“Just cheap but very bad”
Reviewed 30 January 2013

We stayed there in a dorm just because it is a cheap place, later we discoverd a other palce camping with rooms in the west side much better and the same price
Here you don´t have mosquito net and it is necessary
No facilities to cook. The food in pension is not good
Try to go another place in Moorea

Room Tip: Dorm is really bad

We came here for the first time in November 2004 for 3 a week stay and were immediately charmed by this little paradise!
There are five very nice and spacious bungalows (three with direct sea view and two in the beautiful garden) and a nice dorm.
Both the owner and the staff of Motu Iti are very friendly, helpful and courteous!
The lagoon is located right outside the front door and is ideal for swimming, kayaking and snorkeling. Besides stunningly beautiful corals you can also observe a variety of different sea creatures (for instance octopus, clown fish, turtles, stingrays, eagle rays, moray eels, jacks, parrotfish, butterfly fish, beautiful white-and blacktipped sharks). Even without being able to snorkel many of these animals can be observed directly from the pontoon - it just takes a little patience! If you are here between August and October with a little luck passing humpback whales can be seen behind the surf.
We also like the open-air restaurant right on the lagoon very much . Everyone should try the Tahitian cuisine (for instance raw fish with coconut milk, duet of tuna, tuna tartare)! The menu offers those who don't like fish or want some change also a selection of other dishes. These are also delicious!
Since 2004, we regularly return to this paradise and are every time very excited again!
Our last stay was in November / December 2012, and we can hardly wait for our return!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a really good time at Motu Iti. It is in a nice surrounding directly at the beach with a nice view to the ocean. Over here you see a lot of colorful fishes when you snorchel or when you take the kayak or just when you sit in the beachfrontrestaurant or on the wooden overwaterbungalow.

The very friendly and relaxed owner can show you how to fishing. See the pictures when he prepared some fish. It is amazing, you can feed a stingray, called Moto, and touch him. Moto is very friendly and takes care of you.

I spend my nights in the dorm. The first night I was alone and the further nights there were just two ore three more people. I really enjoyed to stay in the dorm close to the beach, to hear the sounds of the waves, seeing the stars and the moon and wake up with the sunlight. Of course the dorm is very simple, but very cheap and you have everything you need plus the natural feeling for a very good price. Maybe the cheapest price you can have in Tahiti and Moorea for a very nice, enjoyable and friendly place. If you want more luxury and privacy you can stay also in one of the bungalow at the beachfront or at the gardenside.

The restaurant serve fresh fish. You can have fresh tuna prepared in different ways as you like. Very Yummie!!

I would come back again and like to stay longer just to relax or to explore this very beautiful island.

We stayed at this family pension for 5 nights. Room is clean and neat. The view is magnificent with pontoon right there for us to swim, to snorkel or to kayak around the lagoon.
But you will need transportation to go around. We rented a scooter and that solved all the problems.
You can try restaurant right at the pension or Aito next to it but a bit pricey

Moto Iti is positioned on a stunning part of the lagoon off Moorea. The views from the rooms are excellent. However, the accommodation itself leaves a lot to be desired.

The rooms are fairly basic, the beds average in comfort. Our room included a mosquito net, but this was so old and damaged it may as well not have been there. There is no kitchen, and no facility for guests to use a fridge. There is also nothing in the immediate vicinity of the hotel - the nearest mini-market is 45 minutes walk away, and the nearest bar at the (expensive) Hilton, 25 minutes away.

Our main gripe with the hotel, however, is the staff. Whilst we were there, the owner was away on holiday himself, and had left the hotel in the control of two staff members. During our stay, the room cleaning was nothing more than a token effort; the lobby (where the internet facility and drinks are sold) was closed every day at or before 2pm, despite the hotel information suggesting that it should have been 8pm, which mean there was nowhere to buy cold drinks; the service in the restaurant was terrible - if you're not local or absolutely fluent in French, expect to be ignored; and the ladies could not have been less interested in helping us with our stay.

We asked them to book a tour for us on one occasion, which they told us they'd done. The details of the trip involved a pick-up at 0730 on a Sunday morning. It was only when we tried to double check the details directly (the lobby being closed preventing us from going via the hotel) that we discovered that our tour isn't even run on a Sunday.

We also asked for assistance in extending our scooter hire early one evening and were told by one of the sisters that she couldn't help and that her sister wasn't available as she was taking a shower - despite the fact that we could see her no more than 6 feet away watching the television.

I'd give Moto Iti a miss if I were you... there are much better places on the Island for the same price, and they all have comparable views.

We stayed at pension Motu Iti for three nights and really enjoyed our stay in one of the garden bungalows. The highlight of the pension is the small jetty sitting in the sea. We had a few nights here, watching the sun set with some drinks and playing cards. Very peaceful and a beautiful setting. There are also several kayaks (with complete paddles!) and we spent some time kayaking around the corral checking out the fish, including a shark (much further out!).

The breakfast was simple, but we really enjoyed our tasty dinners (mostly fresh tuna of course).

The location is very pretty, but as with anywhere on Moorea, we recommend to hire a moped or car if you want to get around to check out the beaches, the spectacular mountain view etc.

The hosts, Auguste and Dora, are very friendly and helpful.

Only downside - having to pay for the internet, which is pricy. Other than that, no complaints, with accommodation and food very reasonably priced!

My husband and I stayed at Pension Motu Iti for around 5 nights in total in July 2011 and absolutely loved it. It is a reasonably priced option especially for Moorea and there are only 5 wooden cabins and some dorms there and so it is nice and peaceful. There are 3 cabins at the front and 2 at the back but all of them have a great decked seating area outside and you can see the sea from each of them. On our first 2 night stay, we were given one of the front cabins and we found we were only a few feet away from the water and it was stunning to watch the sunsets/sunrise from. The room was huge and the bed was a great size too with clean sheets and amazing glass patio doors leading out to the decked seating area. The room was decorated with beautiful red flowers placed in the bedroom and the bathroom which was a nice touch. The breakfast was pretty simple but the fresh pineapple was very tasty every morning. We had dinner there too and I would recommend the pizzas which were tasty but everything else was just okay especially for the high price. You could use their free kayaks to go out and see the fish around the coral but you didn’t really need to go anywhere as you could just watch lots of fish or snorkel from the shore as the water is amazingly clear. The 2nd time we stayed, we had one of the 2 cheaper garden cabins and still had a lovely view of the sea from our decking area and the décor was exactly the same as the one in front. Whilst we were at breakfast one morning, we also spotted an octopus that came in really close and it was amazing to see. I would definitely recommend Motu Iti as one of the more reasonably priced options given the cost of some of the more posher resorts on Moorea and for a lovely relaxing break.
