“The Place to Stay”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

Excellent check in, friendly and helpful staff and concierge and nicely appointed rooms set the Hotel Alyeska from all others. In fact, I'd stay here over any place in Anchorage if the drive was shorter. Pay up for a better room if you are spending 2-3 days as the extra space is nice to have

We really enjoyed our four summer days here. We saw a huge moose on the back lawn the first day we arrived. Nice hiking trails around. The tram is fun, too. The salt water hot tub is great! And (speaking as a picky NYC yogi) the yoga class was excellent -- just wish they were offered every day and maybe included in the rate. Extra stars for free, strong wifi. The gift shops are pretty tempting but be warned, they have different hours on different days, so if there's something you really want, don't leave it till the morning you leave. A great base for exploring points further south / east -- it's very close to Whittier, if you're doing a glacier / fjord cruise, for instance. Also just a nice place to kick back for a day if it's rainy etc.

This is a beautiful hotel in the quaint area of Girdwood. We stayed with a Holland America land/cruise and enjoyed the calmness of the area, the spacious room, the great service and amenities. There is a well rated property restaurant at the top of the tram ride. Be sure and make a reservation before you arrive as they were all booked when we got here.

We loved feeling pampered at this clean and well run hotel.

Room Tip: Every room has a great view.

An Alaskan Ski resort in a quaint small town. Everything luxurious and high quality. Wonderful salt water swimming pool and hot tub. Summertime tram ride to top of the mountain/ ski slope affords good opportunity to see wildlife. Unbelievable artisan pizzas served for a reasonably priced meal.

By any standards, this is a lovely resort. And by Alaskan wilderness standards, it's positively grand. We were there not for skiing, but as part of our summer vacation and it was truly a highlight of our trip. The lobby is rustic-elegant and the rooms are beautiful, with plush beds, silent ventilation, windows that open onto the spectacular view and well-stocked bathrooms. Dinner at Seven Glaciers was a culinary treat. (And no, it does not cost $50 to ride the tram, even if you book through the concierge). The little town of Girdwood does not have much in the way of shopping or entertainment, but everything you need is at the resort anyway.

Room Tip: I can't think that there are any bad rooms.

Restaurant choices nearby are very limited and the Seven Glaciers hotel restaurant on top of the mountain is by far the best choice, with reasonable prices for Alaska - where most everything is more costly than in the lower 48. One quirky little thing is the front desk staff tried to discourage me from going to this restaurant on two different evenings, claiming there were no dinner openings. I called the restaurant directly and found plenty of available tables both times. If you call the restaurant to reserve directly, the tram ride up the mountain is free. If you book through the hotel front desk, it costs $50. per person to ride the tram.

Backw,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel/restaurant. The Front Desk and the Seven Glaciers restaurant use the same system to book reservations. I am delighted they had an opening when you called as bookings are made and canceled throughout the day.

If you have a reservation there is no charge for tram tickets. If there are no spots available to reserve, you can always pay to take the tram and dine at the bar (space available - first come, first served). Tram tickets are $25 per adult.

This is a really beautiful property with wonderful customer service. Definitely the nicest place in Alaska! It is at the base of a ski slope so the grounds are really beautiful and there is a tram that will take you to the top of the mountain to see the amazing views.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that faces the mountain.
