Kakera Villa Apartments

This is a lovely place, right by a protected beach, each apartment has it's own pool, very refreshing after the heat of the day. Lovely staff, over all a lovely stay.
I recommend the snorkelling at the far end of muri beach

We have just enjoyed the most relaxing 8 days in the Cook Islands.
From the moment we arrived at Apartments Karkera, we were made to feel very welcome by the most lovliest hosts Melinda & Andrew and their family.

The location is great, not too far from the main town and close to the gorgeous Muri lagoon, where you will not find a more beautful spot to cool off.
There are small supply shops within walking distance, but a car or bike is recommended to get around and explore this wonderful part of the world. The cost for this is well priced and Melinda & Andrew were more than happy to organise it for us.

The apartment was so clean, spacious & comfortable, we felt like we were at home, if there was any thing that we needed though, it was attentively bought to our apartment.
Lots of little touches were waiting for us when we arrived & Melinda's pancakes the next morning were delightful.
The apartment is stocked with every kind of magazine ever published, plenty of DVD's & an assortment of board games, which we enjoyed playing together as a family at night.
It was great also to be able to wash & dry clothes when you are away for more than a few days.
The beach at Kakera is great for fossicking, a great deck to take the bean bags out, read a book & watch the waves roll in. Great for surfing, just a little way up is a sandy area for a paddle. There are reef shoes & snorkling gear avaliable to be able explore.

We loved living like the locals, finding places to eat & shopping for local produce. The bananas & paw paws are like nothing you will taste in Australia.

We found many great places to eat, the kids favourite was the "Flying Boat" which had the best fish & chips, beautifully battered local fish & golden chips.
The supermarkets were well stocked, the imported processed foods were alot more expensive than home, but is what you would expect on an island. We bought a suitcase full of munchies such as lollies, chocolate & biscuits with us, which we were pleased we did.
My husband & son enjoyed going to the local rugby matches in the afternoons late in the week, a bit of fun mixing with the local families.

There are a few adventures that you can do on the island, but we were happy just to completely relax and enjoy the sun & the sand. I have never had such a relaxing time on hoildays.
If you are like us and are a bit over sharing resort facilites with loads of others, Apartments Kakera are for you. We found that we explored more of Rarotonga by staying there, as you find when in a resort you tend not to venture out as much.

You leave Kakera feeling refreshed and relaxed, knowing that you now have special memories & friends from the Cook Islands.

We stayed at Apartment Karanga [family sized apartment] as their couple sized one was booked out. With two huge bedrooms and a spacious lounge/ dining/kitchen, there was more than enough space for the two of us. Would be the perfect place for a family or group of friends to stay. Clean, modern and spacious. Shallow plunge pool is very shallow, only good for toe dipping. Our hosts Andrew and Melinda are very friendly and helpful without being intrusive.

As the place already has glowing reviews from everyone, I'd just like to touch on the two areas that were not perfect.

There is a school right next door so if you are the type to sleep in really late, that might bother you in the mornings.

And the family apartment does not have an air con option, will not be a problem if you don't mind throwing the doors/windows open for the wonderful sea breeze but as my partner is a mosquito magnet, wasn't the best scenario for us. So we had windows shut, plug in repellants upstairs, downstairs and emptied a can of Raid during our stay. Walls upstairs are not full height so you can't shut off the room completely. Also used the mosquito netting around the bed at night.

Definitely highly recommended as a great value for money modern facility and fantastic friendly service. Wouldn't hesitate to point family and friends in their direction. Personally thou for a return visit to Raro in future, we will get a villa in a resort- more our style.

Apartments Kakera was the perfect place for us to stay while we got married in Rarotonga.
Clean, beautiful architecture. Absolutely loved jumping into the plunge pool at the end of the day.
You could not want for anything, Melinda and Andrew are more than happy to help to organise activities etc. They are a wonderful couple who have fantastic apartments i would be proud to reccommend to anyone.

Melinda was waiting for us at the Airport when me, my (now husband) - both from New Zealand and our two friends from Istanbul, Turkey, arrived. She drove us to Aparments Kakera and gave us a good commentary on Rarotonga on the way there.

We arrived at Apartments Kakera which is stunning. Frangipani, hibiscus and Bougainvillea line the entranceway, and the four of us stayed in the Karanga family apartment. Another couple friend of ours stayed in Ra. Both were gorgeous.

Karanga is a very large luxurious apartment that gives you a stunning home away from home. It was large enough for the four of us to have time out. The downstairs area is open plan with a modern kitchen, dining and lounge area, the TV is large flat screen and there is a very good stereo/sound system with ipod connections etc. The downstairs bathroom is huge with twin sinks, bath and twin cabinets.
The two bedrooms upstairs are lovely. The main bedroom has a large ensuite bathroom, balcony with loungers overlooking the garden and out to see. It also has a lounge and a very large wardrobe. There is also a large walk-in wardrobe adjoining the two upstairs rooms. The second bedroom has twin beds that join to a king size and it has a romeo juliet type window overlooking the garden and out to sea. There are mosquito nets above the beds.

The courtyard is lined with coconut palms and flowering plants, and the plunge pool is great for bathing your feet while reading a book (or you can sit in it) to keep cool. The courtyard flows from the downstairs lounge area so is great for entertaining. We had our wedding reception there and also had people around for New Years Eve which Melinda and Andrew catered for us.

There is a communal laundry.

