The view from up there is worth the hike. The trail is well marked and maintained. But you will need good shoes if the trail is not bone dry.

Take insect repellent. Loads of it. Also wear old clothes as the dirt/clay stains your clothes. There are parts where you semi-abseil using rope. We went without a guide and managed fine, but there was one spot in particular where we went the wrong way for a while and had to double back. Awesome feeling of achievement and there is a waterhole at the end. You go from one side of the island to the other. We got a ride up to the start (the road is quite long). We went January 2012.

A challenging walk across the island. I recommend doing this walk on a guided tour with Pa. His knowledge of the island & the healing properties of plants is amazing. He has wonderful stories to share & a deep spirituality. Also, it is easy to take a wrong turn & Pa had to guide a few people onto the correct path, even though they weren't part of his tour.

Went went with friends a great walk through natural bush, great view, was difficult inn places and requires moderate level of fitness. Even though challenging in places was well worth it.

Very hard trek but I am 55 and managed it. It's all climbing using roots of trees. Great feeling when you make it to the needle. Lovely views from the top.
