Akaiami is one of the 22 motu (islets) within Aitutaki Lagoon and one of the three visited by most of the lagoon cruises. Like all of Aitutaki, Akaiami is gorgeous with white sand beaches and turquoise waters. Akaiami is more developed than the other two motu visited on the lagoon tours with a beach club and at least two lodgings, Gina's Akaiami Beach Lodge and Akaiami Paradise. Besides the beauty, Akaiami is most notable for the ruins of the old TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited, later becoming Air New Zealand) sea plane dock where they stopped flying the Coral Route between Fiji and Tahiti.