We chose apartments Kakera as it offered a 'one-stop' for our wedding. Not only luxury accommodation but Karanga is large enough to seat 30 guests and the wedding meal was one of the best we had in Rarotonga. The table settings were gorgeous, especially the flower arrangements (see photo)
Melinda and Andrew were excellent hosts, they are friendly and down-to-earth and very professional and experienced with weddings.

Melinda did the hair and make-up which was beautiful, we were told by the locals that she is the best on the island. Their favourite photographer Hinoi was fun and the photos are amazing. We couldn't have dreamed our wedding better, it just went so smoothly and all of our guests commented how good the meal and setting was. I was able to relax and Melinda pretty much advised and organised everything to perfection.

Luckily stumbled across the Kakera website whilst randomly gogling for our wedding venue in Raro. The website is fresh, modern and funky and it gives you a small indication of the stunning apartments in real life. Melinda and Andrew the hosts are amazing and I cannot praise them enough for their professionalism and congratulate them creating a true paradise. I'm trying not to gush and appear OTT but it’s not possible when being asked to describe these guys style! There is an fascinating clash of family, genuine chilled out style with 5 star service. The rooms are stunning and immaculate at all times, with a lovely touch of fresh flowers on linen and pancakes for breakfast. Pristine, airing and tres chic, with the gorgeous family dog and cat casually wondering in and out! My now husband I am stayed in Pepe apartment with a totally private plunge pool and garden area we felt like we could get away from it all but be involved with the large group of family we had staying in the other apartments. We had 38 guests at our wedding, held the ceremony on the beach out back and reception in the main apartment. There was so much room and everything ran like clockwork, it was unbelievably laid back and Melinda was so in control she put everyone at ease. She organized the flowers, hair makeup (which she did herself!) perfectly!, Look at her Pacific Bride website (she is undoubtedly the best in the island) filming of a dvd, food, bar, fire dancers, deco, celebrant and everything else! A beautiful marquee was set up outside where the food was prepared and our families are still raving about it, and some of our rellies are very hard to please! Exquisite salads, meats and desserts, (I'd recommend the snowballs made by their daughter - chewy mix of baileys and biscuit, out of this world ) all the while her husband Andrew serving behind the bar inside – I actually don’t know how they did it! Was expecting a team of staff! Our day was Perfect! Cheesy to say I know but it just couldn’t have been better! They even changed the date within a couple of days notice to avoid the rain and ensure we had the best forecast! Can you imagine that on the mainland! The Kakera apartments and the family that built and run them are exceptional and I’d recommend this place to anyone who’d listen, we looked extensively all over Raro for our dream wedding venue and no others came close to the vibe of the Kakera – it’s in a league of their own. I think it’s a hidden treasure so book in fast.

We stayed at Apartments Kakera for 8 nights for our wedding. Right from the minute we were picked up from from the airport we new we were in for a treat - the hosts, Andrew and Melinda are friendly and welcoming and we knew they were the perfect people to host our wedding reception. We planned everything via email and when we turned up to discuss the plans it was 100% better than i could have ever imagined. Melinda had the menu and reception set up all planned and I had nothing to worry about - it was all in good hands. The apartments are spacious, modern and well set up with all the luxuries of home - there wasnt anything that we needed that couldnt be provided and Andrew and Melinda were only a phone call away and went out of their way to make our time in Rarotonga perfect. When the day arrived for the wedding it started to rain and I was getting worried. Our wedding planner (Andrea of Wedded Bliss - excellent wedding planner and so organised - we didnt have to do a thing apart from decide on the cake flavour and the flowers we wanted - everything was done for us) called to let us know the ceremony may have to be held at the apartment - Melinda had no problems with this and went our of her way to arrange decorations and plan for the ceremony to be held there. Melinda did my make up and I looked truly amazing and it lasted all day and well into the night. Luckily the rain cleared just in time for the ceremony and we got the beach wedding we always wanted. Half an hour after the ceremony it rained again and we got some amazing photo's with our photographer (Hinoi) and he even offered to reshoot with blue skys a coulpe of days later so we ended up with a photoshoot with the stormy clouds which will be amazing and one with blue skys and clear water - he did a wonderful job and is an amazing photographer who makes you feel relaxed. The reception was all set up with table settings and flowers when we arrived and the food was amazing (all our guests were comenting that it was better than the restaurants on the island and we agree). After the wedding we had time to relax and apartments Kakera was perfect for this - a short drive away is Muri with amazing beaches and excellent snorkelling. The guys ended up going snorkelling on the beach outside the apartments and really enjoyed it as they are experienced divers and wanted some adventure. The private pool and garden area is a great place to relax - it felt like we were the only people there as the apartment was really private from the other apartments. We highly recommend Apartments Kakera and will definatley be back in the not too distant future. We also recommend Andrea of Wedded Bliss for her excellent wedding planning skills - from the first email to the last she was there for us and made the experience of an island wedding truly amazing and everything we wanted. Hinoi is an amazing photographer and went to extra lengths for us to organize a second photo shoot (you wouldnt get that kind of service in New Zealand!). John Kenning (the celebrant) is a wonderful man who went out of his way on the day to change our marriage licence twice (one to the apartment and then back to the beach when the rain cleared) he made our ceremony magical and has a great sence of humour. We originally looked at staying at a resort for the wedding and having them plan it but we are so glad we chose Apartments Kakera and Wedded Bliss as there was not one minute where we felt like we were being pushed through so the next wedding could take place. I cant recommend them enough - I have no doubts that anyone wanting to have a magical wedding in Rarotonga would find them to be the best.
