We stayed in an overwater bungalow for four nights. Bungalow was large and very comfy. Only thing that was needed was a minibar. Being an island meant there was always a sheltered beach. Food was good, staff were friendly. Spa was average. Beautiful place. Sunloungers on beach bungalows need to be updated for the price you pay. Regular beach bungalows may be better value as our bungalow deck was only useable when the wind was going in the right direction.

I found the staff at the resort friendly and extremely helpful.
I had a medical incident that needed urgent attention on my first day.
My husband went to reception ,and they immediately arranged transportation to the local hospital.
I had to make regular daily visits to hospital and the staff were always helpful and accommodating.
TK. Took me everyday and he was cheerful, helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble.
So,contrary to what I've read in some reviews,I found the staff wonderful!

Room Tip: The rooms nearest the ferry hear the motor start daily at 6.30

We stayed here for a couple of nights, we found this place gorgeous. Food and alcohol is expensive. You pay extra for cooked breakfast if you would like it. The staff are happy to leave you to yourself. The water is amazing, it is warm and the most beautiful blue colour and oh so clear. We took a boat ride over to One foot Island which was a highlight. We stopped in the middle of the lagoon and snorkelled, it was incredible. There is a sandbank that starts in the middle of the lagoon that goes all the way to One foot Island, we walked it and then had a bbq on the island. We rode motor bike / scooters around the island. The island is small and very friendly. It is remote so do not expect much. I thought this place was delightful

Beautiful place and accomodation (even if it needs some renovation); food very good, unfortunately the staff ( not everybody but the 90% of them) was completely unfriendly and behaviour as a 1 star motel:not smiling when you aked something, not friendly with people coming from outside, completely not professional, the worst experience in a 5 stars hotel.
Moreover bedclothes not sufficiently clean; housekeeping just 1 per day; you should pay every service (i.e. Jacuzzi, overcheckout, transfer very expensive)

Kia Orana Angelica
Thank you for taking the time to upload a review on your stay with us at Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa in August of last year.
We are pleased to hear that you found us to have a beautiful place and our food and accommodation to be very good. Aitutaki Lagoon is called the world’s most beautiful lagoon for good reason, and has just been named in the top 12 beaches in the world on TripAdvisor - glad you too were able to experience our stunning white sandy beaches and sparkling aquamarine lagoon.
I am sorry to hear that our staff did not meet your expectations and I have since addressed this with my team through coaching and counselling. Our staff are renowned for being friendly and helpful so it is extremely unusual to receive the kind of feedback you have provided. I am also glad that we were able to meet together prior to your departure in respect to your friends who wanted to visit you. This would also have been the opportunity for us to have discussed any other genuine concerns that you may have had in regards to your stay. In regards to the family and friends of any guest staying with us, they are most welcome to come to visit. We do ask however that they please present themselves to our Reception Desk, our guest is then notified of their visit and we recommend to our guests that they meet their visitors in Reception. We are the only exclusive Private Island in the Cook Islands, it is important that the privacy and security of our other guests is also respected, so we are not able to have non-resort guests simply wandering around our private island and I am sure you can appreciate just how reasonable our request of our guests is now that it has been explained to you. You will find similar policies in place at most top end resorts or hotels world-wide in fact.
Visitors who would like to visit our private island just to look around are most welcome to join us for a site inspection of the resort bungalows and facilities; we offer site inspections at 2pm each day.
Visitors are also welcome to dine with us during restaurant service times; we do recommend that they contact us to make a prior booking:-
• Breakfast – 7:30am to 10am
• Lunch – 12noon to 5:30pm
• Dinner – 6:30pm to 9pm
• Bar open until last service

Visitors who would like to join us for the day are most welcome to book in for a private beach gazebo (charges apply) and this includes:
• FREE Snorkelling (use of mask, snorkel & flippers), SUPs (stand-up paddle boards), windsurfing, outrigger canoeing, kayaking, use of reef shoes, hammocks, gym, games lounge, guest library, bicycles
• FREE Daily Activities Programme, including fish feeding, snorkelling lessons, wide range of cultural activities (‘ura (hula) dancing, ei (lei) making, ukulele & log drum playing, how to tie your pareu (sarong), coconut climbing & husking show, crab hunting, crab racing and more
• FREE use of swimming pool, sun loungers, beach towels
• FREE ferry transfers

Thank you again for your valued feedback, and I do hope I’ve been able to place into context for you the matters you have raised.

Kind Regards & Kia Manuia,

Rose Kareroa

The resort is in the most stunning location - we found it when we were cycling one day. As we were looking for somewhere special for dinner on our last evening we decided to go to the hotel to book for that evening ... and possibly a location to stay on our next trip.

The greeting we got at reception was bordering on rude. I appreciate that the staff want to respect the privacy of guests but everything seemed to much trouble... from showing us a menu to helping us find a taxi company to arrange transport for the evening. When we asked if we could have a drink in the bar we were told that we would have to he escorted to and from the bar... and generally made to feel that we were not good enough for the resort

So we decided not to go there for dinner and will not consider this hotel for future stays. Shame as the location should make this the place to stay on the island

If you are interested in staying in Aitutaki then this is the place!
Forget about the amazingly friendly staff ,beautiful food and the luxuriously beautiful rooms!
This resort is perched right on the edge of the most breathtaking lagoon I have ever laid eyes on!
Every year we travel to a different tropical island ( e.g Maldives, fiji ,Vanuatu ,bora bora etc ) and this is the only one we want to come back to.
Get a lagoon view room so you can wake up to 57sqare klms of crystal clear aqua blue lagoon.
There is cheaper and more expensive but none more beautiful. Local bar , cafe and car/moped hire within walking distance. (The other big resort doesn't have this but does have kids meals that start at $43)
Do not miss out on a lagoon snorkeling trip spend the money and hire a private charter twice as long (if you want) 4x the locations , 1/20th the people and a boat that is 10 times faster.

This hotel and spa was just not delivering on any aspect of its core business and we decided it had been a huge waste of time, money and effort to get there. When we decided to leave two days before our booking, noone from the hotel asked us why or showed in any interest in our departure.
Over water bungalows were very expensive and are tired.
The breakfast offer each day was poor and unimaginative. The dinner/lunch meals were expensive, took ages to be served and and there was not a lot of fresh food options.
The staff are not being encouraged to offer friendly welcoming service and this place needs a major overhaul.
We also think that the practice of charging a 4% surcharge on a visa transaction is just gouging the customer.
This is not a place that we will ever visit again.
