You know those postcodes and wallpapers of stunningly beautiful Pacific Islands - well imagine just stepping into one - that's Aitutaki - WOW. SOOOO beautiful - so lovely, and the people are so warm and friendly.

Tamanu Beach beach is the perfect spot to enjoy this little slice of paradise. There are about 25 huts, a restaurant and two small ppols, fronting on to an amazing white sand beach that stretches in both directions for miles - and there are virtually no other people on it.

The snorkeling of the beach is beautiful, with purple coral aand lovey tropical fish abounding.

Reception booked us a Lagoon tour with TeKing Tours - and that was just amazing as well.

Top marks - the rooms are lovely, clean and comfortable - the beach is fabulous, and the staff are warm and friendly.

One caution about Aitutaki - leave your attitude at the airport. Grumpy or disagreeable attitudes stand out a mile here, because everybody is just so happy and wam.

Room Tip: The 200 Block rooms are slightly newer

We stayed for 3 nights in the beachfront room. We experienced amazing service in a clean and well maintained resort. Everywhere on Aitutaki was beautiful but thought Tamanu was great value for money in a beautiful beach and setting.
Would highliy recomend the Sunday BBQ night and lunch in the resturant was fantastic. The staff are extreamly friendly and loved that we could access filtered water 24/7 instead of having to buy water all the time.

Room Tip: room 202 is the best!

The villas are in a beautiful beachside location. They are nicely decorated. Ours had a fully equiped kitchen. Free use of kayaks. Tamanu Beachfront Restaurant offers a wonderful beachfront view with amazing sunsets. Food was okay. Every Thursday the Island Fire Show is a must. The buffet dinner before the show was very good.

Stayed for 8 blissful nights in bungalow 112, which was right on the beach and next to the pool! Perfect honeymoon accommodation - quiet, idyllic location.

100-block is the original group of bungalows completed in 2001. Very clean and tidy. Self catering facilities: large fridge/freezer, 2 burner gas-hob and microwave as well as crockery, cultery, basic tools and cooking accessories (all very clean on inspection). We ate out though all but one night.

Access to main office & restaurant was via the beach, if you have special needs (or hate sand??) you should probably request a 1-bed unit in the newer, 200-block.

King size bed was great, very comfortable.

Bathroom good size, nice clean shower (no black mould!) Lovely toiletries provided. Towels all nice white and clean.

Breakfast standard continental and was satisfactory. Agree with a previous review that tables could be set, as for dinner, for patrons. It's no big deal but would just take it from satisfactory to very good. Restaurant food good quality and well presented.

Staff friendly and helpful. Orientation on arrival was good. Loved that it wasn't at all pretentious either, we visited the Pacific Resort and, although magnificently beautiful, would have been scared to fart in my own bathroom.

Wonderful island night, nice touch that it was hosted by the owner and that the whole venture is very much a family/community affair.

I like cats so I wasn't bothered about them roaming around as they do all over Aitutaki so this is not particular to the resort and pretty much just part of life on the island. If you're not a cat person this place/Aitutaki might not be for you. Likewise, chickens roam the grounds freely, but again this is an island thing not a hotel thing and they do all over Aitutaki. Roosters do crow in the AM but, again, you'll find that everywhere. If you are the kind of person bothered by these kinds of things Aitutaki just might not be the place for you.

Mosquitoes are not any fault of the resort and they do their best in providing gear to keep them at bay providing coils, indoor pads and screens. Definitely need to use a DEET based repellent!

We had a LOVELY time and hope to return one day for a second run.

To understand the reviews on this resort, it is important to understand the resort set up. There are essentially two sides to the resort, separated by a private residence and connected via the beach or road. The 12 residences in the original resort are all situated with balconies with lagoon views and a beautiful shared infinity edge pool. These bungalows are studios and are set up for complete absence from civilization (no phones, clocks, or tvs), but they do have a full kitchen. The walk from these bungalows to the dining area and office takes about 2 minutes via beach or road. The 10 bungalows on the "new" side are larger one-bedroom units with broader views of the lagoon and larger balconies, as well as phones, clocks, and tvs (which we never used) and 3 of these bungalows are true beach front. The 10 new bungalows are also located on the same grounds as the office and restaurant. The beach in front of both is nice and set up with chairs and kayaks for the guests' use. There is a abundance of black sea slugs in the water (harmless), which can be a bit offputting, but are interesting to look at. Because of this, we rented scooters and spent quite a bit of time around the island at Samade's (high recommend), which is better for swimming and relaxing, but not as good for snorkeling.

We stayed in #202, a beach front bungalow in the newer area and were immensely pleased. This bungalow has the best sunset view, in my opinion. The rooms were clean, neat, and modern and the king-sized bed was surprisingly comfortable, something that is not always common in island accommodations. The front office did everything to make our stay enjoyable (including working with a local dive shop to do a credit charge when we found out that the dive shop was a cash only operation!). The owner, a down-to-earth and good natured guy was also around regularly to make sure that guests were well taken care of and also hosted the island night, one of the best (and most authentic) that I have ever seen.

If you stay here, the island night is not to be missed. The food is prepared by multiple parties on the island, based on their specialties, is authentic and tasty! I recommend that you try everything at least once.

Overall, our time at Tamanu was pure bliss!

Room Tip: Beachfront #202 if you can swing it

Aitutaki is pretty small so it was great to get a spot that is pretty much central for anything you need and that also has excellent swimming access for the lagoon. Tamanu has huge, separated villa style accommodation all with views or water glimpses and all very close to the beach and water. The rooms are well fitted, comfortable and have large beds plus indoor/outdoor living areas - they are serviced daily and very clean. While additional service is basic it is attentive and all details for the island are readily provided by staff. The restaurant has a great position overlooking the lagoon and its open air feel is charming - though the food is nothing special; just well prepared staples. We stayed four nights and would have stayed longer if possible, especially after checking out some of the other accommodation options - the casual yet sophisticated feel sets a perfect tone and proximity to the beach is a highlight.

My wife and my self have just returned from an eleven night stay at Tamanu beach resort. Right from the time you arrive you are treated like family. Everyone from the owner to house cleaning staff make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay special.
There are a few choices of villas, we chose a self catering unit with a full fridge and stove. We were able to entertain guest on our deck facing the ocean and also enjoy some of the fresh tuna and wahoo for which the island is famous. Thursday is island night and shouldn't be missed. A huge buffet of local and traditional foods, followed by the island dancers and fire throwers. There are many special aspects to this resort, but the one I will miss the most is: after a smoking hot day of surf and sand, coming back and slipping into the sweet cool water of the infinity pool ( with a cool G&T lots of lime)
and just gaze out over the lagoon and ocean. Many thanks to everyone for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this great facility. Bob
