We chose Hotel Alyeska as we felt it would be a nice treat. However, it didn't live up to our expectations and the reviews we had read.

Don't get me wrong, it is in a lovely setting and if you're the outdoorsy type, then you'll love all the walks and hiking. We did enjoy that. We felt that Hotel Alyeska was a bit "resorty" and generic - nothing special. We also thought it was overpriced for what it was and that whole place was just about money making which put us off.

Yes, it has nice facilities like the pool but to be honest, most of the time the pool is filled with unsupervised kids doing dive bombs. Our room was lovely and the bed was comfortable but the fridge was placed right next to the bed and along with the bathroom fan that never turned off made a lot of noise during the night. For most of the days we were there, we were out of the room from about 10am - 4pm and when we returned house keeping had not turned up for all of the days bar one day. We found this odd considering that every time we walked down our corridor there were at least 5 housekeeping trolleys.

The staff were okay - most of them were students who were there for the summer to earn money and they either seemed to not care too much or not know what they were doing. Maybe it was just the time of year we went.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from staying here but I would advise you to make sure that this is what you really want as it was not what we were expecting at all, especially for the price we paid.

Room Tip: Choose one at the end of the corridor rather than the middle. This is a BIG place with a high turnover so you'll get more peace and quiet at the end.

We stayed 4 nights in June while we explored the area and attended a wedding. We had requested a roll away because my two kids did not want to share a double sized bed. The room was smaller with a lot of furniture and we were going to need to take out some chairs to fit it. The Bell Man was fantastic and called down and requested an accessible room for us. Way more space for us to spend 4 nights in. The rollaway fit great without having to remove any furniture. It was great that he recommended it. The room and hotel was very beautiful and clean. We walked around the grounds and took the tram up to see the views from there. We only had breakfast at the hotel but liked both the buffet and the ala cart. There was also a coffee shop and several stores. Both the front desk and concierge were friendly and quick to help.

All the staff were excellent, rooms excellent, variety of restaurants very good. Must try the mountain top Seven Glaciers Restaurant was superb, though the waitress lacked authenticity the food was great. Would love to go there in Winter skiing.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the entrance but was fine

Stayed at this hotel after a cruise for a night. Wife loved the gardens around the hotel. Almost like a botanical garden. Free tram tickets to the top of the mountain with unbelievable views. Room is nice and comparable to other 4 stars. Bathroom is a bit nicer. However, couldn't get the room to cool down at night. AC probably is not the biggest thing that gets used here :-). Food is just ok and is expensive.

Extra points to the staff. They mailed home a charger I forgot in the room.

Great hotel, beautiful surroundings and wonderful associates at ever turn. All the restaurants that I tried had both superior food and service. I would recommend The Alyeska to families, business travelers, families and seniors.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front side all had incredible views.
