Looking for the perfect small boutique resort? Well look no further.....Etu Moana is it. I can not express how pleased we were with our stay. Not one thing has been overlooked with this little piece of paradise. From the hosts Jo-Anne and Jim, staff, overall surroundings, all the way down to the dimmer switches over the bed....everything was perfect. With 8 gorgeous bungalows, spaced nicely apart, all with views, you are given the feeling that you have been returning to this resort for years......thanks to the friendliness of the staff and hosts. Every morning we had our complimentary continental breakfast poolside and just sat back and enjoyed the peacefulness and views. We are already talking about our return trip to this little jewel in the pacific. Wheather you are taking a honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary, or just on holiday Etu Moana is the place to stay.

Incredible!
There is nothing better than staying at the Etu Moana. The island of course is incredible.

This is not a 'full resort' experience, but it fully fit the bill for my wife and I. The room was exquisite, as was the staff and tghe grounds. I never thought we'd find a use for a pool right next to the incredible lagoon of Aitutaki, but we did enjoy it.

We stayed at the #3 Villa, which is awesome and right on the beach, only a few yards from the water. The other couples staying at the Etu Moana were not overly intrusive, but friendly.

The rooms now have DVD players; they added them while we were there! Nothing was missing or lacking. The bathrooms have great amenities, and there is an outside shower with almost total privacy; we used it often to rinse off after a hard afternoon's snorkeling.

This is by no means a 'cheap' vacation, and you will have to scooter off to find food (the breakfast by the poolside is wonderfully attended, with coffee presses and buffet-style fruits and breads; we felt that protien was lacking, and found ways to supplement). Spend your time in the room, motoring around the island and in the lagoon on kayaks or snorkeling. You cannot find a more incredible vacation!

And the stars! And the sunsets (well, we mostly had cloudy sunsets, but there were a coupleof good ones). And the fish jumping in rippling schools. Really unbeatable. There were never more than two or three people on the beach at any one time.

We stayed at the Etu Moana for 4 nights in late March. If you're looking for a place to kick back for days or weeks this is the place and the island! Etu Moana is exceptional in many ways. The quality and service are first rate and Jim and Jo-Anne guarantee your experience at Etu Moana and the people and places they recommend are first class.

I'm smiling as I put this report together, both for the wonderful memories that my partner and I came away with from the Etu Moana, but, also from the fact that the owners - Jim and Jo-Anne Brittjin - know that we used the recommendations and experiences provided through this forum - and others - and that we'd be providing our own review. No worries, you two! Your place...your staff AND the both of you are fantastic!

We had one of the two absolute beachfront units (villa #3) for 6 nights. From the moment that the enchanting "Lovey" picked us up at the Aitutaki airport, we began to see why previous reviews had been so positive. Upon arrival at the Etu Moana, we were given cool, delicious coconut drinks...in the coconuts! We met Jo-Anne and Jim, personally, and were given a tour of our villa and the facilities available for our use. Aside from the fact that we were right on the beach which, in itself, was like out of a south seas storybook, the accommodations are of 5 star quality. Every aspect is geared toward personal comfort, privacy and ambience. Landscaped into the magical natural setting, they have built a heart-shaped pool and "honesty" bar, where guests can either enjoy a drink, poolside, or re-stock their own unit. This is all at the same price that you'd pay if you were to purchase at any of the local outlets. Additionally, a lovely complimentary breakfast is provided, here, every morning until 10:00 AM. Fresh local fruits, cereal, tea/coffee, fresh breads and juices.

What truly sets the Etu Moana apart from so many other places is the level of personal attention and service provided by both the staff and the owners. All one need do is mention what you're interested in doing and they will do everything they can to ensure that your needs are met. A case in point: the first day that we were there, we wanted to go kayaking - but at another part of the island. In spite of the fact that it was one of Jim and Jo-Anne's rare "off" days, and they had plans of their own, they loaded up a pair of kayaks for us and drove them to the location we wished! And they did this enthusiastically! At least, they seemed too...lol! No matter...we were so grateful...and still are. Their entire staff all demonstrated the same incredible attitude. They made reservations at local restaurants, booked our scooter rentals and provided us with information and insight on anything having to do with Aitutaki.

This is not a "backpacker" type resort. It is definately "high-end"...and deservedly so. While there, we did prepare several of our own meals. The kitchens are very well appointed with new appliances, minus a microwave. As in other Cook Island accommodations, there is no coffee maker, but there is a coffee press, instead. As a coffee afficianado, I can state that these are just as good. Fully air-conditioned. This was SO important, as we were there during the height of the rainy season, when temperature and humidity are at the heighest. The entertainment unit boasts a large flat-screen tv and new stereo. The satellite signal only provides you with 2 stations, however (CNN & Turner Classics), which should indicate just how far away from everything you really are...isn't this what you want? In addition to those, every evening at 8:00, Jo-Anne will put on a movie, which you can tune into, on a 3rd channel. One particularly stormy afternoon, she let my lovely partner make a romantic choice! For those that are interested, you can bring favourite dvd's, from North America, and they can be played, as their equipment is set up for them. That really should be a "Plan B...or C"!

While we were there, we enjoyed a couple of impromptu poolside get-togethers with other guests and, of special note, one that was put on by Jo-Anne and Jim. They arranged for lessons in island dancing...both men & women...and the proper way to wear a sarong (pareols) and how to make those floral garlands...I forget what they're called! Delicious rum and coconut drinks - on the house - too! Later, we went to dinner at a wonderful cafe, next door.

I don't know what else to say. From start to finish, this place was the best. It gets top marks and we would definately return...in a flash! But, nothing "flashes" on Aitutaki. You'll have to see for yourselves.

Hope to see you both again!

Mark & Janice
