside after they were vacated...and very nicely decorated and spacious. She was at full capacity when we were there and I would imagine, it is this way all the time. I just wish I knew about the distance away from everything before booking...would have planned to get a scooter or something before arrival...not much time to do it on the 1st day. So if you can drive a manual car....rent a car to stay there or scooter.....those old bikes may not be reliable to do a lot of riding...to the beach is okay but much further is questionable. Backpacker would enjoy the walk as I saw some of the couples do. Great place and would recommend it to anyone wanting the local flavor and not a hotel....you would miss the authenicity of the french environment. I do not speak french but did not need to.

Well, this lodge (cause it's not a pension) isn't in a sandy beach like the one of Temae, but it's very near, only 15min walk, in any case is located in a stretch of sea really wonderful, wild and charming. It's only a bit hard the entrance of the water, but with an appropriate pair of shoes that's not a problem. Bungalow are simply splendid, refined and well groomed, also the private stone bath is very beautiful. So location and environment are fairly good but cuisine it's not equal to the rest, too elaborate for my tastes. Atmosphere and staff are very "French" with all his advantages and disadvantages, i leave to you the decision to describe if that is a good thing or not, surely quite far from polynesian lifestyle. Owner's dogs are really nice

As one of the locals said to us, the Green Lodge in a hidden treasurer on Moorea. Isabelle and Jean-Luc were welcoming, courteous, supportive and had wonderful suggestions for local events, locations and activities. The bungalow was beautiful, spacious and decorated tastefully in a Zen-Bali beach style. Very nice.

But the most fun was dinner at the Lodge cooked by Isabelle. She is a talented chef. So good.

Finally, we did not speak French at all and were unaccustomed to the island. Isabelle and Jean-Luc understood us, spoke English well and were patient with us.

A better place to stay than in a commercial resort to ensure you "feel" Moorea.

Room Tip: We had the bungalow on the sea side. Delightful to hear the waves as you drift off to sleep.

We stayed at Green Lodge for four nights on our honeymoon. If you are like most honeymooners in French Polynesia, you will get plenty of resort-style vacationing on the other islands, so the warm and welcoming bed and breakfast was a welcomed change. We had one of the two ocean front bungalows which was well decorated and nicely appointed. The property consists of a main house with the patio for dining overlooking a pool surrounded by the bungalows. There is a beach, although like most beachs in FP, it was filled with coral.

It should be noted that the property is located opposite of the airport's property. While we did not hear a single airplane while on the property, the position coupled with the dirt access road that goes along the fence beside the landing strip did not make the property easily accessible. We were also told that taxis did not like to come there (because of the dirt road). While we never experienced a problem returning at night (probably because the rates are much higher at night), we did have problems getting taxis to pick us up. We rented a car for a day to tour around the island and in hindsight, would have rented a car for the entire stay to have more freedom and save the expensive taxis.

The other note is there is a lot of wind coming off the ocean practically non-stop. Especially in our ocean front bungalow, we had to keep the blinds down on the terrace to dull the wind. While we did enjoy the sun one morning on the coral beach in the lawn chairs, if you are looking to spend time in the water or on a sandy beach, you are best to go to the local beach on the other end of the airport property or stay at the pool. The good news is you won't get hot as you will enjoy a constant breeze. We did not mind the wind, but it would have been nice to know to expect it.

Finally, be aware that there are no restaurants in walking distance with two exceptions, a "snack" next door which was surprisingly good, but simple, and a restaurant at the nearby golf course. We enjoyed borrowing the bikes and biking the short distance to the golf course restaurant and enjoying the view there (we did it twice!). There is, of course, the option to eat on site for dinners too, which we did once and enjoyed. (No matter what, do not miss the breakfast. The fresh fruit, selection of breads and pastries coupled with jams, were delicious!) In any case, there are great restaurants available on the island in, at most, a 20 minute drive.

Overall, Green Lodge was a great place to stay. My advice would be to rent a car to have more accessibility but stay here to enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere and the nice accommodations.

Room Tip: Bungalows are nice - spring for the ocean front and enjoy the sunrise and the view

We stayed with Isabelle and Jean Luc for 4 nights in a beautifully designed bungalow just off the beach. We loved the ease of not having to drive anywhere, but just borrowing the bicycles and touring the island that way. There are 3 really friendly dogs, plenty of privacy, hammocks strung under Tahitian noni trees and sweet Tiare trees; mountains on one side, sea on the other, great snorkeling, walking, biking right from the door... this was really a perfect getaway.
Green Lodge is great value, although it is not right on a swimming beach. There is a beautiful beach just around the point though that is perfect for swimming and laying in the sun. You can walk there.
Do not miss the pina coladas- they are the best we've had and dinners are really great- fresh prepared fish, salads. Dinner is also a great value and it is nice, again, not to have to drive anywhere to eat.
Also: refrigerator and tea/ coffee in room, near by restaurants
