“great way to see big fish and a wreck without getting wet”
Review of Raro Reef Sub

Raro Reef Sub
Reviewed 1 September 2013

The sub is a basically a boat which has viewing windows in the hull. Its very well done and you have a brilliant underwater view.

There is a running live commentary on the fish on display. You see some really big ones. We were lucky and the visibility was fantastic.

You also swing by the wreck. Again great view. The only way to get closer is to do a dive...

Price was ok for $65

Yes the big fish are awesome! They are Giant Trevallies, and 1 of them is almost 50kg!

It's a great thing to do, the guide had all knowledge of the area, but I felt that it was a little expensive for what we got ! Maybe he should look at suppling his clients with bottle water as very hot in the sub. Most of the tours do this.

A trip on a real Semi-Submarine! The only one in the Cook Islands. The views are amazing and you can see from the surface to the bottom of the sea. The boat is sheltered from the sun, and much cooler on the top deck. Bring a bottle of water and a camera with you.

This trip was different from all the other lagoon trips as we got outside the reef and in front of some seriously big fish! The giant Trevallies were awesome and we got a glance at a turtle as it raced away. Seeing the ship wreck was really interesting and it was great to view the mountains of Raro from the water. The boat is in great condition and the commentary was informative and interesting. Our kids loved being able to come and go from the submarine viewing windows below and the upper deck. We were a little unlucky as 2 days after we went they saw a big humpback whale breaching and could hear it singing underwater which would have been amazing!

Booked my niece and her partner into this activity. They had an awesome time. Booking was easy, the whale and wildlife centre was great as well. One of the best things they did.

We took a trip on the reef sub that was recommended to us at the Whale & Wildlife Center. What a fun, informative, and beautiful cruise! We saw enormous fish, a sea turtle, puffer fish, corals, the Maitai shipwreck, and great views of the island. Sheryl & Hugh are great hosts, with small enough groups that you really get to talk with them. They are knowledgeable about the environment and able to educate passengers about the health of the reefs.

And much of what you saw on the Reef Sub you had just learnt about at the Whale and Wildlife Centre, which I hope enriched the experience.
