As I decided to extend my trip, we booked accommodation at a place in Muri. Kura’s Kabanas, which was just adorable! A peaceful, relaxing spot right on the water. It didn’t look great for swimming as the water didn’t even come up to my knees, but it still resembled the beautiful ocean. The owners were adorable, even letting us have some limes from their tree and teaching me how to make lemon grass tea (Which was AMAZING!!!!) We stayed in the family villa room which was simple, large and tidy.
We spent our days up the road at The Pacific Resort which has a public beach (also shallow but great for swimming). Even better they still served you cocktails on the beach even if you weren’t staying in-house. PERFECT my island holiday has started resembling one dreams are made of.
Highly recommend staying around Muri, it is a great little town with plenty of choice for places to dine. The food IS expensive, but if you head up to the markets, you can buy beautiful and well priced feeds from the stalls (Raw Fish Salad= IKA MATA) yum! I do recommend having some transport as well, we dropped a small fortune with Taxi’s, this also gives you the freedom to explore on your own time. Cars can be cheaper if split between a few friends, but scooters are more fun. Definitely more $$ efficient as they use next to no gas.
If you find that you have spent a bit too much time in the sun (let’s be honest it happens to the best of us!) go and get a Sun Soother rap from The Muri Beach Front Hotel. For $40, money well spent! It is easy to lose track of how long you have been in the sun, or when the last time you put sunscreen, especially in 30+ degree heat. I got burnt pretty badly one day, but went and did this, they smother you in ice cold aloe and rap you up in a cold wet cloth. You lie there while they give you a head massage. And it totally works to take the heat and the redness out of sunburn.
All in all, stay cheap and close to a resort that has a public beach with a bar on it. Same resort experience, without having to pay the redic sums of money to sleep there. WE found that if you spend enough at their restaurant and bar, they can be a little more flexible with you using their facilities.
