Came here for Sunday night Barbecue on the beach. Was really dissapointed with food. Tinned beetroot!!!???? Staying on a tropical island expected some nice local food. Dessert was no better with tinned fruit salad!!!??? Very expensive for what we received.

Beautiful location. Our booking was with a garden view but we also had a fantastic vista - beach and reefs. Warmly welcomed and taken to our accommodation by electric cart. Location was great - part way between the airport and the man village.
We ate at the restaurant and found it great. Highly recommend the cajun tuna - a real taste treat.
Had a wonderful time.

Room Tip: Get one with a lagoon view

My wife and I recently stayed five nights. Overall it was an enjoyable stay, the staff was for the most part very accommodating and responsive. The room was pleasant and clean (except a funky smell from the loo) although there was a daily problem with hot water (lack thereof). As we are cat people, the resident felines were not a bother. The same cannot be said for the rooster population however!!! The garden, pool and beach areas were beautiful and the kayaks and snorkeling opportunity wonderful. I have commented separately on the restaurant, I was not impressed, I believe they could do much better in that regard.

We stayed for a week at Tamanu Beach and it was a fantastic experience. It is a small resort, very private. The beach is gorgeous and the swimming and snorkeling excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful with impeccable service. We were in the two room bungalows which were very clean, airy and comfortable. Beautiful sea views from each one with a large deck out front for lounging. The food was very acceptable. The breakfasts a little predictable, good, but not spectacular. The meals the same - not amazing quality, but pretty good by cook island standards. The wine list was surprisingly good, but completely let down by the wine by the glass selection which was the most cheapest awful wine available in New Zealand. The only bad thing about the resort is the endless day and night crowing of the roosters. In particular a resident rooster who wanders around at 4:00am and ensures no-one in the resort will get a good nights sleep! Overall though would recommend for relaxing, romantic hideaway spot.

Room Tip: Both the Bungalows and the Garden Rooms are good

The Tamanu Beach is a very nice place to stay. The bungalows are really big, well maintained and have a huge terrace. The whole bungalows was full of beautiful flowers when we first came i - sooooo nice! And all staff were amazing! Even if we 'just' stayed in one of the garden bungalows it was really very nice! Don't waste your money booking one of the few bungalows at the beachfront. The garden is nice and quite and there a few cure cats strolling around. It's just a 30 seconds walk to the beautiful beach. It's a very good value for money with breakfast included. We also tried the restaurant which had amazing food. However, one of the team members at the restaurant was quite unfriendly which was so surprising, because everyone else on the Cook Islands is just adorable.

Tamanu Beach resort is an absolutely delightful place. The facilities are well presented , spacious and beautifully laid out, but what really makes the stray is the staff. They practically make you feel like family. Heartily recommended.

Tamanu advertised itself as "Casual Luxury", how right it is! I chose this resort for its price range, a bit of comfort without paying too much, and its location - I need to be able to get to Arutanga Wharf within 10 minutes.

The resort is divided into two sections: One-bedroom bungalows, restaurant, and reception on the south, studio bungalows on the north, separated by private properties in between. Walking distance between the two is about 5 minutes.

Stayed in a studio bungalow that has a king size bed (two single bed put together), 4 pillows, two bedside tables and lamps, air-conditioner, a ceiling fan, luggage rack, a small armchair, wardrobe, 5 hangers, small safe, iron/ironing board, 2 umbrellas, and a picnic mat.

The huge verandah has a Brazilian hammock chair, 3 garden chairs and a glass top table, and a mosquito coil container. There were mosquitoes everywhere so do pack an insect repellent!

The bungalow also has an adequate kitchenette with 2 cooking hobs, medium size fridge, 2 bar stools, basic cooking utensils and dishware, a small microwave, a toaster, a kettle, and tea/coffee facilities. The bathroom has a walk-in shower box, a laundry basket, and a hairdryer.

The bungalow was overall very clean and well kept.

Sleep wise, the beds were a bit wobbly and pillows were not particularly comfortable, however the area was very quiet which was a nice change coming from an urban area. Surprisingly, the roosters were not at all loud in the morning.

Drinking water is refilled daily by housekeeping into 2 glass bottles and kettle, otherwise it can be refilled at the restaurant or at Vaka Bar by the reception. WiFi cost NZD10/hour and laundry is NZD15 per basket.

Coconut palms dotted the ground at this section of the resort, there is also a small infinity pool, 2 queen size hammocks, some deckchairs on the beach, and 4 one-seater kayaks for guest use. The studio bungalows are in close proximity to one another with all vanrendah facing the sea, there is a greedy residential tabby (no dogs on the island) and chickens that hang around the area, as well as a small parking area just by the entrance.

Bicycles can be found at the other section near the reception, they are old, gear less, with a rusty break but is a good way to explore this side of the island.

Buffet breakfast has an ok selection, especially tropical fruits, the croissant was particularly good. The hotel's restaurant has limited menu but serves good food. Island Night on Thursday (NZD65) was fantastic with delicious Polynesian cuisine and entertaining fire dance, BBQ Night on Sunday (NZD45) with overcooked fish and meat was not as good in comparison.

There is no shops within 20 minutes walking distance from the resort, the only store that opens on Sunday is the Payless Store in Amuri but it doesn't stock much. The best shop is Maina Superstore near the Information Centre at Arutanga, and opposite it, MVA Takeaway (opens lunch and dinner 6-9pm), does excellent fish and chips. Given so many coconut palms on the island, I was surprised to find there are no coconut drinks for sale.

I would stay here again.
