“Worth a visit”

Big Delta State Historical Park
Attraction details

Stopped here to take a look around and ended up having lunch after another person raved over how good the soup was. I can't remember what kind it was but it was very good. Perfect for lunch. I also got a good deal on a coat.

Just down the road from me, so we visit now and again when we have guests in town. Nice luncheon, gift shop, and garden...on the river. Little paths take you through old historic buildings with historic notations.

This Historical Park is located a few miles north of Delta Junction on the Richardson Highway. We stopped by intending to eat in the cafe here, but they had closed at 5:00 pm, so no luck. However, it was enjoyable wandering around and looking at all the old buildings.

The inside of the original roadhouse is now set up as a museum, and the displays are well presented and interesting. There are a number of outbuildings, including a sod-roofed homestead cabin, barns and the Telegraph Building which is the oldest building in the Delta area.

The whole area is pleasant with lawns, big trees and the river. There is a basic RV park there as well. There are no hookups, but the charge is only $5 per night.

I had just added this attraction to TripAdvisor and am glad to see there is already one other review for it :-)

This park is definitely worth the stop if you are in the Delta Junction area. Rika's Roadhouse is beautifully restored, along with the surrounding buildings. There are pamphlets available at the entrance that explain what each building is and the history of the location. There is a gift shop and restaurant available at the park as well. Nice view of the river and the pipeline bridge that spans the river.
