Went there on a Friday afternoon for lunch. They are only open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There are about 5 picnic tables set up in a garden. Sonja makes her food with items grown in the extensive garden she has on the property. You are basically sitting among the foods she is preparing for you. She said that the cyclone that hit in March had a detrimental effect on the crops and it limited what she had to offer. There were about three items on the menu that day and we chose the Breadfruit lasagna. There were no meat or dairy products in it. It was served with something similar to cole slaw and a pineapple/onion relish The food was fantastic. We spent $55NZD for 2 orders of lasagna and a lemonade.

It is really hard to capture the feel of this place in words, it has an unassuming little sign out the front, and the quaintest little seating arrangements in the garden. We were just popping in for a snack, but we had underestimated the place, as it offered amazing meals. It cost more than I expected, but when we saw the lovingly homemade meals we realised why. Everything was delicious. Original, tasty and beautifully presented. It was so good, we could not resist a dessert too! (at lunch time!) Once again an amazing tasty creation, stunningly presented with lots of fresh, delicious fruit. We would highly recommend this to others as a truly authentic Aitutaki experience.

We visited Tauono's several times to buy fruits and vegetables. We got great tomatos, egg plants, star fruit and roasted coconut.

The quality is top notch. Everything tasted delicious. Prices are also very reasonable. Often we found fruits or vegetables here that we couldn't get in the shops on the island.

Sonya is the owner, and she can really cook! She's Austrian by birth, but has gone native, and her teas and lunches are not to be missed. She grows her own fruit and vegetables and her fish plates, fresh tropical juices and homemade ice cream will put a smile on your face. She is gregarious and knowledgeable. She also sells fresh fruits and vegetables out the back door, along with homemade preserves.

Tauono's is a great little café and organic fruit market. The café is only open from noon to 2 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We were a bit early for lunch and Sonja let us walk through her property to the beach. It was very pretty and a great way to pass the time until lunch was ready.

The menu varies by day and since this is a very small café, the choices are very limited. On the day that we were there, there was a fish dish, a beef dish and a veggie option. We both had the beef goulash which was absolutely delicious. It came with fruit, veggies and home baked seed bread. We also had a salad that was fresh from the garden and had a nice light dressing on it. Everything was fresh and well made. The service was excellent and they really made you feel welcome.

Note that Tauono's does not take credit cards. Sonja had her cookbook for sale in the café, but we didn't have the cash on hand at the time. I wish we had as the food was so good.
