We loved our second visit to Aitutaki and our stay at Samade. The location is fantastic and though it doesn't have the luxury of the bigger resorts we prefered Samade's relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Thomas and Liz are in the process of updating Samade and we are looking forward to seeing the final result on their website but we were more then happy with our large room, the lovely gardens and the great access to the beach. Great idea to have the clothes racks on the decks for us to use - I had bought some line and pegs with me but didn't need them. The kitchen in our room had everything we needed for food we bought for our lunches. Thomas, Liz, Lexie and all the staff made us feel very welcome and we would recommend Samade to anyway going to Aitutaki. We went fishing with Black Pearl Charters and Thomas arranged for our tuna to be cooked for us. It was fantastic and so were all the meals we had at Samade.

The service was wonderful in our stay at Samade. After exploring the island we discovered we were located in one of the best beaches of all. The price was excellent, the breakfast quite complete.
I only would change the decoration of the rooms and would plant some grass on the ground between the villas, to create a better island ambient. The decoration is nothing special but the service is wonderful.

Quite satisfied, nothing bad to say about them.

We’re just back from four lovely days at Samade on the Beach. We chose it partly because it looked like the kind of mid-range place that would suit us. We were right. It hits the sweet spot mid-way between uncomfortably basic, and cookie-cutter big corporation luxury resort. The owners Thomas and Liz are on site, giving personal service from the minute you step off your flight. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

The position is second to none – right on the breathtaking Ootu Beach, Aitutaki Lagoon. We drank our morning cuppas in front of the restaurant with feet in the sand watching fish swimming around. There’s no need to be put off by the fact that it’s close to the airport. There are only 3-4 flights a day, and none late at night. They’re not exactly jumbos either, so the noise isn’t an issue. There are a couple of other cafes close by, and you can walk to a car/motorbike hire place if you decide to get yourself some transport. Guests get complementary use of sun-lounges, kayaks and paddleboards to make the most of the lagoon.

Rooms are spacious and airy, with aircon and celling fans to keep you cool. There’s a little kitchenette space with fridge, sink, crockery and cutlery, where you make a cuppa. The bed was comfy. Importantly, there are flywire screens on all the windows, a mosquito net over the bed, and mossie coils supplied albeit with no matches to light them. We requested some and were given the loan of a lighter.

Samade includes a cold buffet breakfast as part of the room package – toast, yummy homemade pancakes, fruit, cereal etc - but you can purchase a cooked breakfast if you wish. Dinner was great too. The island has some difficulties getting supplies so occasionally a few dishes were off the a la carte menu due to running out of certain ingredients, but we didn’t find it a major issue.

We can only hope that Aitutaki remains as unspoilt as it is today – we hope to get back there some day, and will certainly be happy to stay at Samade again.

Room Tip: Twelve bungalows, surrounded by gardens. Probably all comparable and all very close to the beach.

We have just arrived back in NZ today after spending 4 nights at the Samade and would recommend it to anyone. Not only were we located in the most beautiful part of the world, we were welcomed and treated like family by everyone at the Samade. Liz and Thomas both took the time to spend time with everyone and it made it all the more special. The rooms had everything we needed, the bed was great and the air con made a big difference on the hot nights. The food was lovely, especially the fish burger! We also loved the Bishops Lagoon Cruise and the Island Night. The only thing I would have asked for was some basic items for sale, such as sun block and to have snorkeling gear and reef shoes available for guests to use.
Thanks so much to you both and your wonderful team for sharing your paradise with us and for your awesome hospitality. Metin and Rachel

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are more private and quiet

Kia Orana Rachel & Metin,
The Samade team is delighted that you have arrived home safely and that your Aitutaki experience was a positive and memorable one. Thank you for your kind words about our services and facilities, and for the headsup about sun lotion, snorkelling gear and reef shoes. We are working on this as part of the properties make over and we shall certainly address these items as we progress.
We are all comitted to improving all aspects of our operation to compliment our most stunning location.
We hope to see you both on Aitutaki again in the near future, in the meantime and until then, all the very best to you both.

We had a bungalow that was about 20 feet from the lagoon. It was beautiful and relaxing. The bungalow was air conditioned and had small kitchenette to make tea coffee etc. sitting on the verandah very relaxing. Cocktails and dinner in the open air bar on the edge of the lagoon was what a perfect island holiday should be.
There were kayaks that could be used but swimming in the crystal clear lagoon was really enough for me

We came to Samade for dinner one night and enjoyed a show of a local dance school that was awesome. Interaction with guests was great, I had a lot of fun watching my boyfriend (really not the dancer type) dancing by command, but unfortunately, meanwhile my fish on the plate became cold. I guess it would have been delicious when warm, but only fairly good as it was.
After dinner we stayed at the bar for some drinks. Staff was very nice and cheerful. We met some people and had a good time, so they let us sit on the outside table even after they closed. My misfortune was there were naaaaaasty sandflies, oh how did I suffer the days after... but anyway, the night at Samade was great!

I just realized that I never wrote a review after staying here on our honeymoon in November 2012! (The TA review page won't let me enter this date which is why it says Nov 2013). Better late than never so here it is:
We LOVED Samade on the Beach! The location on the lagoon is amazing, the staff were wonderful (thanks Alone, Chanel and Ned!), the Island Night was so much fun and our little cabin was simple but clean and lovely. Come here expecting simplicity and relaxation. This isn't a resort and doesn't have anything overly fancy so if you're looking for luxury you should stay on the other side of the island. There are a lot of chickens roaming the island so I would pack ear plugs if you don't want to be woken up by them in the morning. We stayed for 8 nights and they were the best 8 nights of our entire honeymoon. We spent the most of our days laying on our beach chairs, using the stand up paddle boards, and swimming in the warm water. The island is really fun and easy to explore by scooter and there's a rental place just up the road. Make sure you experience an Island night and which was the most fun and authentic one we saw on all of the Cooks! Aitutaki is Heaven on Earth and everyone should visit at least once.

Room Tip: The cabins are all set beck from the beach and are in two rows facing in towards a garden.
